It's the first Pokemon game I've played all the way through.

I played Red, Yellow, and Ruby before it but I never got through them back then. Probably due to a lack of skill on my part.

Looking back, I can definetly say I've enjoyed it.

Aside from a few pokemon that I liked it was pretty forgettable. I think it's the second worst in the series, the worst being the first generation.

I put a stupid amount of time into Gen IV, loved them at the time. I thought the starters were great (tied with III as my favourites), lots of other decent Pokemon (Roserade, Staraptor, Mamoswine, Weavile, Bronzong are all worth mentioning, and there are others besides), some solid music (mentioned Ho-oh's battle theme in another thread) and the all-important physical/special split.

Can't go back to them now that Gen V is out, which is far and away my favourite, but at the time I thought they were quality.

I think it's good to step back and play a different Generation every once in a while. It lets you appreciate the advancement of the series :)

Yeah I've gone back and played bits of Gold, Emerald and Platinum since V. They're still good, but it feels weirdly empty not playing the full package.

4th Gen is definitely my least favourite generation, but I still enjoyed it. Most of the new pokemon were fine, some fantastic ones have come from it (Lucario, Garchomp, Spiritomb, Giratina), Cynthia was a cool Champion and the Sinnoh region was a decent region. Admittedly, I was going through a sort of phase of thinking I was bored of the games and didn't really have a lot of fun with Platinum, but when I went back to them, I found myself enjoying it.

Like any generation past the 1st, it gets a lot of undeserved complaints but as far as I'm concerned it's still pretty good.

Gen 4 is my 2nd favourite generation, mostly because my first Pokemon game was Sapphire, and I played the shit out of that game. But 4th was brilliant, great music, physical/special split, interesting dual-type starters, badass legendaries and Team Galactic were somewhat decent villains. If they put the story from B/W and puut it in D/P it would probably be almost perfect.

I really liked Garchomp and Giratina but I didn't really care too much for the starters. The games were fun but gen 4 had the weakest starters.
I agree on the note that the starters didn't share that same charm as the other generations.
Cyndiquil will always have my love, so that bias may blind me, as I compare every generation back to those three, wonderful starters.

As for the question, yes. I did enjoy it. However, I found it a little more "direct" compared to the others. While all of them had that same relatively linear path you can choose, I felt that Diamond/Pearl especially felt like I went on a straight path right through the game.

On a related note, I had the most fun that after I beat the story and imported all my Pokemon to complete my collection, using the Action Replay to walk through walls was entertaining for hours.

I really like the snow town, the atmosphere there is just wonderfull.
Also Cyrus' theme (which reminds me of the a lot Hoenn legendary theme)

I loved Gen 4, but Gen 5 brought so much into it that it is my favorite. With a series like Pokemon, progress and change is a welcome thing to me. I of course being a person that has four teams so far in White and they all are made up with different Gen 5 pokemon. I did that out of spite to people that think Gen 5's editions look stupid and aren't good. Seriously, the Gen 5 pokemon have made up some of my most powerful teams to date.

I just wish from hear on out Game Freak would do the work they did in the Gen 2 remakes, with every game after, where I can have whatever pokemon walking behind me. That is a big factor in giving the games more personality for me.

One other thing: They made TM's infinite in Gen 5, and they better keep them that way from here on out, because that was one of the best changes they've made out of everything in awhile.

There's adults that actually still play these shitty games?
Yes, adults that what to play some of the best and versatile RPG experiences in existence.

A person that calls them shitty is wearing some awful big blinders.

Yep. It had some really awesome looking graphics(yes, I like good looking graphics, sue me), the pokemon were pretty cool, and it was just all around a great game. And the pokemon anime imo got really good towards 8th gym battle up until the end of the season, and it was like the only one where most of his pokemon were fully evolved(yes, I actually care vaguely about the cartoon, sue me!) I've really just enjoyed the games more and more each gen. Well, 3rd gen is probably my least favorite, but I still generally like each gen more than the last.

I have Diamond. It's okay. It's not my favorite and I perfer other generations, but I do not regret getting it for my birthday.

I have enjoyed every Pokemon game I've played, but Soul Silver is my favorite thus far (I haven't played Black or White yet though).

Agreed, I still wish they'd add multiple game saves, though. Having to delete everything every time I want to go on a new adventure sucks, and so does having to buy an extra cartridge to do it.

I did immensely. I imported my pokemon from leaf green and sank well over 100 hours into it. Maybe as many as 200.

I loved Diamond. I really wish I hadn't sold it. It was the only pokemon game I was stupid enough to sell.
Hey it's nice to see you say something positive about a game I like... :D

You always seem so negative when you talk about some games..

I did really enjoy that generation. More than III, certainly. The style was much more interesting, overall. Also, HG/SS, if they count, were some of the best pokemon games ever and practically perfect adaptations of the originals. That was nice.
