Did anyone think that F.E.A.R. was scary?

I only found F.E.A.R.'s beginning scary (as I didn't think it was going to be one of those games, and eventually got myself mentally prepared), but I did find F.E.A.R. 2 scary at a lot of points (especially the ending o_O)

I played through FEAR and FEAR 2 and didnt think it was that scary sure there was those moments that made me jump but allmost every game has those now.

So on your oppinion was FEAR scary?
None of then were even a tiny bit scary to me. The overused "creepy girl" thing is just plain boring not to mention unoriginal having been done so many times in The Ring, The Shining, and dozens of other horror films. The rest is just computer gore and if you've seen one bloody limbless torso, you've seen them all.

The fact that other people told me at the time that they found it scary, now that scared me, albeit not in the way the developers intended.

Never played FEAR 2, but FEAR 1 had me jump in my seat a couple of times and waste bullets, only to reload to a point before that, and go through again ignoring the "scare".

Honestly I think Yahtzee hit the nail on the head. It's a FPS game that has to remind you occasionally that you are supposed to be scared. The horror parts weren't scary, they were annoying.

Putting a break in the scary parts is ok to get the player to let their guard down, but not when the break is so long they forget that there's a murderous ghost around.

Negative. The more they tried the more they failed. One thing that really cheezed me off was the "ghosts" or whatever they were, turning into... feathers? Was it feathers? I could have sworn they looked like feathers when they went poof.

Oh don't get me started on how much they took off The Ring. It was like a cross between The Ring and The Grudge.

"Violent little girl with black hair that covers her face and moves about like a spastic".

Oh, and lets not forget to mention the heads up they give you every time something scary is about to happen "flicker of the lights and your hud... I wonder whats about to happen here..."

Silent Hill 2,3,4, and Shattered Memories was scary. F.E.A.R was pretentious.

It did startle me at times.
I must say sir... you have a LOT of digits after your name.

There was one scene that really made me jump back in surprise.
Ladder.
Otherwise, no. Not really scary, but very atmospheric nonetheless.

FEAR 1 is one of my favorite games, got the platinum edition.
Even the first addon (though it's non-canon now) was awesome.
The second...
Not so much. Still okay, but not as great as the original and the first addon.
The ladder creeped me the shit out. But the rest..I dunno. It was startling, not scary.

I have yet to get Project Origin because it is a crappy console port, and I'm not sure how I feel about playing it yet. I may get it later when the price drops significantly and see if it's any good. I can stand to loose $19.99.
You're in luck.

I played FEAR 2, and I quickly discovered that nothing bad would happen during those Alma scenes (to me) so I actually just enjoyed them. There was some parts of the game that got me anxious tho - the parts with the ghosts. In the school and I remember in a creepy/super dark basement. Those parts got my blood pressure up but not really in a scared way more in a "MOTHER FUCKING GHOSTS I KILL YOU!" I tried to be a hunter rather than the hunted...

I played the original F.E.A.R. in one play through starting somewhere between 9PM and midnight and beating the game around dawn. Which, was awesome timing on my part. I didn't find the game to be frightening so much as just plain creepy, especially when I was tired. I think I had a uh... different interpretation of the ending for the first game though.

I never played the second beyond a couple of demos. It just kind of sucked.

But yeah, basically, Alma didn't kill you when you were down there, she even saved your life. At the end, when you're trying to out-run the nuke, she's not trying to kill you, like I found so many people saying after I beat the game. She's just trying to be with her son.

Of course, the Second F.E.A.R. kind fucked that ending, but I don't like the second F.E.A.R. anyways, so I'll stick with my ending. ^__^

Hell yes.

Sure it wasn't as scary as condemned: criminal origins but when I played F.E.A.R. it wasn't out yet.

The ladder scene in particular scared me shitless.

Plus, it was a hell of a lot scarier than 2. Mainly because you were helpless if the ghosts and shit decided to do anthing. Where in 2 you used quicktime events to survive...

But yeah, it was scary as all hell. Then when Condemned came out, I played that.

I played both games and found that they were both scary with great atmospheres. I did find F.E.A.R. to be scarier than F.E.A.R. 2 though.

I was definetly spooked out of my chair :S I could only play for 5 minutes. Maybe it was just scary in the beginning? :p I'm very susceptible to fear and on top of that I'm a pussy :p Horror stuff just isn't my thing
I think me and you need to hang out (and play horror games, watch horror movies) together. I really need to watch more horror movies and play more games, I like you when it comes to games I am 100% pussy, I get scared by games pretty easy, it's really weird because stuff doesn't really scare me in real life, no idea why it happens.

I would define the difference between creepy and scary as creepy having all the hallmarks of scary without actually making you scared. That being said, while I love both FEARs nether of them were really scary. They were both cretainly creepy, as they had some great 'jump' moments and some fantastic atmosphere, but I was far more interested in the story and combat then the scares.

Games just don't seem to ever scare me I guess. Dead Space? Same as above. Condemmed demo? Actually kind of meh (Though that may just be the demo). Silent Hill Shattered Memories? The nightmare sections were so totally broken it removed all horror and replaced it with a burning desire to do unspeakable things to the developers. Even the abso-fraking-lutely fantastic Silent Hill 2 was sadder then it was scary.

The closest I've ever come to being scared by a game was that one abandoned lab in STALKER-SoC. It's pitch black down there, and your surrounded by animal noises so that you have no idea if there's actually something waiting around each corner too eat your face off, especially since you die so easilly anyways.

Oh, and hiding from guys in Penumbra. Now THAT'S an amazing horror series.

yeah fear suprisingly had its good jumps here and there, and a few times where i was creeped out goin around corners and whatnot, otherwise fear 2 did not do that to me

i've played a shit ton of horror and games that are intended to be creepy...a ton of them did not do this to me, so i give fear a thumbs up for doin it sometimes
