The survival horror only really came into the first when you played it on the hardest difficulty (I still get nightmares of the 2 hours I spent trying to defeat the Leviathan with no ammo). I will reserve judgement of the second when it has been reduced in price a little and is more within range of my new years price limit (£19ish for xbox, £10ish for PC).

I would have deducted a point or two for its stupid, "Your Mom hates this" ad campaign.

Unless its really hard to kill shit then maybe.
You've obviously never played Dead Space before. On hard or impossible, you better be prepared to rip the hair out of your head due to frustration from dying so often. Doing it without guns would be impossible.

You madez me laugh.

OT:

I don't care what IGN or anyone thinks of it, I'm going to get it and most likely love it like I did the first one.

In my opinion I think IGN is bought out by huge AAA companies and by advertisers so they can get the best scores. I have no proof to back it up, but because it is a well known gaming site they must be corrupt! It's not like theres so so many fucking examples that prove the whole conspiracy theory is wrong or anything.

Now if only Steve Butts would comment on this thread...

Normally, I take IGN's reviews with grains of salt, especially when multiplayer is involved. But that's the reviewer's personal opinion and he found that it was really good.

I haven't played it, so all I can do is speculate if it's actually as good as he says it is.

Interesting, I suppose. I won't be getting it for a while, as I just started playing the original a week or so ago. I like it quite a bit, though I feel like I may have a heart attack because of it. It's actually managing to be fun to play, which is more than I can say about most other horror-type games.

but ill let my brother buy it first since he's into corporate cash-ins (Cash-In of Duty anyone?).
And was THAT really necessary? Damn Escapist, sometimes I wonder...

Bullshit. They might get paid to favor some games over others, but for the most part their reporting seems to be spot on. It's the community that comments on most of their stories that's full of fucktards.

You just don't like the popular websites, do you? IGN vs. Gamespot, it's just like PS3 vs. 360, completely stupid arguments.

OP: What does it matter if it's survival horror or a cover-based shooter? A fun game is a fun game, no matter what genre it's shoehorned into, and it was touted to be a scary game in the first place. Whether it is or not doesn't really matter. Is it fun? Maybe. That's the IGN reviewer's (possibly paid for) opinion.

When did you have a chance to play it, by the way?
No, IGN are just terrible. Just look at this crap: http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/107/1070909p1.html
I haven't played the game, so I don't know if it is good or not, but one thing I found interesting about their review is that they give it a 2.0 total after giving gameplay 3.0, lasting appeal 3.0, presentation 6.0 sound 2.0 and graphics 1.0. Seems to imply that graphics are more important than gameplay, lasting appeal and presentation combined.

Heres how this works kids, did you like the first Dead Space? If you answered no then stop right here and don't get Dead Space 2. If you answered yes then does Dead Space 2 look interesting to you along with the fact that you liked Dead Space 1? If you answered no then don't get Dead Space 2. If you answered yes then by all means pick it up and shut the hell up about reviews already.

I don't think of dead space as a horror-game, more of a third person shooter with heavy horror-elements.

Well, great. This doesn't impact my expectations for the game until I see the general consensus and I don't really trust IGN, but their scores are generally fairly predictable.

So, yeah, we could have a standout title on our hands. We could not.

I don't trust a single thing on that site.

I don't care if IGNs opinion agrees with mine, I will never use their reviews for anything more than...oh wait. It's the internet. I can't use them in the toilet.
Printers, Onyx?
Naw it ain't worth the paper let alone the ink. Not only that but to get the review you would have to go to their site giving them 1 more hit. They should not be encouraged.

Its obvious this game doesnt fall under Survival Horror anymore now. So im going to coin the phrase Action Horror, just for Dead Space 2.

Still given the score and its pro and cons, I cant help thinking that something happened behind closed doors. That or maybe the game really is that good.

Ignore the reviews, play the game. If you're not really sold on the game, play a demo or rent it for the weekend. I'm not a fan of looking at reviews of a game I haven't played and then trying to pick apart their reasoning or declare that the reviewer's opinion is "right/wrong".
