Do you always respect other people's opinion? (be it about games, movies and music)

People are allowed to believe what they believe. I only really get offended if they that because X is great then Y is terrible.

X and Y can both be great.

I respect that they have an opinion.

I don't have to respect the opinion.
Qft. Not all opinions/POVs deserve equal time, because they don't all have equal merit. That doesn't (usually) mean that I shun them for life, especially not over works of entertainment, but still. Dang. If you don't love O Brother, Where Art Thou, I don't have time for you.

I respect it if people try something I like and then tell me they don't. That's fine. However, what really makes me rage is when people try to tell me my stuff is crap without even knowing it.
That, I hate when someone judges me or my opinions without ANY knowledge about it.

For instance, I listen A LOT to In Flames, Scar Symmetry and Soilwork, and a lot of people goes off: "Listening to that satanic music gain now?" etc.
It's just so troublesome.

usually i will mock their opinions, then walk away with an undeserved sense of superiority.

It's their opinion, not mine, so they deserve to think whatever they want. I'm pretty easy to get along with because I accept other people's opinions and things that would make them fucked up different, as long as they do the same for me.

I do, but not if they state their opinion as fact, and also use it to attack or put down other people's opinions.

Those that go on the other side of my opinion, for example, Metal vs. Pop, do not earn tolerance nor respect from me. I consider my opinions to be somewhat the right choice.

I respect most opinions, no matter what they say, but there are exceptions.

Anyone outwardly racist, sexist, ageist, will incur my annoyance, and while I may argue with them, I won't respect their viewpoint, it's a very different scenario.

I might debate with a religious person (I'm atheistic, mostly), but I will respect their belief, and their right to it. Same with a debate over a book (Twilight springs to mind) I can debate with people, respect their counter-arguments, and put forward my own points, and even if no conclusion is reached, respect has been shown.

Racists etc I will treat with barely concealed contempt most of the time, especially the dogmatic variety who won't even debate, then I ignore them, which from a seasoned debater is about the highest form of insult.

Hell nawz. If I were to listen others all the time, I wouldn't get anything done. Although sometimes you just have to shut up and pay attention... sometimes.

(I made an account just to comment on this thread, by the way)

I have such a big problem with this. I've not had any friendships breakdown because of differing opinions, but I do get very frustrated when a friend says something sucks and doesn't allow anyone else to have an opinion.

I think it's arrogant and very immature to act like this. Then again, this is simply an opinion, too. Maybe it comes from what I studied at uni, but I believe there is an element of subjectivity in practically everything. But when it's about matters of taste, about games etc, which I think is the least important thing to be arguing about, then it just makes me sad that people are so bothered by others disagreeing with them.

If two people were arguing about solutions to world hunger, I'd give it some thought and see that there might be a positive outcome. But when it's just some narrow-minded nerds slagging off things that eachother like, then it's just another reason why I wish there was more abortion.
