I'm not going, it's in approximatley a month, but I decided not to go due to not really having a point in going. I have few friends and those I do have are together so I wouldn't really be spending time with anyone, not comfortably anyway.

I did, it was awesome, should have got my haircut for it though.

School wide house party after, sneaking flasks of gin into the meal and basically fucking around whilst looking smart.

I loved school...

Yes I did. The dance was fun, once you let go and stop caring its a lot of fun. I'm guessing most people here are guys and are terrified to dance without a partner so they sit on the sidelines. Which is never fun for anyone.

Before and after however, was a blast. We had a 7 course meal catered (only for $25 a person too!) and enjoyed each others company. Afterward we went into a friends hottub (pool was waaay to cold and that time of night) and played word games and talked.

I loved it.

I guess the ball we had at the end of 13th year would be equivalent to this 'prom' thing.

Yeah, everybody went (and I mean everybody), and it was great! I'm not much of a dancer, though, but my pals and I found plenty of ways to keep outselves (and quite a few other folks) amused. We quickly made friends with the bartender, and the evening ended for me when one of guys finally managed to beat me at competitive speed-drinking and I made good on our bet that the loser would do an extended go-go-chicken dance on the buffet table.
Oh yeah, and my date actually participated in the contest... we had lots of fun at the ball and after.

Ah, good times. :)

I went to the high school and 6th form prom- regretted going to both. If you like pop-music, dancing and have lots of friends who are going then i would recommend it, but if you don't then i strongly recommend you stay in and play video games or do paintballing as one the posters here suggested- you'll have so much more fun.

I dont see why people would want to spend time with people they never talked to, or liked.
You should probebly spend time with the people you WILL be sad to lose contact with rather than the twats that you want to forget.
I liked everyone at prom. I'm sad I don't see a lot of them more often, but it's good to have people you haven't seen in a while so that when you do bump into them in a bar or whatever it's more fun.

I'm sure most people actually liked other people in school, and prom is a great way of having a final party of sorts with them.

I'm going to my grade 12 prom night in about a month, but I'm mostly apathetic about it.

I skipped year 13 and went straight to uni, so didn't really get that big end of school thing. Didn't miss it either.

Apparently my prom was shit with only the afterparty's (thats right, they had more than one) being worth it. Nobody there liked me anyway. I'd punched half of them in the face before.

We didn't have one at our school because nobody wanted to go. I think it's mostly because we just wanted to go properly clubbing and get pissed. I certainly didn't want to go because I've been pissed with teachers and it always ends with a LOT of regrets.

Yep, my mom let me drive my high school girlfriend to the prom in her car. After the prom, the high school gf and I had sex in the driver's seat. To this day, my mom still doesn't know and she still drives the same car. Damn I miss those days, lol.

I went through the same motions. Went anyway. Turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life.

Yeah, I went to my junior year prom (my 11th grade prom) and I'm going to my senior prom (12th grade). And I am a master procrastinator. On the last day to buy tickets, I asked a girl to go with me.

I went to my leavers ball (I refuse to call it a prom and luckily that was the mantra at my school, I find 'prom' to be such an idiotic Americanism and hate the fact that it has infiltrated the UK education system) in Y11 with a group of friends, we had decided in advance that we were going to go as a group rather than couples and we really enjoyed ourselves as a result - one of my friends brought a pack of cards so we grabbed a table and played cards for a lot of the night. I saw it as a last chance to see a load of people who were going to college rather than 6th form as opposed to an angst ridden couples dancing night - by all means I danced but meh...

As for my 6th form leavers ball, I had just got a girlfriend so went with her but hung out at the tables for most of the night. I had turned 18 about a week earlier so spent a lot of the night drinking at the bar that had been provided for us.

Do I regret it? Not one bit because, despite me being there with people that I couldn't care less for I was also there with my friends, some of whom that was the last time that I saw them.

To the OP: I realise that you hate a lot of the people there but why not go with your 8-10 friends and have a laugh, you only ever get a Y11 leavers ball once in your life but you have your whole life (and at the very least the whole summer) to have mass all night gaming nights.

Secondary school dropout. Wasn't in long enough to go to a debs, or whatever it is called over here.
Probably wouldn't have gone anyway, though.
