I disagree. I played the valve box first, I hated it all.

I realy like L4D. I dont apreciate you saying that you dont think L4D fans are intellectual, but I respect your oppinion.

L4D just appeals more to me than half life, wich I felt was to generic.

Oh wellz.

We all have our oppinions.
I didn't say that all Left 4 Dead gamers are unintuecuals, just most, it seems every time I boot up L4D i always seem to find way more little kids then adults or "teamworkers"
oh.... Wow now I feel like I reallllllyyyy shouldnt have edited my post.

uhhhh......oops?

edit: You know what, I cant pretend to be civil about this.

I thought Half Life was a load of $%#@ and I thought Portal was boring as anything.
I felt that TF was a COD or GOW wanabee, and I thought Valve was just a sespool of shite.

Then L4D came along.

And I loved it.

So I don't apreciate you bashing L4D fans just because you dont like L4D.

I dont like Half Life, you dont like L4D.

Were different. I like action, you like whatever Half Life is. (Puzzles?)

I dont bash you, so please dont bash me,
My....God......

I don't think I've ever met anyone who's shared my opinions on valve before. Congratulations.

Going by what you've said. They only expanded their potential fanbase by making a game for "non- intellectual" gamers. So no, I don't believe Left 4 Dead ruined Valve.

Ruined them? No, it was a good game done with zombie movie tropes and style, and I doubt it's taking them in a wrong direction.

It did slightly lack the Valve charm (it's as vague and undefined as it sounds), however, at least compared to the games in The Orange Box.

What the FUCK? Half Life 2 sold over 6 million copies (not counting the orange box or steam sales), and L4D has sold no where near that many. Also, HL2 is as action packed as L4D (except for the odd seesaw puzzle, and after Episode 3, Valve are making more Half Life games. And I resent the assumption that all gamers under 18 are whiny pricks. I, and my friends are not, and please, stop using this shitty stereotype.
I don't think anyone know how to read these days.

O.T. do you know what the word HYPOTHETICAL means, it means not a real fact, it could be downsized or upscaled.

The 1 million and 2 million thing was just an easy way to get my point across.

And you do know that Half Life 2 has been out FOR YEARS, left 4 dead has only been out for about 3 quarters of a year and it's sales are amazing for the timie period.

And I'm not saying everyone in the 5-20 year old (and yes i've seen 5 year olds playing the game) range is an unintuecual, just most, you and your friends may not fall into that catagory, you may fall into the intuecual catagory (because the word generaly means most, not all dumbass).

And regardles of how many sales each game got, Left 4 Dead made huge amounts of money so Valve will follow that money train.

Look at it this way. The ancient Romans had architecture, philosophy and the great plays such as Oedipus Rex and the stories of Homer. Now right alongside all this civilization they had slavery, gladiators and orgies. Now I am all for the orgies but forcing people to work to death or kill one another for entertainment is a bit brutal and uncivilized in my opinion.

Granted I am picking on a long dead society and I am sure our descendants won't be too happy with craptacular job we have done but we stopped....ummmm... actually we still have slavery and force people to fight each other, often they die but inadvertently (right?), and we have orgies but we post them online and charge 9.99 a month for the hottest girl on girl on goat action.

Actually never mind let's nuke it and let the cockroaches deal with it.

Play L4D with some friends. It's a much better experience. As soon as you start picking up random people, you run the risk of picking up a retard or two. I don't think you've given L4D enough of a chance to have such a strong opinion of it. You're basically painting Valve as a bad game company because you have had terrible luck with online match-ups.

Now comes Left 4 Dead, now every Valve fan will still check this game out but many will not like it as much as previos Valve games because of a lack of story, little varity, and no more puzzles. Now Left 4 Dead may still be a good game but never as good as the Half Life series.

But to many non Valve fans, this game is a gift from god, these gamers enjoy non stop action, generaly no story, and some may enjoy teamwork.

I am just worried that Valve will follow the money and slowly start ditching their creativity to more games like L4D, I may be right I may be wrong but i think Valve is slowly starting to deteriorate.
Did Left 4 Dead Ruin Valve?

I read your little rant...

No.... it isn't going to ruin Valve.

This isn't going to make more people want to play Half-Life.
I think there's room for games like Half-Life and Left4Dead.

On Left 4 Dead for PC I find mostly nice, friendly, over sixteen years old people who are in full spirit of the game with the occasional hacker or griefer. On Xbox Live however, I find it's 30% bossy Americans who take it way to seriously and boot people for not doing what they say, 35% sweary little twelve year old assholes who think they're cool if they can make fun of people over the internet, 20% English fucktards who make fun of absolutely EVERYONES accent even though there's is no better, 10% griefers/teamkillers and 5% normal decent people.

When I'm playing any game on Xbox Live I think to myself "I pay for this?"

I guess what you say holds some weight. Even inadvertently, valve completely changed its fanbase, which left a lot of people a bit miffed that they were doing a rather trivial (though fun) zombie game, instead of working on the much-anticipated episode 3. While I have had some fun games on left 4 dead, I wouldn't say it's better than half life 2, or even anything on the orange box.

Half Life bored me to death. There's absolutely no creativity in the game, besides their gravity gun and you hardly even use it, besides their boring puzzles. It's just a standard FPS with aliens and evil military. Why does this game have such a huge following?

WAIT

WAIT

Wait

Could you please explain this to me? It doesnt have the key factors of either of those games. It lacks gritty realism, it lacks regenatory health, it lacks the shittyness..

If you could prove me wrong I'd be very much delighted.

It´s up to you whether or not you´ll use the gravity gun a lot..

+ The people like it so much for the believable characters and more-than-mediocre story.

In my opinion, contrary to yours, not every Valve game has to be for "intellectuals". The simple truth is just that L4D is going for a broader group of gamers. Really, I think people are just putting too much thought into it.

L4D isn't ruining anything.

OK, that was a little harsh, but I don't think we need to be worrying about it any time soon.
No, no, that was perfect. Really, it was. I think this guy thinks he's a great gamer and is awesome but has gotten his ass kicked in L4D and now he hates it. His post has got that whiny self-righteous tone to it that is best associated with those ass hats from Whale Wars. And he's probably still made Valve cares more about L4D2 than making new seesaw or "Hide the door behind a pile of rubbish" puzzles for HL2:E3.

They make a sequel to a cool game and suddenly they are ditching creativity? And what kind of stupid arse question is that, it brought them money.
I never mentioned Left 4 Dead 2, i said they would follow the money and start incorporating more of there KILL KILL KILL adatude into there following games,

AND TO ANYONE ELS WHO WANTS TO SAY IM A LEFT 4 DEAD HATER, IM NOT I MENTIONED THAT IT WAS A GOOD GAME, I NEVER SAID IT WAS TERRABLE, JUST NOT AS GOOD AS PREVIOS GAMES, IT FELT LIKE IT WAS LACKING SOME OF THE VALVE TOUCH (caps were neccacary)
