I see your point, and to be honest I was improvising when I was writing the "guilty parties" part. There are plenty worse culprits than Halo, that's just what came to mind when I was typing. Honestly, now I think I should have put FF there. That being said, I put Halo down because the first thing that came to mind when they announced Reach, and even ODST was "Wait, wasn't Halo supposed to be a trilogy?" God of War is also guilty of that, and so is Prince of Persia, but Halo was the first one to come to mind.Starkiller8965 said:Kinguendo said:Being successful isnt selling out.Starkiller8965 said:how is halo selling out when there are only 6 titles the CoD/final fantasy/castlevania franchises have considerbly more than that.I am Omega said:6: Avoid selling out, or you better keep up quality, but even then we'lll call you greedy.
Guilty parties: Mario, Halo
!
EDIT: However a lot of people acuse successful people of selling out all the time so I can see why you would think it is... some of them have but not all success is derived from selling out.
im not saying being succesful is selling out I was saying there are better examples of the percived selling out rather than picking the easy option and pointing at halo
I don't agree with a lot of these. There's nothing wrong with doing #2. It's better if a game has a chance to reach more people. #4 isn't bad either. Plenty of people would rather see a series try something new than do the same thing over and over. #5 may be annoying but games are delayed for a reason, because they aren't ready for release yet. #6 makes absolutely no sense. When exactly did mario sell out? Mario has always been with the same company throughout his entire lifespan. And #7 doesn't even fit with this list. I don't see how "Similar things will be compared" is a "deadly sin" of gaming.I am Omega said:Based on my "Things in gaming you'll never forgive", I'm getting less specific and putting up a list of things that generaly tend to lead to rage in the gaming community.
We all know the 7 deadly sins. Well, I've gone and made a series of 'sins' of the gaming industry. Commiting these can lead to serious nerd rage, fanboy wars or even series death!
1: (taking one from ZP here) Never end on a cliffhanger!
Guity parties: God of War 2, Halo 2.
2: If you're going to be console exclusive... STAY CONSOLE EXCLUSIVE!
Guilty parties: Kingdom Hearts, Banjo Kazooie.
3: Never release important parts (ie story, game modes) as DLC.
Guilty parties: Assassin's Creed 2, (I forgot my second choice)
4: Try to stay consistant with the series style, or if not, the game better be damn good.
Guilty parties: Zelda Wind Waker (example of damn good game), Infamous 2 (recently forgiven)
5: Try to keep a reasonable timetable. We hate delays!
Guilty parties: Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Duke Nukem Forever (I'm sorry, I couldn't resist...)
6: Avoid selling out, or you better keep up quality, but even then we'lll call you greedy.
Guilty parties: Mario, Halo
7: When a game similar to you comes out before you, comparisons are inevitable.
Guilty parties: Prototype/Infamous, MW2/BFBC2
Try to think of your own. Think about what common thing tends to universaly piss off gamers. something that when metioned, everyone seems to get mad at it,and there are very little exceptions to that rule. Things in gaming that cause unanimus rage!
Let the insanity begin!
Selling out isn't to do with changing companies. It means when you change to become more mainstream/accumulate more money from the changes.Pat728 said:I don't agree with a lot of these. I think they can be used very effectively. Case in point: Heavy Rain/FahrenheitXinfiniteX said:QTE's. This needs to be number 1!
The problem isn't the amount of Halo games, the problem is that they're popular.Starkiller8965 said:how is halo selling out when there are only 6 titles the CoD/final fantasy/castlevania franchises have considerbly more than that.I am Omega said:6: Avoid selling out, or you better keep up quality, but even then we'lll call you greedy.

Most of thses aren't , my opinions, these are just things I noticed that people tend to get angry about. Not posting my personal ideas, just my observations. On a side note, I pulled number 7 completly out of nowhere, so yeah, I agree with you on that one in retrospect.Pat728 said:I don't agree with a lot of these. There's nothing wrong with doing #2. Huh? Do you mean the hammerhead? Cause that was free.otterdude said:Don't create an expensive DLC that is required to download any other much cheaper DLC, even would-be free ones that come as a promotion from Dr. Pepper. *cough* Mass Effect 2
I agree with what you said about QTEs, they can be a good addition to s gsme, but only if used properly. Unfortunately, the majority of developers don't use them properly, hence why they annoy so very many people. I think that Assassin's Creed II actually used QTEs quite well, because you got several opportunities if you missed one, and you didn't even have to do it at all if you didn't wantmanythings said:QTE's aren't bad, the problem is the way they are used. I would take issue with "Never end on a Cliffhanger". If it is a definite trilogy the second game can but the first game should always be a stand alone story.

Gotta agree with "no unskippable cutscenes tho", especially ones immediately before brutal boss fights!
