One of the 4 best movies of the 00:s (the other three being Crash, Sunshine and Traffic).

There is however risks associated with a sequel to District 9. The movie begs so many questions with potentially awesome and mind-blowing answers that writing a District 10 is littered with traps that would ruin not just the movie, but screw up D9 as well (kind of like the Matrix sequels)...

God I hope there isn't a sequel... The movie was Amazing. I think adding a sequel might be the Bioshock 2 problem of sellotaping a snickers bar to a gourmet meal.
EDIT:

So yeah, it looks like there might be a sequel.
And yes, that film was fantastic.

i think the main protagonist is a bit unexpected protagonist for a protagonistic film, else i find it good, though it made me chuckle with the sexual disease...

It was a pretty decent flick. But to me it was hardly worth a sequel and hardly worth all the hype and greatness reviews it received. I didn't even feel it was worth buying on DVD. Again, people, I'm not saying it was bad or attacking your opinions, I just didn't like it nearly as much as everyone seems to!

I loved that movie. It was just a perfect all around awesome movie and I don't think there should be a sequel. The movie ended on a cliff hanger and kinda sad note with the main character and it left us to wonder what would happen in 3 years time. I'd rather not have that wonder destroyed by a sequel.

It was a movie..... it had characters, and a story, and some nifty special effects, and hey! Well would you look at that, it even had a sort of underlying social relevance. Well, I see no reason why this shouldn't be considered one of the best movies of all time.....

Oh wait, yes I do - a lot of movies have those things. I never understood what made District 9 worthy of such praise, but that's just me.

A sequel would probably be a mistake and end up going the way of the matrix sequels with huge CGI wars that arnt as interesting or fresh as the original movie.

I loved the movie though, one of the best of 2009

I rented it not being a big fan of sci fi but my friend really wanted to watch it. After I got over how hilarious the accents were, I settled in for some good laughs and some sad times. It was an awesome film for what it was - the only thing I could fault it on was the aliens. I couldn't care less about aliens, but as you can tell, it isn't a very strong criticism for a sci fi film. :D

It was pretty good; I don't think it's as amazing as everyone says it was, it was an enjoyable watch but not something I'd watch again.

I think the main problem is that I don't care for Wikus, and there's something about the way the film is shot that makes me feel sick. The arm he gets and the bit where he eats cat food didn't help.

I really didn't like this movie, and it's been ages since I saw it so I can't quite remember my reasoning.

I know the main character being the most annoying thing to ever grace a film was definitely a contributing factor to my hatred.

the Problem with a sequel would be that to add to the whole story they would have to explain stuff, like why they like cat food. and if you start to explain to much of a scifi universe you take away the uncertain element that makes it all the more worthwhile to watch. And you end up causing a galaxywide war over trade rights

The main character has the idiot ball. That ruined the movie.

Given the options: go to the mothership and get cured or get dissected by your own species, Wikus wisely decides to knock out Christopher, pilot the aircraft, destroying it and any real hope of curing himself. Fucking idiot.
No, he had the Irrational Moment.

Because he'd be stuck on an alien craft for three years and on their planet for however long before getting back to Earth with the chance that they want to extinguish the human menace. Not to mention that that said alien race would probably treat him the same way we have them, even the dissections.

He wanted to be cured within the same day, but being forced to wait three years before being able to return is a bit much which brought on his Irrational Moment... and the man was clearly traumatized. I don't think anyone could act rational after going through what he did and just wanting everything to return to normal -- no strings attached.

Besides, the anti-aircraft missiles would have done the same regardless of who piloted it.

The idiot ball moment was when Wikus retreated from Colonel Koobus Venter while he commanded the giant exo-suit, but he redeemed himself shortly after... so not much to complain there.
The Idiot Ball moment is that he doesn't use the forcefield that the exosuit has used just seconds before he entered it.

I expected it to be terrible, but turned out it was pretty good. I liked the documentary style of the movie, it was different.
