Just played it on PC for about 2 hours.
The core game in itself is pretty good. The combat system works great; it's pretty fun to break their arms and stab them in the face, especially with the great visual effects and good zombie AI. There's tons of cool places to explore, and you can tell they put a ton of effort into making the environment look good. They also did a great job of painting a zombie-apocalypse scenario, with people all huddled up in confinement hoping they don't get eaten by zombies. Despite having a whimsical colorful style, it's actually a pretty serious game, as opposed to more arcade-y games like Dead Rising and Left4Dead. So far, I'm enjoying this game.
Problem is that it's absolutely infested with bugs. Pressing 'y' activates no-clip mode, the set-your-gamma screen is messed up, the mouse sensitivity is a battle between in-game and menu sensitivity (setting it to a playable sensitivity slows the menu cursor to a crawl, and vice versa), the game has randomly crashed on me 3 times so far (in 2 hours!), and overall it feels like the game's programming is held together by paperclips and bubblegum.
Also, the menu navigation is really clunky and counter-intuitive. It's partly because of the extremely slow cursor movement, but the way things are organized just doesn't flow very well.
Basically, Dead Island is one of those good-but-infested-with-bugs games (for PC at least). They're releasing a patch very soon though, so hopefully it fixes these glaring bugs.
