Just played it on PC for about 2 hours.

The core game in itself is pretty good. The combat system works great; it's pretty fun to break their arms and stab them in the face, especially with the great visual effects and good zombie AI. There's tons of cool places to explore, and you can tell they put a ton of effort into making the environment look good. They also did a great job of painting a zombie-apocalypse scenario, with people all huddled up in confinement hoping they don't get eaten by zombies. Despite having a whimsical colorful style, it's actually a pretty serious game, as opposed to more arcade-y games like Dead Rising and Left4Dead. So far, I'm enjoying this game.

Problem is that it's absolutely infested with bugs. Pressing 'y' activates no-clip mode, the set-your-gamma screen is messed up, the mouse sensitivity is a battle between in-game and menu sensitivity (setting it to a playable sensitivity slows the menu cursor to a crawl, and vice versa), the game has randomly crashed on me 3 times so far (in 2 hours!), and overall it feels like the game's programming is held together by paperclips and bubblegum.

Also, the menu navigation is really clunky and counter-intuitive. It's partly because of the extremely slow cursor movement, but the way things are organized just doesn't flow very well.

Basically, Dead Island is one of those good-but-infested-with-bugs games (for PC at least). They're releasing a patch very soon though, so hopefully it fixes these glaring bugs.

It looks very interesting and my Steam friend says it's really good, I think I will be picking it up. After +170 hours of Left 4 Dead 2 I'd like a different flavor of Zombie apocalypse.

Whoah there buddy. I think you mean "On Bethesda's engine broken". Don't blame a great team for having to deal with a notably bug friendly engine.
Alpha Protocol. Not on Bethesda's engine.

Good to know that the base game is solid, once they get all the hiccups sorted out I'm sure it'll be stellar.

Got it the moment it became preorderable on steam.

Preloaded the moment I could.

Have watched every single little thing related to it on youtube and all other sites.

Salivating over it.

Love zombies.

Have been looking up free online zombie games to work my zombie fever up.

I will fucking murder myself if it sucks balls.

.....Yup, I think I want to play it.

I heard its broken so wait a month or two before getting it
How broken? Are we talking "people who nit pick like fuck" broken or Made by Obsidian broken?

OT: I will eventually but only when it's on special and if I have upgraded by then.

I accept your criticism and redact my former statement.

It seems very promising. Reminds me of a few games like Left 4 Dead, yet a very different taste to it all the same. Might as well get it though since it contains realistic looking zombies. Who doesn't like zombies and trying to survive them through the virtual world?

I pre-ordered it a month ago, but thanks to some unexpected cash problems so I'll be unable to pick it up for a while. So it's just sitting in GameStop somewhere ... mocking me.

I'll be getting it on the 360 which apparently has a lot less problems with bugs and I'm damn excited for it!

I rented it on redbox, and I loved it!!! I mean, the story was disappointing, but by the time I got to the end I didn't really care, because I was having so much fun!

I lost interest when I read a description of the game

It's a zombie game (check)
A zombie FPS (check)
That has melee combat (check)
and 4 player Co-Op (Check)

But it's nothing like Left 4 Dead 2 because we're going to make you rescue survivors in a time limit!

This game can fuck right off. I'll wait for the DLC where you rescue the mad botanist and he gives you the zombie killing plants. Or the Old West Patch.

It's not a game tailor made for zombie fans it's a game that tries way to hard to rip off other games that were tailor made for zombie fans.

It also has experience points, talent trees, stats, weapons with stats, and quest progression. It really is very little like Left 4 Dead 2, especially since IT IS BLOODY HARD TO NOT DIE. To the point that taking 3-4 zombies on alone without some sort of crafted explosive (of which there are preicous few) will most likely kill you.
I can still see that the development team didn't have the creative juices flowing. RPG elements in an action games (gasp) alert the media.

I'm pretty sure that there will be a certain combination of inventory items that will break the difficulty curve (Just like in Dead Rising)

I'm not saying it won't be good I'm just saying I've already played it. And it was good. It was good when it was L4D and it was good when it was Dead Rising and it was also good when it was what ever game it ripped the RPG elements off of. If it turns out to be better then the sum of it's parts then I'll play it, but they're not getting $60 out of me.

Didn't I just say it also plays very differently to what you'd expect from L4D and Dead Rising?
Speculating about what will or will not break the game is a retarded reason to dislike the game. As for if it will, the weapons are Borderlands-ish and constantly become obsolete as you gain levels. If I'd have to classify it, I'd say it's L4D + Borderlands + Metro 2033.

I'm not saying you'll definitely like it, but dissing it out of the box because of such shallow reasons (oh it's an FPS with zombies, SURELY NOTHING INNOVATIVE) says more about you than it does about the game. Watch a gameplay video or something.
Pretty please with a cherry on top Quote the part of my post where I said Dead Island will suck.

Putting words in my mouth says a lot about you and absolutely nothing about me.

Anyway I think not seeing any innovation in any of the pre-release press, or the demo. plus Techland and Deep Silver not having earned any "benefit of the doubt points" from me, may not be the best reason to call the game out for being a barren wasteland of innovation before I've played it. But it's not the worst either.

Back to the point.
The OP asked if anyone was "EXCITED" for Dead Island. Not do you think Dead Island will be good.
There's no doubt in my mind it will be good. It'll be good in the exact same way that Uncharted was good, every element (Was/is/seems) ripped off wholesale from something else that was good.
Taking stuff I like from games I like and sticking them together and asking me to pay for it again is (To quote you) "A retarded reason to" get excited for a game.

I was excited even through all the crap I read on the Steam forums; "waah bugs, waah fps drops, waah multiplayer is a sack of shit" but the only complaint I have is that in co-op you cannot turn off the fucking voice chat. Which isn't even Push-To-Talk so every time you decide to go for that glass of water there will be 3 people who will hear you loudly gulping it and possibly farting.

But overall, I played the game for 2,9 hours straight with 3 of my mates and we had some fucking fun.

Remember that word?
FUN. The quests were fun yes, especially at the point where we got access to cars..
But the last 30 minutes or so of our playtime we spent doing precisely nothing but hunting down zombies and seeing how much of them we could carve off and roast.
Me and a mate spent the 30 minutes playing football with a zombie (as in, that poor bastard was the ball) and kicking zombies into swimming pools all the while cackling like a supervillain which also reminded us that we need medical help.

It's fun, it's buggy, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
