blah, I never equip those skills because it just feels cheap and takes challenge out of the game. I use concentration on Gabranth only but I leave the enemy gimping skills like snooze and lose off because it just feels game breaking. IF you play as gabranth, have concentration on, but try to beat some BRV out of your enemy so when you do go in for the kill, you break them while bursting. The only accessories I have on him are EX duration items which give me close to 50% plus and items that have my gauge around half full at the beginning of the battle.
Also the whole cowards punishment thing you got going is rather redundant since you can just EX while they are attacking you anyways. The the trick to getting gabranth to start tearing an enemies BRV apart is to EX while the enemy is attacking, it will stun them and then you tear them apart with retribution, dual rend, ect.. to the point of breaking or close to break.
Normally when i play as Gabranth (I'd show you my latest vid but I'm at school) I tap [] to charge and dodge enemies that get near. It's normally a dodge and parry routine where I dodge and beat them around a bit. Even when my EX bar is full I don't go into it unless I am suddenly attacked. The second that happens I EX and depending on if I am in the air or ground I use the appropriate BRV attacks. I batter them about even more to the point of breaking or close to and when my EX bar is close to empty I hit them with an HP atk and hope it lands. I allow some leeway though so my HP moves don't come out unless i am in a pinch or when the bar is at 25%. Gabranth is a character where you have to really balance your attack routines. Non-EX mode should be played defensively and be used to gain some "defensive brave" and EX mode is when you back your opponent into the corner and make them cry for mercy.
Gabranth and Golbez are my typical characters and I've fully mastered them so i know their play styles all too well. I adapt to characters rather quickly and currently getting my timing right with Jecht and Ex-Death who are complete monsters if you use them correctly. I'm warming up to Firion quite well too and probably will go back to cloud of darkness after I've mastered him. Never have i played a fighting game where it's actually fun, and that I am motivated to use every character. THIS is how fighting games should be done, encouraging you to TRY other players and making them all equally fun to use.
Personally, its a COM and so, I don't care, is don't spam, but i don't care about playing fair. My Gabranth is quite strong, and I have built him, quite a lot like my Kefka, quick building of EX, starting EX and also of course, lengthened EX mode.
It lures them in, into non instant HP attacks, and they come for you a hell of a lot faster, plus you KNOW they are going to attack so you have that knowledge to minimise Bravery loss.
I certainly understand timing the EX mode, I rarely use it outside of a vital part of the battle where I am being attacked, or making an end look good.
I can use everyone, quite effectively, know ALL there abilities, problems, perks, everything has become second nature, as weird was it sounds (!) Of course Sephiroth is my main, Golbez is overpowered (but its a COM, who is counting?) Kuja, Ultrimacia, Kefka and The Emperor are my secondary favourites. If I HAVE to pick a hero, it would have to be Firion, Zidane or Terra.
Square Enix (to me) made game of the year, and I've played every new release, such as Borderlands, Assassins Creed 2, Modern Warfare 2. They rounded every character perfectly, and making the player unable to button bash (to get rid of the pathetic people who do), but still making it simple to get on your first go. No game (unless designed by Square Enix) will come close to DISSIDIA.
