I had to set up my friend's mac for her when she got it. Worst time of my life. It just wants to do everything for you, and if you even tried to go outside what it wanted to do, it through a big fit.

Also, I have i-tunes because of my ipod and I dislike it as well. I have, in every possible menu, told it not to do anything on its own and not to even ask me. So, for example, I have it set to NOT open on start up and to NOT check for updates. And yet, every time I start my computer, it pops up saying "There is an update, install?". Like.. wtf?

Mac does not suck. I will give it that Macs are VERY good at what they do. But what they do it artistic stuff such as photoshop, movie making, music making, and looking damn fine while it does it. Problem is, once you go outside of its nice little box (ie: gaming, programming, science programs (MATLAB, MAPLE, ECT.), PCs tend to destroy them. I don't do artistic stuff, so I don't use Macs.

Finally, does it bug anyone when Mac says on a commercial they have a new feature (ex: a couple years ago started bragging about a 2 button mouse), when PC's have had said feature all along?

Why do I use a mac?
Well, I can partially defend myself by saying for the artsy stuff, but in my weird technophobia, I prefer more traditional media and haven't done any digital art attempts in a while.
What I can defend is that my parents were willing to get me any computer I wanted for my high school graduation, and after years of using a Dell desktop, I was done with Windows for a while. Yes, I can't do a lot of gaming off of it. That has not really impacted me. You know what I haven't had to do: look for anti-virus updates, reformat my hard drive, spend hours wondering why some install is not working, or even go looking online to get my interface to look how I want it. I admit some of those may seem petty, but I am just tired of all the stuff that Windows makes me do to make it work correctly. It seems counterintuitive to business. I guess I mostly use a Mac for the simplicity. I admit that most of my problems with Windows take almost no skill to figure out, but I am just at a point of being tired having to google solutions and figure out fixes.
In short, simplicity that save me sanity.

I've worked on macs when I have to and the first 10 mins is just adjusting, but the program seems the same and all the shortcuts are the same except they use whatever the hell that button is.

Trying to find things confused the hell out of me though, and then things looked like they were there but they were just decoys and everything hides if you don't look at it. It was all very confusing but when the program I want is up not much difference.

No, really, it's so much nicer to have it all contained in one little unit, and the magnetic power cords have definitely saved my ass many, many times. I live like a student (well, duh, considering I am one), and I do loads of extra activities and, as such, have a ton of stuff that it's incredibly easy to trip over, even if you aren't a retarded walrus.

I don't hate the OS BTW I just hate the elitist Mac users.

I use Windows because it's the most supported OS out there, so it's not that often I have to worry about OS compatibility. I don't even have anti-virus software. I probably shouldn't have pointed that out on the internet, but it's because I'm neither paranoid about viruses, nor am I stupid enough to go on a site that doesn't seem reliable or open suspicious attachments

Weird, I prefer making art on a PC.. Mac Photoshop is just fiddly and I'm always clicking OUT of it...

OT: I personally use a Mac for video editing purposes.
It's the way I've been taught and I feel my grasp of the video editing software is much better on a Mac and as such turns out better results.

Also if you're on a media Production course and wanna do some film making you're gonna HAVE to use a mac at some point, there's just no way they won't let you use anything else.

I use a mac because it lasts much, much longer than any other PC I've ever had; the one I'm typing this on right now was purchased in 2006 and still works just as well as it did on day one, and I have no reason to get a new one (aside from playing new video games, but that's not really a concern). Additionally, I just like using OS X a lot better than Windows, and I'm willing to shell out some extra bucks for that.

I had to use a Mac for studio-in-art class. I was frustrated with how to save things but the thing that irritated me most was the Minimize/Restore/Close was on the left! God that was annoying. I didn't mind Safari but I don't understand why Mac's have to be so diff(icult)erent just because they are Apple products. Needless to say, I did not enjoy "The Mac Experience".

I use it for all my editing and creating graphics but ultimately it's just a tool ya know. I use the Mac because thats what I was taught on in school and that's what I'm comfortable with. It's shit for playing games but the programs don't seem to crash as much as they do on other operating systems I've used.

I've messed around on my friends Mac for a long time and I've had a blast with Logic Pro and such, but Sonar 8 is very similar to what you can do with it. Plus, right now I have my keyboard hooked up via MIDI to my Windows PC. Adobe Premiere suits me very well so I don't need Final Cut. I mean, I have considered buying a Mac, but I don't want to shell out 1500$+ for a decent model when I have the equivalent right now. I don't see what all the problems with Windows are, but Mac's present themselves very differently and nicely, and that's why people like them.

I have used a Mac for maybe a year and a half now and I don't see myself turning back. I used to love windows, build my own pcs etc, but I decided to invest in a Mac and I have never looked back. I have just generally found it all much easier, much better to keep on top of things, and in general a lot more efficient. I know ill hear the "but it doesn't play games" argument, but that doesn't bother me; i use my macbook primarily for writing essays at university and it seems a lot more suited for my uses than a normal windows pc. If i do want to play games I can easily boot up into Windows 7, but I can't actually remember the last time i did. The idea of being able to boot into windows is nice considering how much people talk up the incompatibility of macs with software, but i honestly never find a problem with compatibility, unless its well, a game.

When I bought my mac it was on a whim. When I started using it it was all very alien to me, but I like change. Change is needed every once in a while. It looks different, feels different, and I like it. I always found windows overly complicated, not that that was too much of a problem for me, but simplicity is nice. I am glad that you at least tried a mac before making a decision as to why you like it or hate it, shows that opinion has some foundation. However, I have to say as much as you do not want this topic to end up like a fanboy war, it most likely will.

I had a 1st Gen iMac growing up. My parents got it after out old Windows 95 PC died. The new iMac only made me miss my old PC even more. Everything was overdone, there was no right click, I couldn't do reports for school because our school had PC's, and worst of all I COULDN'T PLAY DOOM ANYMORE! and from what I've seen these days not much has changed. Also their commercials are downright poop slinging. Tell us what your system does right! Don't just say the other system is "not cool". That's Douchebaggery in it's highest form.

I grew up with Macintoshes... My mother used to be a graphic designer, so it wasn't really practical to have a PC around. Then they became useful because my dad became a sound engineer. Then we just kept getting all his old Macintoshes whenever there was an update. It was great. I didn't have any problem using them since there wasn't any significant change over the years... I think the only thing that threw me off maybe was the dock, when that finally came around, but now I quite like it because it goes away when you don't want to see it. xP Also, Macintosh keyboard shortcuts are lufferly. <3

We had Windows XP and that lasted a few years before the poor creature croaked à cause d'un overload of viruses. It couldn't read Chinese or type French accents; the only thing it was good for was running the scanner. Initially, it had faster internet than the Macintosh we had at the time, but later the tables turned. Iunno, I guess "better" really depends on the computer you have and how long you've had it. You can't really compare "all" Macintoshes and "all" PCs, can you?

I use a Mac because my dad is an Apple fanboy. He detests PCs, and I have no clue why. I'm currently trying to persuade him to let me get a Windows OS to run on the Mac with Bootcamp. He's an artist, so he can use it a lot. I, on the other hand, am a gamer and am therefore thoroughly screwed with this machine.

Though my Mac runs exceptionally well. What it can do, it does a good job doing it.

i currently use both. not saying im rich just the macs i use at college the college mac's. then a laptop for personal and some college use
because doing media and music on a mac is better than the equipment on other computers.
logic pro is a mac program but can be used on a pc but it best used on the thing it was made for, and music programs are crap unless its logic or pro tools mainly used on macs by pros in the studio aswell. and for media far as i can tell its the same film just different face on it but with mac you can make stuff better and get timeing done and easyer to use.
so a bit of a diffrence then in film

over all mac best for work related stuff for music and film
pc best for normal work and shit
