Do You Automatically Judge Other Users by Their Infraction Meter?

I got off of a 14-day suspension recently, which is my last one before the banhammer comes crashing down on my head. However, out of those 7 infractions, I say about three were for low-content posts and two where for not really posting relevant to the topic. One was for trolling (for what I said about console fanboys ...) and one was for what I said about the moderators and admins at the Steam Users' Forum.

However, if you look at my infraction meter, it seems like I'm some sort of diabolical troll who loves pissing people off and insulting them.

So, my question is: Do you automatically judge others users here based on their infraction meter without much previous knowledge of them?

Also, a question for the mods: Do you guys, the moderators, judge people based on their infraction count? Do you see someone with a high count like me and go, "Ugh, can't wait to ban this ************. [imitating "Dirty Harry"] Come on, punk, say something. Make my day!" or do you just look at things from a stoic point of view?

EDIT: For some reason, the poll appears to be broken. Removing the word "Poll" from the title.

I don't even look at infraction meters, I had forgot about them until I read the thread title, haha. So no I don't.

Nah, it's be stupid to do that. It's just pretty much a way to remind the user themselves how close they are to a banning, although the fact it's public is strange.

No. I rarely ever even look at peoples profiles. I judge people by what they write.

Wow. The first two posters on this topic have the same birthday! :-O What are the chances?

In a way i do.
If, let's say they have got a lot of warnings/ moderator wrath in a short period of time (let's say if you're on the red and still under 100 posts) then i know they won't last long.

However, if they've got a few (2-4) warnings over a 1000 post count, then i know that they're usually good people.

Hell, i've got 2 warnings and one of them i got for a reason which i didn't even know existed!
The other one was for a mis-understanding.

Pretty much, yeah, although only cos most of the people I've come across with insanely high infraction meters turn out to be socially maladjusted turds who only come online to bait me about things. You seem like you might be an exception to the rule though, I'll give you that.

Oh, I have my moments ... >:-}

Yeah, I know what mean, though. Although, I must say that it's strange when I see someone being an idiot/troll and then, when I go on their profiles, they don't even a single infraction.

Not really. I'm still for making the meter private though as I do wonder what most people start wondering about my one warning.

About 1 in 30 I think. There was a whole math formula for some statistics course about people with the same birthdays but I'm pretty sure it was around 1 in 30.

Come across a few of those myself. Needless to say, they usually leave their conversations with me with more infractions than they had going in. I suppose I'm quite good at feeding trolls while remaining within acceptable boundaries of conduct myself. Gift/curse, take it as you will... ^_^

No, I don't. I have two infractions and one was for accusing Nintendo of being lazy (I wasn't very diplomatic) and the other was for low content.

I've never even thought to look at the infraction meter. I kind of assume the system will weed out those that don't belong here naturally, so there really isn't any need to look.

I kind of feel like the system is about to weed you out. I'm unsure how you manage to get that many infractions in such little time. I've never gotten a single infraction in the entire time I've been here... but then again I guess I post at a rate MUCH lower than yourself.

Somehow, I find it hard to believe you had a low content post. XD

I generally don't really check someone's profile. I sometimes do in order to get a better idea of their background so i (kind of) know where they're coming from when i'm replying to them or the topic, but that's about it.

I actually find that the infraction meter tends to be a signifier of popularity more than anything else. I find people who are highly influential in the escapist community tend to have several infractions. One example is the recent perma-banning of MackHeath (for what i consider to be an extremely petulant reason, i might add. He was banned because he wrote on an article that he didn't care about the subject of the article, hardly ban material when the article itself is up for debate on whether it really belongs in the news section or even on this website at all) and another is the banning of HankMan, for those who remember him. He got heavy infractions for his use of puns on every single article comment and little else.

People with low to no infractions tend to fly under the radar of the community. Marter might never have got in trouble but beyond being "that guy who does the $2.50 reviews" he's not always noticeable or even memorable. Yet, it's people like MaxTheReaper, an infamous troll that tend to stick in the mind of the community the most. Take from that what you will.
