Yay... another thread indirectly attacking console players.

Can't everybody just give this shit a rest? But then again, I haven't played any of the previous Duke Nukem outside the Manhattan Project demo on XBLA, so I guess I don't really have anything valid to say about it.

So 2 weapon slots because of the lack of buttons on a controller? Have Gearbox never heard of a selection wheel? That uses 1 button and an analog stick.

Like Saint's row's selection wheel, that lets you hold roughly 10 weapons I think? So what was wrong with one of those? The game wasn't dumbed down for consoles at all. This is just Gearbox's excuse for them not considering all the possibilities for weapon selection.

I haven't played the demo yet, but if what everyone is saying is true than what the hell have the developers been doing for the past 12 years?

I am sorry but this is no excuse, Duke Nukem 3D is on the Xbox and it works fine, dont blame the consoles, if they knew that there was a problem with the 2 weapons system then they should have fixed it. Timesplitters, Unreal, Red Dead Redemption and Saints Row, just a few examples of console games that use more than 2 weapons and all of them work.

As a Nintendo fangirl, let me just slam the Wii down on the table. The Wii is capable of having more than two weapons at once. Yes, the kiddie, crappy, defective, silly little parent-friendly console that everyone rips on can handle more than two weapons.

Gearbox. It's not hard to polish DNF to at least be like its predecessors. All you had to do was follow the Duke formula and it'd be a hit. Making a crappy Halo clone is not what Duke fans want. And you can't hide behind the blame-the-consoles route when the fucking Wii is capable of handling it.

Hell, you can't hide behind that when every system since the early 90's has handled more than two weapons.

So, good job. You could have at least made this decent. Instead, you made a realism-sucking FPS that'll probably be clunky and awful with embarrassing dialogue. It'll be like playing Halo online. So this might actually end up being worse than Kane and Lynch 2. Holy shit.

Maybe they were just trying to make the worst game ever?

I'm a PC player and even I know this is load of crap, 'dumbed down for consoles' just means 'we were too thick to implement it' I mean look at Bethesda they manage to come up with an workable interface for most of their (decidedly more complex) games. Fallout 3 and Vegas for example. I've played JRPG's on the XBOX, for example Tales of Vesperia, that have a massive amount of commands on the controller without menus.

Their development team just fail, they need to go and play an affliction warlock or holy priest on WOW and then they will learn how to get creative with keybinds.

I don't really see the problem here.
Honestly.
It has a two weapon system. Whoop-de-fuck.
Does that make a drastic difference to the game Duke Nukem Forever?
yes
its not duke nukem
duke has be around a long time, and has a distinctive personality that makes him, HIM
it was never about skill and difficulty, its about having every gun you got so far at any time so you could use any one you want to have FUN
only carrying 2 weapons will always force players to take practical weapons over fun ones. weapons like the shrink ray and freeze ray are more fun then functional, but will get little play time because players can't afford to use them.
duke was made before halo's 2 weapons system, and it worked the best with out it.

I just sent an e-mail to Gearbox to tell them, in a nutshell, to not screw it up. If you care even in the slightest send them a message.

http://www.gearboxsoftware.com/contact/

The game (Duke Nukem 3D) has a style that works. Each weapon has very specific uses and also allowed for personal preference in additional to function requirements depending on the situation. Not only do I believe this will prove to be frustrating in the single player, I firmly believe the online modes will suffer to some degree due to this blunder as well.

The point is, they (Gearbox) already had a good recipe. It works. Don't screw it up. Ultimately it's not even due to consoles. It's due to game developers ever increasing laziness and fear of needing to be creative. They can't blame this on a design barrier. They just didn't fucking try hard enough.

Hopefully someone can mod the PC version to bring it back up to the level it should have been at.

It's not even Halo 2's. Halo 2 had duel wielding and two kinds of grenades. It wasn't much but it's more then was offered by the Duke Nukem Forever demo.
Seriously, calling Duke Nukem Forever a watered down Halo clone is just insulting to Halo.

Regenerating health, two weapons only, no boot?

Bad Company let you hold more weapons AND it had a health system, same with Resistance, and Call of Duty 1,2 and Medal of Honor before it too fell to the plague of Halo.

well at least I have a reason to cry for the current generation, and not get this game.

yeah i think it's pretty much established that dumbing a game down only happens when devs are lazy or on a tightly limited budget. From what the gearbox guy said we can be shure it was lazyness.
But isn't "to lazy to use the advantages of platforms" the definition of dumbing down anyway?

lol @ all of the PC elitist morons getting another dose of reality. Another moment foreshadowing console gaming slowly but surely making PC gaming irrelevant.
It has nothing to do with consoles despite yer usual misleading title on here but more with the developers making bad decisions and trying to justify them in a pathetic way.
It would not have been made if it were not for teh consoles...so ya...nothing to do with consoles....rrriiigghhhhhttttttttttttt

That's what I was thinking, something like the wheel from Saint's Row, Bioshock, or Perfect Dark. It's a bit disappointing, because I always liked having an emergency rocket launcher in my back pocket, but I'll have to wait and play the game to see if it works.
