Did you notice most big games this year have a 3?

InFamous 2, Dragon Age 2, Dead Space 2, Crysis 2, Portal 2, TES V, Bulletstorm, The Last Guardian (with no words on the story, I'm going to assume it's not related to Ico), Catherine (possibly?), Duke Nukem...8? 7? something like that.

Yeah, there's sequels. Sequels aren't always a bad thing. There's also new IPs coming out this year, and there's 2s, 3s, 5s, and Forevers coming out. 2008 had a bunch that had a 4 (or IV) attached, just as the old Sega/Nintendo arrivals would have closely matching numerals on the end of their titles. It happens when new IPs compete for attention at roughly the same time.

Still waiting on more news about Plants vs Zombies 2...

With the exception of a few, almost every big game this year has a 3. For example: Mass Effect 3, Gears of War 3, Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, Modern Warfare 3, Killzone 3, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, and even those without 3s like The Last Guardian and Deus Ex: Human Revolution are still the 3rd even without them being a continuation.

So anyone else been noticing this? Also what are your thoughts and feelings on this year having so many 3s?

Wait, how about Bulletstorm, Oblivion (its 5 or 6 or something like that), and Battlefield 3 (which is actually the 8th game in the series), are all really not threequels. Though I do see your point pretty much. Hey, it is better to have high quality sequels than nothing at all.

I thought the 5 was DMC5, because I'm really looking forward to that, along with Portal 2, and I don't know what else is coming out besides MvC3. I'll have to get on top of finding out what else is coming out.

Sorry I didn't type out Retribution, didn't think it would be nit-picked that much.

Retribution would be a 1. It is the first Dawn of War 2: Retribution game. Or it is a 3: It is the third part to the DoW2 game, so far. You could call it a 2, as the second expansion to DoW2, but that is quite the stretch to fit it into the list of games you gave.

Anyways, I'm saving for ES5, and I'm not buying any other sequels on principal. I'm excepting ES5 because I've been awaiting it with bated breath, and it's actually a series I'd like to see continue.

Games normally aren't big until they are released and are popular enough to spawn sequels.
Bulletstorm and Brink might be quite successful however.

While it's not coming out until 2012 theres also S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 3, which is strangely the only game to be soon released that I care about.
