If I play certain games enough and get use to them then I can be pretty good. I'm usually on a team full of boys and I'll rarely talk, but when people worked out I was girl they'd come after me thinking I was easy pickings.

Give me a rocket launcher in Halo and I'll wipe the floor with everyone.
Also, hunters in L4D ain't got nothing on me.
I think I'm pretty good. I've been told that I'm one of the few 'true gamers' that my guy mates know (aka I own more than one console and many games that I play on a regular basis. I think that was his definition, anyway.)

But I can understand why people may think that women can't game well. I've seen my other girl friends play, some of them suck REALLY bad. But sit them in front of the game for longer than 20 minutes and they pick it up pretty quickly.

Good GAMERS exist.

Holy shit, there are BLACK gamers?! There are GAY gamers?! No fucking way, you're just a straight white man gamer!

Well doesn't that just sound ridiculous.

I know I'm proud of being a good man gamer.
Oh thank god, someone who views things in terms of people rather than gender/colour/sexuality.

Why do people really care about the gender of a gamer that much? Honestly it wouldn't bother me if a girl completely dominated me in a FPS or a guy. Why do people really care about this topic so much?

My friend Rosina's pretty good. Admittedly, I haven't seen her play in a while, and I'm not sure she has a last name, but my point still stands - She's good. Actually, I've known a fair few good female gamers in my time. Still, I've beat them, because I'm ... Well, I did better than they did, apparantly.

It isn't that girls suck at video games, it's just that the average guy gamer is so socially inept they regurgitate cliches :p (WoW being the infamous example)

You're either good at games, or you're not.

Most people here would slaughter me at any videogame you care to mention.

Except Timesplitters. I rock that franchise. YOU'RE ALL DEAD WHEN TS4 ARRIVES!
I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. WoW has heaps of female players. Some of the most dedicated and hardcore raiders I knew were female.
Mind you I have seen really bad female WoW players and equally bad male players. So yeah I think it is a bit of an old sterotype.

You are a man that I can say one thing to! Only one thing!!

You're awesome!

Really I hate this gender type/stereotypes that people make up for instance I went to an internet caffé and someone thought he could beat me at L4D2 because well "I kiss guys apparently" I crushed him so badly :D Oh victory rush!

My girlfriend is a good gamer. She's better than me at some games, and I'm better than her at others, but we're both pretty good gamers overall. She's mostly good at Rhythm and Action/Adventure gaming.

Honest opinion here guys. Have you met any good female gamers?

I've noticed as a female gamer half the time it's assumed that I'm just a button masher who plays video games to make things easier for a boyfriend(if I have one >.o)But I'm actually pretty good and by pretty good I mean none of my guy friends will play fighting games of halo with me anymore cause they were tired of getting beast by a girl XD. Also what's the deal with that? Why can't you guys take defeat at the hands of a woman? Is it one of those immasculating things?

Please feel free to make your comments I really want to know.
Agreed. I can't tell you how many times I, too, have been met with scoffing or abject sexism when I say I like video games. People assume that means I play FarmVille or press the same button over and over again when dragged into a "real" game by my boyfriend and squeal whenever the character does something that remotely resembles a relationship between cause and effect. From the age poll I noticed a while back, I can safely say I've been playing video games far longer than many Escapists have drawn breath, and while I may not be the very best, I'd comfortably say I fall into the "good" category.

Ah, yes, that topic I love... not so much.

I am a female, and stuff like that really annoyes me.

Most people I play with online don´t know that I´m a woman, since I don´t vent oder teamspeak all that much, but I hear this "beeing beaten by a girl is the acquivalent of getting your balls chopped of" and "girls can´t game" stuff a lot. Does anybody ever pause to think what kind of a picture I, and other female gamers, must have of male gamers?
Personally, I am rather in the "can´t game well" stereotype, than in the "can´t loose, and is a massiv sexist dick about it" one.

In this context I also had quite interessting experiences when I was still playing wow, which has quite a lot of females playing, and playing well. I was our guilds main tank, and every other time we had to invite some randoms to fill raid spots, they where like "zomfg, female tank!" (And then proceeded to suck at their own role)
That was a job I can say I was pretty good at, I did not get the mt job for my pretty face (which would be rather creepy). And the worst times where when I had a second tank random in the raid.
Really, hardly any guy could live with beeing second best to a girl, even if they honestly did not know what they where doing, or did not have half the gear I did at that time.

I really got a few strange impressions of the male sex in those times, I can tell you that.

I'm a girl gamer and I think I'm pretty good at MW2, but I don't go out of my way to show that I'm a girl, like I have a gender neutral Gamertag, I don't put my name or any really girly things on my motto, bio, ect.
But I think most guy gamers dont like girls playing competitive online games for 3 reasons:
1.) The FPS's any game in general is supposed to be their "Teritory".
2.) Most guy gamers are masochistic, egotistical, sadistic, and sexist.
When it comes to online gaming.
3.) Most Guy gamers think that because your a girl you have to suck, and if/when you beat them it makes them angry because Xbox Live, PSN, ect. is their outlet to show who is the alpha male, not alpha FEmale.

[sub]I seem to be ranting, lol Im gonna stop.[/sub]
You seem to forget something. There's a spend of time in the live of All male known as adolescence. In this state, boy just came out off their aversion for girls and have awkward interaction with them. Some boy take longer, but it just a phase. If you take that into account, can you tell me the ages of those who are intimidate by girl gamers?

On my hand, I'm not one to judge people. In fact, you should put girly stuff in and around your account name and bios. Be proud to be who you are.

Alto, I got to admit that some girls has problem too... but that's a rent for another time.

I think it's because gamer men used to be the only ones to play games. It was their domain.

I am a guy, but I don't get pissed off because I got beat by a girl. My friends laught at me, but I get back at them telling her: "Hey, wanna hang out some time?". ;)

Never met one in person, but I have online. The one I can remember most is when I was playing swat in Halo 2. It was at an odd hour so I kept having to play against the same (really good) team over and over. The best person (most of the time) on the team had a name like gamergrrl or some simplistic name like that. I heard her talk too so I know it was, in fact, a girl. I didn't have a team so I always lost, but I always had a real high score too. Anyways I really enjoyed playing against her because she was right at my level. Sometimes she would beat me and sometimes I would beat her, lot of fun to fight. Probably my favorite online opponent ever because I got to play her so many times and we were just about as good as each other. So there are obviously some good girl gamers out there.
