Do you consider "shit" offensive?

Throughout the years of my life, I've heard a wonderful array of colorful language from a wide variety of people. But the number 1 word that stood out among everything is shit. "I hate that shit!", or "Do you have the shit?", or "This shit is cold." are a few examples of this word. Having heard it so much, I don't even think twice about using it in social company, unless at the dinner table or in the presence of relatives or small children. What do you think?

I don't care as long as it's not uttered every bloody sentence. Over-use makes things annoying.

I think more like that about "crap". I've used it multiple times in mixed company and never thought of it as offensive (to my knowledge, anyway).

Not once in a while, but someone who says it every 3rd word earns my displeasure

I often use that swear word. If it is offensive or not depends entirely on context really.

I only find shit offensive if it is actual shit and is rubbed in my face. Other than that I swear quite often.

This, but with every "colourful" word. i mean, as long as it fits the context, thats fine. otherwise your just like a 10 year old, thinking your awesome by saying a tabooed word over and over.

As far as offensive language goes, "shit" is the mild chili sauce.

Apply swear words delicately and they're fine. Dump a pile into a conversation and they aren't quite as much fun.

Anyone who chooses to get offended over a single word, rather than the way they are put together is a fool in my books.

I use it in a variety of contexts, even at the dinner table. But never around children, as for some absurd reason, uptight people still frown on that. Makes zero sense; what's the difference between a "shithead" and a "booger-farmer"? Not a thing.

I find it somewhat crude when it is used unnecessarily, although one of my most used phrases last year was referring to something as "the shit"

Only offensive if overused, used badly (such as that pointless "this shit is cold") or left lying on the ground where I'm planning on walking.

Well since it doesn't directly apply to me and is rarely used with the intention of offending me, no. But when someone uses it like it's a comma it annoys the shit out of me. (See what I did there?)
