It seems statistically unlikely that the circumstances which created us would only ever happen on one planet in one galaxy in the whole universe. However, we still haven't cracked travel over interstellar distances, and for all we know it's flat out impossible, in which case we won't have visitors any time soon. or ever...

What if they're just as bad if not worse? HMM?

Humans are generally good, only a few bad kittens.

Yes, because I find it highly unlikely that Earth is the only planet that can support life in the ENTIRE universe.

Visiting Earth however, I do not believe has happened...yet.

Oh there is life on other planets. It would absurd if there wasn't given the size of the universe. It's just that we will probably never meet them.

I believe in the possibility of alien life existing. I don't believe it has been to Earth. Way I see things there's only 3 scenarios that exist regarding the supposed alien race ranked from most likely at top to least likely at bottom.

1. It's primitive to the point of the primordial soup.
2. It's on a similar evolutionary level to us and incapable of intergalactic travel.
3. It's far more advanced than us and our technology is barely scraping what they have and they're aware of it. Knowing this and studying Earth have decided the planet is still too immesnely stupid to be worth bothering with (to be able to advance to the point of interegalactic travel a species would have to essentially end all wars with itself)

Are there aliens? Almost certainly.

Have they visited Earth? I highly doubt it.

Although if they did they pretty much HAVE to know how to travel faster than light.

The odds of anyone visiting us is low even then, but without it the kind of ridiculous things you'd have to do to travel even a few light-years would mean you'd want to be VERY certain you'd want to go to your chosen destination.

Aside from which, any starship using conventional physics that we already understand on earth would have such a ludicrously high power output that it would be easy to spot even if it was only at the outer edges of the solar system.

Stealth in space is in fact very difficult. So if we've had visitors without it being obvious, they know something very significant about physics that we don't.
Well, we don't know much about physics. We're still trying to figure it out. We've found that once you get small enough, physics, as we understand it, just breaks down. We're probably just barely scratching the surface. Who's to say that intergalactic travel is impossible? Maybe we just need to make the proper discoveries and develop the right technology? Doubt that will happen in my life, but it would be cool.

In other news, I will gladly volunteer for cryogenic freezing until Star Trek or Star Wars. Whichever comes first.
That's true. Although physicists are nonetheless fond of claiming certain rules can't be broken.

(Top of the list being conservation of energy, but the speed of light being an absolute limit is usually a close second.)

I for one hope there are important things we haven't figured out yet, because the prospects for the future of space travel become incredibly depressing otherwise.

I appreciate mantaining an open mind toward the universe's mysteries. Can't know everything.

)rStrangelove]
a.) they have missed us (not unlikely since we're in a remote sidearm of the galaxy)
b.) they are hiding themselves (maybe there's 1 very advanced species out there exterminating everything else, like galactic grasshoppers)
c.) they have seen us but chose to not show up in public yet (very likely)
Based on the evidence we have*, the following statements have just as much merit as the above three.

d.) We are the only life in the universe
e.) Life is so incredibly rare that the communication distance makes it seem like we are the only life
f.) Life is incredibly abundant, but very very few planets develop intelligent life.
g.) Intelligent life is also incredibly abundant, but we all developed the same technology around the same time so none of there signals have reached us.
h.) There were intelligent societies that had very abundant radio waves to listen to... in 100000 B.C.E. and they have all died since then.

Now, I think the probability of intelligent life in the universe is 1, as humanity is, in fact (at least to our standards) intelligent. Do I believe in intelligent life besides Earth? Well, there could be, but we don't have sufficient technology to make a meaningful conclusion.

Do I believe aliens have visited Earth?
No, we have found no remains of alien technology, remains, or anything that would indicate an alien presence here. And unlike finding aliens out there, there's very little room for where there could be alien stuff hiding here so the most reasonable conclusion is that we are not.

What would I ask an alien should I meet one?
1. How did you find us?
2. How long have you been here so that we can hold a conversation so easily?
3. How do you speak our language easily enough that I can understand you?

4. Does P = NP?
5. Do you have a proof for that?

Though it would be more likely that our first meeting would go like this:

Alien: OMG it has intelligence!

Me: Ba wha ah uh hum *faints*

* i.e. none at all.

I think you're thinking in the wrong direction about this one.
Or, quite possibly, you're thinking in the wrong direction about this. Hint [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tongue-in-cheek] Since that's actually a repeat, I'll give you This [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Adams]and This [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy].
Ah ha.

ha.

...

Ignore me, obviously I don't know what I'm talking about.

The population of the universe is 0, thank you for pointing me in the right direction good sir

Yes, aliens probably do exist. Then again it's possible that their civilization has already been destroyed by themselves or their sun or some other natural disaster. They could be the equivalent of cavemen and are just discovering fire or life might not have even begun yet on their little rock.

Yes, I believe in aliens. As a matter of fact, I teach them English on Mondays and Wednesdays. Most of them come from South America.

The most clear and convincing evidence that aliens exist is that none of them have tried to contact us.

You know, even saying that you think the aliens would care enough to destroy us speaks of a supreme kind of arrogance.

I'm reluctant to either ascent to or deny the possibility of aliens because we still don't have a good idea of how often biogenesis occurs in nature. Still, the universe is disgustingly huge, so I'm inclined to answer in the affirmative.

As for aliens visiting earth, I highly doubt it. The same thing which makes me say that aliens probably exist, the utter hugeness of space, is the same thing which makes the chance of contact utterly miniscule.

Edit: So apparently this is my 666th post. Um...Hail Satan?
not really. When we manage to travel the stars we will sow destruction and death across the galaxy. It's a smart move to kill us now.

If the were as bad or worse they would have killed our men, raped our women, and pillaged our land, just like every human race ever has.

As for humans being generally good, that's crap. Humans aren't generally good or generally evil, they are generally selfish. which is not an unreasonable thing, if you think about it.

yes, aliens, time travelers and espers.

:p

((to avoid a warning for low content: realistically, no I don't believe aliens have come to earth, but yeah I'm sure there's bound to be some out there somewhere))

That's like asking if someone believes in gravity. Statistically speaking, it is infeasible to say earth is the only planet in the universe that can support life. You would basically have to use religious beliefs/reasoning to say otherwise.

Thats not to say I believe very-human-looking-little-gray-men are visiting us, I think that's as much BS as it makes itself out to be. But there are probably weird looking things living on a planet so far away, our race will have already gone exciting long before we could reach them.

I definitely believe that they exist. There is no doubt in my mind and there should not be a doubt in the mind of any logical human that there is such a thing as extraterrestrial life. I do believe that aliens visiting earth is doubtful. The shear size of the universe that makes the existence of extraterrestrial life almost undeniable also makes it highly unlikely that any could easily travel here, and even less likely that they would stumble upon our inconspicuous little solar system.

Aliens, oh aliens how they so inevitably exist because we do. The universe constantly repeats itself and all the laws are consistent, so it would only make sense aliens exist.

However, good luck finding them.
