Do you care what someone else plays their game on?

I see so many people getting bent out of shape/pissed off online..and in person when you say you play games on [device]. And it really is alarming to me when people you don't play games with or know at all yell at you or lecture you, why you're the scum of society for playing games on the "wrong platform".

I personally don't care about companies or the consoles, just the games themselves. I get the game on the device that gets more features/cheaper price/friends got it on/etc. The only time I get upset at someone at a choice of what device they get a game on is when I wanted to play it with them, but that usually ends up being "You suck man I wanted to play that with you!" followed by a manly arm punch.

The Question: So, BE TRUTHFUL; do you get upset when someone mentions they like gaming on a device? Does it actually bother you? And what makes these things important if you do?

Examples: "I like games on the PC because they look better" or "360 just has a nicer controller" or "Wii has Mario and I love that!"

I don't understand why people get so angry at this. I'm sorry I'm too lazy to build a gaming PC and I just want to sit on the couch.

The Answer: Nope, really couldn't give a shit what other people game on. I might have a few uncharitable words for people who deride my choices in gaming but other than that, why should I give a fuck what other people are doing?

Yes, nothing is more significant in my life than what system other people play their games on. CONFORM TO MY STANDARDS!!!...

....

Seriously though, I find it only natural for people to support what they enjoy and condemn that which others do, provided the two views are any way in opposition. Fanboys may not understand it themselves most of the time, but their cause is valid. If you love something, then theoretically, trying to garner favour for that thing while simultaneously trying to discredit it's competition is a natural means of ensuring that the thing you love thrives within it's market.

Whether it actually works or not is another topic, but the desire to support your product of choice while trash talking anything else is to be expected.

And of course, if it's simply a matter of hating the platform in question for other reasons, then it's always going to be hard to not be disrespectful towards those who willingly choose to use something you see as horrible.

I don't think "upset" is the right word, but how people still use consoles as their primary gaming platform in the year 2011 is just beyond me. I guess I feel... pity when people are willing to play on nothing but a console, and then sit there and steadfastly defend their objectively inferior platform. It's just depressing when people not just settle for mediocrity, but are completely content in it.

I'm not bothered if someone prefers to play their games on a different platform than me, everyone has different tastes, but it does bother me when they think that their platform is obviously the best, and deride every other platform and those who play on them, I don't like those kinds of people. Just because you think your favorite platform is the best doesn't mean you should denigrate the enjoyment of others, it's rude, unnecessary, and it serves no real purpose except to make the person doing the deriding feel smug, and probably make the person being derided hate the platform being foisted upon them even more.

I only care when its what platform my friends are playing a game on, hence so I can play with them, otherwise people can choose what they want. The main thing that annoys me is when people try to force their platform on people.

Oh get off of your pedestal. Playing on a PC does not make you better than other people. No exceptions.

I don't really care what people play on as long as they don't go out of their way to insult me for choosing to play on my platform. Why does it even matter to PC gamers? Yeah, AAA titles have become a bit console focused. You've still got flash games, freeware, and open source games. Console wars in general are fucking retarded, and I am frankly sick and tired of being labeled stupid or something because of the platform I play on. Don't people hate it when the media labels us? Then why do we label each other? It makes no sense, and I'm fucking tired of it. Who's with me?

(sigh) This again.........

OT: Only if it involves the people I play with often, then we will usually try and get the same games and system. I just hate it when people (not pointing a finger or anything... cough cough) go out of their way just to make sure everyone knows that PLATFORM X IS DA BEST!!!1!!1111!!!!

I hate it when people play online games on xbox 360 because they are paying microsoft money for a service that is free on all other platforms. It sets a bad precedent for how online multiplayer services should be handled and says its ok to deny online multiplayer unless we pay money for a middleman general online gaming service that doesn't provide money to the people who make the games that you are playing.

That is my personal dislike for that business practice when such paid services are not required and shouldn't be required for PC, PS3, and Wii. I don't hate the individual people who do play on Xbox live but the general collective of consumers giving up money for a completely unnecessary "fee".

For the actual intent of the topic I don't care if people play there games on the 360, PS3, PC, Mac, Ipod, smart phone, paper, tabletop, board, or whatever they want to game on.

Well it kinda bugs me that so many of my friends seem to have moved from their 360s to their PS3s because I play mostly on the 360 so I have less people to play with. But other than that one specific instance, I couldn't care less what others do or don't do. Their life, their choices.

I like what I like and that is enough. End of story.

I agree with you 100 percent. Im not a fan of pc, mainly because im not technically inclined enough to optimize my computer to run the games, and ive never been a fan of using a keyboard and mouse for gaming. I grew up with consoles. Its what I'm used to and its what I like. Does the console have short comings? Yes. But so does pc. But I dont go around saying it sucks because I dont like it. Nor do i say consoles are better. Its just what I like to spend my time with.

Not so much anymore. I had a friend who used to get a bunch of games for the PS3, which is (of course) not compatible with my PC for multiplayer goodness. That problem has since solved itself.

I bet you change your story the first time a child tries playing noughts and crosses/tic-tac-toe on your toilet wall with their own shit.

No. I don't see the point in getting upset over it.

I have a PS3 myself and a comp, but I will buy the vast majority of my games on the PS3 because I don't need to worry about PC requirements.

I have nothing strongly against the 360, I've just had bad experiences. I have played on the Wii a bit, but it's not my thing.

I will possibly get a 360 but it's not high on my priorities.

I just assume anybody who isn't open to playing on any system isn't much of a video game lover. I play video games on any available platform because I love video games. It's like disliking an amazing movie because it's being shown on a Toshiba TV instead of a Sony, it makes no sense.

I figure anybody trumpeting one platform as the "only needed option" is simply unfortunate enough to not have as much money as me, sour grapes an all that.
