I'm downloading now. TBH I'm really not into super heroes but I might aswell give it a try since its free and I'm bored of the other mmo's I use to play.

I'm guessing nature would be a bad choice, too? Is staff a fast melee, btw? I just want to be a super speed fast-melee class with some type of elemental powers.
Nature is healing as well. Fast melee class is probably MA/One-handed - both Ice/Fire are tanks though. Gadget/Mind are controllers. Nature/Sorcery are Healers.

I bought the game at launch and did a review for it. It's a good thing it became f2p, it's not the type of game that can afford another business model.

It's a very fun game, especially if you're into DC lore like I am. It's held back by a ridiculously level cap and a lack of direction (pre-cap, it's solo-oriented, post-cap it's waaaay too team-oriented). It is the kind of MMO that caters to raid-players, though, so if you're into that it's great.

Recommendation: if you're playing on the PC, plug in a gamepad. The controls flow much better.

I would love to play it, but it has only been able to connect to the login servers once for me, and twice for my friend, and even so it kicked us out before we could even finish making our first character.

Ok, now at like the fifteen hour point in them still not getting their bloody servers working, I'm going to say that is very embarrassing to be beat on server repairs by Nexon.

Downloaded just over 17GB from Steam. Logged into SOE, have to download 14GB? Surely some mistake?

The game is a joke, the premium item shop smacks of the EVE monocle system, the movement is laughable, the normal characters look mutated, there's next to no customizations, the combat is clunky and blocky, and the game overall feels unpolished and crappy. In other words, it was a PC port of an MMO. To top it off, I was being kicked off the servers every half hour for patching, and even when I did get to play, the bugs were horrendus. To top it off, free players can't receive mail, which is the majority of the quest rewards method of choice, and the money cap is so low that free level 30s can't even repair gear. The only fun part of DCUO is the uninstall feature.

I only really wanted to mess around with the customisation feature but apparently 27GB later I still can't do anything.

Ho hum. Balls to it, I shall reclaim that space and ponder that Skyrim thing.

Are you sure about that? Because I just finished the prologue and I received my mail with the reward attached just fine.

Also, the combat is very fluid once you get to unlock powers and combos.

Took me about two and half days, kinda wished I would have waited for the F2P version to be available on Steam before I started the download, but whatever. Going to try it out in just a few minutes...

EDIT: Never mind looks like servers are "down for maintenance", yay!

Been trying it out today.

It started off well. Seemed fun enough and was having a pretty good time, then fun struck.

According to DCUO home page the EU PC server is medium pop but i've been stuck on every single loading screen. Had to shut the game down and boot it back up again get playing, switch zone and get stuck on loading screen again (I waited 10 minutes each time before turning it off)....

So I gave it an hour and now I can't even get on the character screen.

All I can say is i'm bloody grateful I didn't pay for it and have no plans to. SoE don't have the best track record with me anyway and it seems they still haven't surprised me.

I tried City of Heroes, but the graphics just got too muddy in many places for me to make out what was going on, that's always a turn off for me.
Did you get to Frostfire's lair?

And in CoX, simply fighting going to the nightclub can be awesome.
DCUO, even being in the Watchtower feels dull.

It tries so hard, but in the end, CoX is just more fun, better costumes and easier to forge your own way.

DCUO just makes you feel like "nearly-Batman", in his second hand costume, who isn't as good. Until it makes you Batman, and then he gets butchered by the shlubs playing Bane or Joker.

It just feels like you're trying to catch up to a cardboard cut-out.

Positron, Ghost Widow or Ms Liberty all have way more personality than any of the DC 'verse.
hell Statesman, Recluse or Tyrant to.

but yeah, all that is why I've waited this long to play DCU, 'why do i need to mentor under some one, who at no point I'll ever be better then?' not to mention the little bit i have been on is very shallow, i kinda expected more >.> ...

i also expected it to WORK, but SoE, >.> so yeah ...
