I would like to see such proof.
Until I do, I would like to say one thing to you: Stop talking out of your ass. That's my thing.
Proof that an animal doesn't understand death or could ever contemplate suicide? Did you seriously just ask for proof of that? XD

The next time you see a cow riddled with depression, threatening to jump from the water tower, take a photo and send it to me. I'd love to see it.
I love how you've admitted that it can't be proven yet you state it as a fact.
No non-human animal has ever committed suicide. Ever. Never happened. Ever.

All those animals 'rescued' from the street and put down at the pound - none of them ever ended their own suffering. No abused animal ever took its own life. If the dog did indeed plead and beg to die to free it from it's immense suffering, would it not have killed itself?

Honestly, people, animal suicide? -_-
Where the hell did you get the idea of animal suicide from!? The discussion was about animals being aware and understanding of the idea of death.

I hope to god that you're joking. Otherwise, I have an axe to grind. Through their skulls.

I'm sorry to hear you had to put your dog down.
My family had to do the same this year, and they didn't tell me until about a week after when I came home. It came as quite a shock, I didn't realise he was that sick...

You killed your dog because it was diagnosed with cancer?

Treatment would probably be a better solution, but whatever.
Or dog had to be put down because he had colon cancer. Meaning he couldn't poop. Imagine the pain of not being able to poop. *shudders*

Well, we used to have many animals, but most of them are gone. Some died, some had to be put down, one escaped, and so on. That, and my grandpa dying, are the two encounters of death I've had. Lucky for me, I never got to see any of them dead. That would be too much for me.

First off i gotta say i know what your going through, i've been there too many times to remember, both for pets & family. You did nothing wrong ending your dogs suffering. Animals do feel & they know what is going on, you did the right thing, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Just a side note here, my family had a cat that lived for 21 years, he was in perfect health & one day he just never woke up. We really did lose a member off the family that day.

This has really gotten me down, since I grew up with this dog, and now he's gone.
I couldn't even say goodbye, since a friend of my family was watching over him... :(
Sorry if I'm getting you guys down. My question to you guys is: Have you ever had an encounter with death inside the family or pets?
Edit: Treatment wasn't an option. It was a form of cancer that was inherited from his dad...
she was 12 years old and the cancer has spread far beyond being treatable.
Basicly every organ was infected.
Because I don't want to bum people out I won't go into detail
but I've lost a family member (if you count dogs aged 15 and 17) each year of my life
I'm 18 now

so yes I do know what it's like... amazingly due to how people have treated me, the loss of a pet is always harder on me then the loss of a human family member

don't want to think of how I'll hold up when my hamster dies

everyone else though... well... there's only like 3 people left... 1 of which I'm trained to break out fancy soda and cider when he finally does die

EDIT: Very sorry for your loss, I've always liked dogs better then people, wish I could do more then just sit here and tell you "I'm sorry" but that's all I can really do from here

sorry

EEEHHH. Wrong. Dolphins in captivity have been known to simply hold their breath until they die.
One notable case, the dolphin who played the part of Flipper. Look it up.

Also, dogs who spend their time being treated as little more than dress-up dolls tend to live significantly shorter lives, just because they lack the will to keep living through that crap.
You know the kind. The ones with the owners that talk in baby-talk almost exclusively and fork out hundreds of dollars to buy little frilly dresses for their clearly unhappy pets.
They also sometimes just stop eating to get out of it. Can't think of any notable cases, but I'm sure you'd find something if you searched hard enough.

Continue as you are, though. Who am I to deprive a lady of her trolling.

Treatment for doggie cancer is expensive shit.
Which would you prefer: The dog suffers through multiple chemo sessions with little hope of improving, or gets put down quickly and painlessly.

This was the more humane choice.
I suppose, if your idea of humane is giving up.
It's not giving up, it's not letting the poor thing suffer

If not giving up means the creature I care about suffers more pain than it would if I let it die calmly and without pain, then it deserves to be given up on.
I've been through this. I've seen the pathetic look my dog gave me. I saw the pain he was barely enduring. I've seen the look he gave me begging- PLEADING for me to end it.
Don't give me that giving up shit. What the fuck else was I supposed to do?
Pleading with you? No non-human animal knows what death is or could ever express any form of suicidal thought. They simply aren't self-aware or capable of such comprehension.
That statement alone just proved what an idiot you are

Animals probably understand death better then you do in all honesty

I understand it to a scary reality that I won't go into

so seriously, if you're just going to troll and be a douche to someone who's suffering trying to make them sound like a bad person then get a life

(off note: all this "animals don't-" crap makes me think you're uber religious)

My girlfriends brother died in a car crash last summer. Seeing her break down when getting that message over the phone is the absolutely most horrible memory I have of ANYTHING. I will remember it for as long as I live.

Death sucks.

Yup, not so humane now huh. And is cost still a factor if it comes to saving your loved one?
Spend $30,000 curing a dog you may have gotten for a midge under $200, or spend $300,000 curing a person who has sentience and also birthed you?

My dad died when I was 10 from a sudden and completely random heart attack. I don't recommend it.

On the subject of pets though, my cat was 16 when she suffered kidney failure and we had to put her down. It really hit me for six. You never realise how much a pet is part of your family until they're gone.

Right, and it's just as humane to watch your dog crawl around in pain. It's also just as humane to be selfish and try to keep your pet alive, when you can clearly see it's suffering tremendously.

Hold their breath? XD

I don't know if I should laugh or cry at what some people believe.

A troll? For not agreeing with you? Yes, everyone who thinks differently is a troll -_-
I would've thought the number of people who have disagreed rather strongly against you would have proven that you are trolling but you know whatever makes you happy.

On a side note it is amazing the things that people refuse to believe despite being shown proof.

Lemme find it...

You say animals don't commit suicide?

True they don't get depressed and die (like all these weak sorry excuses for animals called "humans")

but they DO commit suicide

one word

"Lemmings"

they populate really fast and when it gets over crowded the weaker jump off a cliff (and thusly die from impact)

so get back to me when you get your facts straight

EDIT: See later posts before "quoting" me on my "Lemmings" comment
