Nope, though I'm really impressed how many avatars in this forum show pop culture things that I like.

I get interested posts posted by people who have catchy or interesting avatars but I don't make assumptions on people because of the avatars. My avatar has many fans tho.

Avatars are how I identify people on this forum. I rarely look at usernames, but I can see someone's avatar and say "Hey, that's the person who said something insightful in that other board, I wonder what he has to say".

And if it's an avatar that I like, I usually like the poster a little more as well. Typically, I don't think highly of people who have pictures of themselves as avatars. I dunno why.

Well by your name I assume you are some kind of robot. With a gun.

Yeah when I think of someone the first thing I see is the avatar.
You know people always make that mistake, which is fine cos i love transformers but:

Wow. That is the last thing I expected you to be. Still, it is about as plausible as a giant robot.

like some people have said, I geniunely respect something someone says more if their avatar is something i recognise from something obscure or random that I like. For example, with Cpt_Oblivious, I actually saw the exact page that was from the other day, and since then I've taken most things he's said with greater reverence :p I mean it's the least I could do, after all ;)

Usually its the names if you ask me.
How so?
Well its usually the... er it's because... I don't know how to say...
Um nicholaxxx could you come over for a demonstration. Thank you, that's a good lad.
What does the xxx part say to you? Is it a need to feel "cool"? To make yourself seem hardcore. Or the name, I kid ye not, Faps. Is it that much of a mystery?
How very shallow of you, I feel sorry for someone who judges me by my name on an internet forum.
That probably isn't a good name to have if you feel that strongly about people judging you.

It's more a combination of the name and avatar for me. Frankly what a person chooses as name and as a picture to represent themselves can say a lot. Not always but most of the time. I'm sure people could guess a bit about me from my avatar.

Highest form of angel may be good, but demented barber pays well.

My icon has Charles Manson spontaneously jumping at this guy in court, and then doing all these weird looks..

Not sure what it implies though..

If someone uses an interesting avatar, I like to think they have something interesting to say. So it kind of affects my first impression.

By the way, Metar0n, is your avatar from Calvin and Hobbes? It reminds me of one of those comic strips.

Yep. Sometimes my first impressions have been pretty spot on and other times not, but everyone picks a name and image to represent themselves, so unless it was totally arbitrary, I think there's definitely a connection to their personality, even if others might misinterpret it.

On forums where people can have sigs, that's usually something that also makes a strong impression.
