Well its a Fantasy game so that would necessarily mean that it would not be a big true thing about what it exactly look likes... and yes the "Inspired" does play a big role in the explanation of it all... The armor is probably the worst part of it all... the world leaves to the imagination and lets you rethink what you would think the game should look like... Also I to am not sure what is to be angry about here... I mean yeah it is making earth look like Northrend... but Its a game... Let them make it how they want...

All I saw was a bunch of FF characters in OTT "revealing" medieval armour with haircuts that would be considered "modern" by EVERYONE ever.

I also saw some art for WoW.

The Japanese made a big mistake banning Western interaction in the colonial eras, they've yet to realise concepts like racism, bigotry, ignorance and Stuff-that-isn't-Japanese

Apart from the player characters being androgynous fairy-folk variously disguised as cosplaying knights, pirates or conquistadors... Looks fine. Fine and Dandy in fact. Emphasis on the Dandy.

I don't see what you all are whining about, that's exactly what America looked like. Hell, I can look outside my window and see that shit.

A pterodactyl just flew by. Hold on, gotta go kill it.
All right! Now you only need to kill 5 more to get a Rifle of Redskin Slaying from King Washington!

Nope. Most people don't touch Houston. Sure, I've seen westerns, but that doesn't really represent my home.

I live in Australia.

There's really nothing more that needs to be said, even I get confused as to what my country looks like after watching American media.

Just look at the concept art. [http://swordofthenewworld.gamersfirst.com/concept_art.php]
[small]Because America looks like a cross between Vvardenfel and Middle Earth.[/small]

Isn't it a little mind boggling to see where they've taken this vague idea? Frankly, I'm a little floored. Do you have a favorite... Erm... colorful game reimagining of your home?

[small](And yes, I know it says "inspired." That's not the point of the thread, and its not a clever thing to say after it has been pointed out by ten other people.)[/small]
I dare say, this game risks destroying the reputation for meticulous historical accuracy that video games have earned for themselves!

What's next, a game based on real Japanese history featuring a giant crab?

EDIT: This game is going to need a cheat sheet so that the players can tell what gender it's characters are.

Us here in Australia experience it all the time. Yes we have a lot of desert, but its not the whole freaking country! We know how you feel. On the lighter side, we can have fun with gullible tourists.
When i was still at school a busload of American (please don't take it as a crack against Americans, that's just where they were from) students visited and we managed to convince a group of about a dozen of them that we had kangaroos running wild through the city and often kept them as pets, just had to keep them on leads. Laughed our heads off as they asked a teacher if she had a pet kangaroo as well.

I'm not sure why anyone in would find this hard to understand.

Most of Hollywood's 2nd world war films are just as fantasy when compared to the real history. No-one has a problem with stories of America single-handedly beating the Nazi's with nothing more than a toothpicks and a high dosage of Yank patriotism :D

Its a bit weird them using america as the location when its pretty far from anything american.
Maybe they were just too lazy to make up the name of somewhere?

Really, in general, our countries are so massive and diverse that any attempt at interpretation and mimicry of the whole country at once is bound to emerge as laughable at best, horrid at worst.

Where that little star is, I live there.
You live at the base of a volcano? What's that like?
That was a fire that happened earlier this year on Table Mountain.

Table Mountain Fire '09 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Table_Mountain_Fire]

You wouldn't really think that the propagating fire element of Far Cry 2 was relevant enough to the context of the game to be more than a marketing tool for 'innovative gameplay', but it was.

Table Mountain Fire '06 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Table_Mountain_fire]

In actual fact, it quite pissed me off in Far Cry 2 when the fires I started didn't get massive and last for days :p
