In OP's defense, according to his story, they did it first. Waiting around a homosexual's vehicle and trying to purge him of his 'sin'? That's pretty awful.

I couldn't give a rat's ass what they did or what he did. They're both the fools here, but to say what they did is awful is just flat out wrong considering worse things have been done to "cleanse" people of their sin and you're just insulting the victims.

To say that someone born with a slight genetic defect (or whatever causes homosexuality) is an impure aberration, scorned by God, and in desperate need of rescuing from their 'sinful' nature, lest they be cast down into eternal damnation and suffering; that is awful. It's not what those people did, it's the beliefs that their actions represent that I find repulsive.

Yes, it WOULD have been worse if they had brutalized him in some way. I never said what those people did WAS worse than the violence that has been acted out on homosexuals in other situations. You put those words in my mouth; just because I used a strong negative adjective doesn't mean I think a certain action is the be-all, end-all of horribleness.

Bear in mind, that both the nonviolent actions of the students at this school and the violent actions taken against homosexuals elsewhere originate from the same set of beliefs; that homosexuality is, by nature, an affront against God. Actions originate from beliefs, be they violent or nonviolent. I agree that we can be glad that OPs friend wasn't attacked, but I still find it awful when I hear about people who hold those kinds of beliefs.

I still say that he's calling his friend gay for listening to Yellow Card in a means that he is a pansy, not that he is in fact a homosexual.

You said it was pretty awful... which implies that it was, in a way, awful. What they did was laughable and kind, not awful. Targeting him for homosexuality would have been much more brutal than that, but considering what kind of people he was dealing with he would have most likely walked home with a pamphlet or a call from school asking that he attends a special camp to learn to no longer be homosexual.

That didn't happen, which is my strongest reason to believe he isn't a homosexual and that the OP used it as a means to say that his friend is inferior by listening to Yellow Card -- probably an inside joke we're unaware of.

I think they just prayed for his soul because he listened to the genre known as Metal.

On the topic at hand: based on the information at hand I must say that the actions of all parties involved could be described as "dickish". While I can attest that I am somewhat pleased by the action taken by the OP, I would point out that his actions are unlikely to result in a change in the behavior of those "offended" by his musical choices. In such a case where doing something will have the same affect as doing nothing, I'd have say that doing nothing would have been the "better" choice.

The less amusing choice yes, but one that I could support in all respects.

Ok first off i live in the south. The bible belt. Now there is this school *wont name it* but its overly religious to the point where girls must wear dresses down to shoes shirts that cover everything cept neck guys and girls cant be near each other when walking or on same side of street in campus etc. They also are only allowed to listen to music that is approved by the university if your living on campus or play it on the campus radio. An example is a friend of a friend went there to visit and he left his case of cds open in his car and they saw a yellow card *yes my friend is gay* cd in there. A whole bunch of students surronded his car untill he came back and started praying for him trying to save him etc. Now i was told this and took it upon myself to fuck with them. Now being the metal head i am and listening to about every type of metal i picked out a few good songs to play. they are *dont know how to show videos someone mind telling me*. So i had a student teacher teaching my anatomy class who went there and had heard there schedule before. So i took it upon myself to drive into campus right when there classes ended since there all in one building and proceeded to drive around the campus playing this watching them literaly cry cover there ears with bibles *which they have to have with them* doing the catholic cross across there chest etc. It brought such joy to my heart. Now before i get bashed note i do not hate most religious people just those who take it to an extreme like this. So is this as dickish as some people say or is it just funny which ive been told

I love metal and it's interesting to note that although many Christians still believe that rock and metal is the devil's work, there are also quite a few "Christian Metal" bands floating around. I listen to several.
I would say that's a dick move, but when you take your beliefs to such an extreme, how can you not expect someone to exploit your weaknesses - I certainly would (But maybe that's just my sadistic side coming through).

Yeah all those christian "core" bands completly suck ass. And a lot of core bands are trying to do the "satanic" thing that death metal did way back when. sucks being a metal head now a days since most people think core music is metal now -_-

Urgh, don't get me started.

Most of them do suck, to be frank, but they aren't all that bad. I don't take their beliefs into account when listening to their music (Unless they fucking preach at their gig, which I have suffered through before).
As for all those Hardcore bands - my main issue with them is that they are SO generic. 90% of the time their music is completely interchangeable, and no band seems to have any defining feature which sets them apart. There are a some, but they are few and far between.
Given the unbelievable level of mediocrity within the mainstream metal scene of late, I've found myself listening to more and more osbcure music. Or just listening to 90's death metal bands like I'm stuck in a time warp. Either way, really.
