Do avatars affect you?

I wasn't aware that an avatar was anything more than just a picture beside a name.
The only thing it helps me do is recognise people easily. I've never been outraged by a 75 x 75 . Jpg

Honestly, I only pay attention to an avatar if there is a reasonable thematic connection between the nature of the post and the nature of the pic. In other words, the avatar has to be apt and suit the personality of the poster before I take it very seriously. If it meets these criteria however, yes I will make some assumption based on the nature of the avatar. In contrast, I will also make assumption due to the content and delivery of the posts, and I make these assumptions whether the avatar is fitting or not.

For the people who answered yes, I must ask, what do you think of Protoman?

Usually its the names if you ask me.
It tells you some things... That this guy is awesome because he watches Unforgotten Realms.
Yours tells me you probably didn't think Bioshock was as original as most people do...?

I have been meaning to tell you, you have f*cking sweet avatar though.
Personally, I really don't read or remember the names that much unless they match the avatar perfectly. I love funny or unique avatars, but lack the tech skill to produce one for myself. ;-; oh well-I do love my cute demon exploding penguin even if he is generic.
Thank you very much, how can a t-rex playing the drums in front of a nuclear explosion be anything but f*cking sweet:D

Your penguin looks cute but as soon as you turn your back on him, he'll rip your throat out and giggle while playing skip rope with your intestines...
I must agree, yours is the best avatar I have seen on here.

Yes, I always think of people as their avatars, rather than people, which then leads me to jump to conclusions about then, based on their avatar :(

I don't think my avatar affects many people though, I'm not even sure if many people know what/who it is...

i usually like a person more if i like their avatar, but i dont think any less of people if they have an avatar i dont recognise or dislike XD

names are important too really, i like unique names more, shows imagination :p

but posts are also important, so i tend to start keeping an eye out because of the name/avatar, then see by their posts

or something...

people think im insaaaaane O___O

Much to my secret shame, you're wrong. I have only recently in the last 6 months discovered how good SS2 was compared to bioshock, but sadly i played the spiritual successor first.
SS2 IMO had a much superiour scavenging element, and survival element as compared to bioshock, as well as a much superiour story.
I'd like to play the first and discover how groundbreaking THAT was for it's time, but I had enough trouble getting SS2 to run on XP, i probably have no chance with the first one.

Sometimes my judging of a person's avatar affects my thoughts on the user/post. As mentioned earlier, if a character/persona is recognized, I try to associate the avatar with the post contents.

It used to. As of since like a year ago, my ego's hunger was slated and it was me that had more important things to say.
However, it would not surprise me if there were many users on this forum that have not matured to that level...

Do you get affected by people's avatars and start building assumptions about them? Has happened to me, even though I try not to.
*Looks very closely at crazyhaircut's avatar.*

... Yes.

*Shuffles away, not losing eye-contact until he sprints out the window*

Not usually but if you're pretty new and have either no avatar or a Zero Punctuation avatar then I won't take you as seriously. I don't know why, but that's it.
*gasp* It moves now!! You must be a really awesome person! Your post is really awesome too! Awesome!
