Do you buy at GameStop?

Nope. I just got sick of their atrocious customer service and stupid attitude towards PC games. Seriously, I went in there once and bought a PC copy of Bioshock. The fat fuck behind the counter spent 20 minutes trying to convince me that PC gaming was dead and that I'd be much better off getting a 360. I said no, and he called me stupid, so I told him to go fornicate himself with a wasps nest. And that's hardly an isolated incident. Plus, their PC games library amounts to about half a shelf, of which half of that is taken up by WoW.

I shop at GAME instead. They're cheaper, have better customer service, a bigger PC games range, and their labels actually come off properly instead of sticking to the packaging and leaving that horrible residue, like Gamestop's ones do.

I stopped going to GameNazi (NO GAME FOR YOU!) after I got into PC gaming. I used to always go to GameCrazy, but after MovieGallery declared bankruptcy and all the GameCrazys (and Hollywood Videos) closed down completely, I cried for about 3 days over the loss of th greatest game store in my area (and IMO, anywhere else), then sucked it up and went to GameStop. It was...different, to say the least. I was still in mourning over GameCrazy being gone, but the staff was nice, and the games I got were undamaged, but it just wasn't the same...

I'm thinking Ireland, since that's the only place I can think of off the top of my head where GAME and GameStop stores co-exist. (Unless you're thinking of GameStation, or something).

On topic: I default to GAME. Usually because I can't be bothered travelling 30+ miles down south to a Gamestop when there's a GAME six miles away from me. (Or now, where I'd need to take the plane to get at a GameStop).

Why would I buy a Gamespot? I want games, not poorly-managed and overpriced retail outlets.

occasionally i do,i try not to though if i can't, if the game that im looking for is there, then ill get it from there, as most games i go scavenging for are old and used. however i do check my local store first as they do have slightly better prices on older stuff, i picked up a copy of socom 2 for my roommate there for literally 95 cents. could get a small fry at burger king for that money.

I avoid gamestop I hate shopping there. If I need to sell a game I got to NewBurry Comics. Gamestop sucks and I dont like it how they put there price tag on the inside of the cuver it screws with the cover art which I do enjoy to look at.

I thought the exact same thing.

OT: I buy at an electronics retailer. They have the biggest selection there. Not many game retailers in Greece...

This is a clear no. GameStop still tries to sell Force Unleashed for 69.99?... I don't buy at a place that tries to rob me.
I have now retreated to either buying at shops with reasonable prices or Amazon, as Amazon is always a lot cheaper than most of the shops in my surrounding. Of course it is annoying to have to wait for your stuff, but I'm a student without regular income so sue me.

nope, the local music/movie/games shop got the same games, allows you to pre-order, still has the wrap around the game (as they use "display only" covers, and have the real game in it's real unopened box behind the counter), and of course, sells them CHEAPER.

Very correct. Although I believe Gamestop is establishing in the UK later this year.

I used to buy there, but GAME has better prices, so even though it means a much longer trip there, it's ultimately worth it.

Incidentally, I worked at Gamestop. Don't think that the company makes evil decisions, just stupid ones.

I pretty much have to shop at Gamestop ever since my Gamecrazy got shut down. I would just go to Wal-mart but both of my local Wal-marts are complete crap.

What's wrong with a pre-opened game box, that's in perfect condition?

Have you read the article on it, btw? There's an extremely good, valid reason for it.

I always love the rage about the opened games.
It's not like there's an army of rabid gnomes fornicating on the discs back there. The employees aren't sneezing into all the open clam shells.
It's a loss prevention measure and for the most part it's not even that big of an issue unless you happen to buy the last copy of a game in the store.
Otherwise they'll typically pull an unopened copy from their locked case behind the counter.

Gamestop as a company I don't care about. I visit two locations in my area because the guys who work there are exceptionally good at what they do. They're knowledgeable about the product without being obnoxious hardcore gamer shitheads, they promote the titles worth promoting and know their regulars well enough to recommend games that maybe we haven't heard of or picked up yet.

As for pre-ordering games or movies. It's not like they're the only company that does this and once again it's more of a cost measuring tactic than anything else it's used to measure interest in a title to avoid overstocking a game that won't sell (The added benefit of leashing in a customer to their store to pick up the reservation is an added bonus.)

Yeah, there's never going to be a need to pre-order the new Halo or Final Fantasy games. Those games are sure sellers, but anything other than the hot titles and you do run the risk of not having a copy in your hand unless you pre-ordered.

I tend to be a fan of weird niche market games so I almost always pre-order the stuff I buy, plus in the case of big ticket items like consoles and special editions they're a great way to spread out the payments over the next few months preceding release instead of dropping $100.00+ all at once.

Yeah I buy stuff from them but I'll usually shop around first(luckily Gamestop,Game,HMV and another store called Smyth's are all within a 2 min walk of each other).

Never understood all the hate for GS tbh.I've always found the prices competitive and the staff to be friendly(at least in my local branch). The staff in Game are much pushier about preorders and such(for the last fucking time I don't want to preorder Kinect)

Still, I don't get the big hoo-hah over "gutted" games - the retailer GAME does it in this country and I never knew people objected to it.
I guess in the US we like to be the only ones to touch our NEW product. We like to take off the shrink wrap and get that new game smell the first time the case is opened. We like the smell of the manual.

If the game is in perfect condition (barring not being shrink wrapped) who cares? In fact, shrink wrap can annoy the heck outta me when it won't come off....
Opened is not new, it is used. Once you break the shrink wrap, it is not new and you should be offended to pay the new price for it.

As for the shrink wrap annoying you...oh my..what can I say.

I tend to dispose of the DVD plastic cases anyway, because they take up too much room (but keep all the paper and CDs).
Oh, well see that's something I would never do.

I buy at "GAME" like most european (Or such) should maybe consider doing, I don't like GameStop other than a second option to find used games, "GAME" is more where I got a job at so I get the job discount but now I'm of topic, but no I very rarely buy at "GameStop" Even though it is the closest game store I got.
