Do you ever get the feeling that your games are just fucking with you?

When a game forces you to manually travel an excessively long distance, do something of absolutely miniscule significance, and trek all the fucking way back, I take that as a sign that it hates me and wants me to hurt myself.

Most of KotOR is like this, come to think of it. Pretty much all of the Taris level is. Mass Effect has a lot of moments like it too.

I think the first Mass Effect was full of that, but Mass Effect 2 didn't had that problem.
Actually at M.E. I had a problem with the level design and I'd get lost many times not knowing where exactly I should go and what exactly I should do.
M.E. had so many places to go that where empty and I would end up walking long distances for nothing.
But M.E.2 solved that problem.

Years ago, during vanilla WoW (as in, before the release of the first expansion), I was trying to get my first dungeon tier for my Druid. It consisted out of gloves, helmet, shoulder-armor, chest-piece, leggings, bracers and boots. Every item was located in a different dungeon, with the RNG (Random Number Generator) system deciding which item drops of which boss.
I do all the dungeons, I almost every item within a few tries, but the boots...the booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooots! Not only did they drop from one of the last bosses in a freaking crazy long dungeon, but they also never ever dropped.

It took me about 120 tries (not even kidding), over a time span of 4 months to get the boots.
World of Warcraft has it's own way of messing with you.

X-COM: UFO Defense. The entire goddamn game.

Squad member rounds a corner, gets one-shotted by an alien's reaction fire. Position your soldiers to breach a door, alien fires a blaster bomb and kills everyone. Order a soldier to fire on an alien, misses every shot. Alien mind control always seems to target your soldiers with the weakest bravery. You're having a great month, only to have a Snakeman or Ethereal terror mission 25 days in.

And I wouldn't have it any other way.

I've never played the sequel Terror from the Deep, but I've heard that one's even more sadistic.
You just inspired me to buy a copy of this game. I love sadistic game mechanics.

Devil survivours Beldr boss battle

This son of a ***** pissed me off so much when I first fought him
First there is a craptton of guys you have too fight before you can even reach beldr who is invulnerable to evreything except one physical attack (good luck if you specialise in magic) and most of these guys can completely heal themselves so that any turn spent not killing anyone is wasted. Secondly evrey 3 or so turns beldr uses an attack that attacks evreyone in your party that has unlimited range AND only one guy in your party can abuse beldrs special weakness. Looking at this I decided that I would need to do ALOT of level grinding.
So after 2 hours worth of level grinding I start the battle again and manage to actually reach beldr. So I intiate combat with him and use the only attack hes weak against expecting it to do massive damage and...it does so little that it doesnt even matter because he instantly heals anyway. So after another hour of level grinding I did the boss again and finally maaged to kill him off with one guy left...and my DS decided to crash right as I killed him

Fuck

Oblivion. Specifically, a modded version, containing the mod "Gem Hammer".

You have NO FUCKING IDEA How many months (yes, months) I waited outside alchemy shops for them to stock Master Essence Extractor / Purifiers.

Don't get me started on Runescape, either. Anyone who's tried to get a Raven Egg before they could show up from that Kingdom Management thing knows - EXACTLY - what I'm talking about.

I've had a couple of games of Duels of the Planeswalkers where because of the AI, it adopted my tactic late-game: Sit back and do fuck all until you army is enough to wipe out your opponent doing 20+ overkill damage.
Ooh, good call! Magic DOTP is a GREAT example of a game fucking with you! I know it's possible to physically shuffle a deck and chance on tons of mana being at the top, but fuck it all, it seems every third hand, I end up playing "real estate tycoon" while my opponent systematically lays down every 4/4 and 5/5 card in their deck. Or the REVERSE! I get dealt every badass card in my deck, but mana is so scarce, I end up discarding half of 'em because the two mana cards I've seen in my past 10 turns aren't enough to cast any of them; nevermind that my opponent has been picking away at my life with a friggin' 1/1 I can't block because I can't cast ANY creatures!

Borderlands.

Boasts something like 16 million supposedly randomized weapon spec combinations, yet every gun seems to to balanced to have one stat boosted and another complete shit; you NEVER find the perfect combination: High power? No scope. Scope? Shitty power. Elemental effect? Sweet! Accuracy? Ass. And forget about trying to find the holy grail of the perfect combination of power, accuracy, fire rate, elemental effect AND zoom! Will. Not. Happen. What ensues is a 69 level grind of picking up and dropping the same four guns with slightly different specs. And just when you get a decent gun, you level up and the same four guns that got you this far now, at best, cause minor skin irritation because the baddies level up with you; your search for guns starts over. It's not so much the advertised "Gun Porn" as it is just painful marathon masturbating to the view through a gun store's front window. I carried 15 SMGs because each had one decent spec; if I could only find a way to get them to form Voltron or some shit...
...I really liked looking for new guns in Borderlands, I'm in the process of collecting one of every legendary and I've found some great guns along the way (I actually keep a spreadsheet of orange guns i do and don't have on my desktop). I agree SMGs always have something wrong with them. I'm a pistol/revolver aficionado (all the legendary revolvers, all but one of the legendary repeaters/machine pistols).

Borderlands is one of my favorite games because of the collecting of randomized guns; you never know what you will find and there will always be something new.
I like the gun search too; I don't keep a spreadhseet, so clearly I don't love it as much as you do, but I do enjoy the search, I juts HATE that I've never found a go-to gun, one worthy of my +5 days of playtime! Have you found any of the Pearlescent weapons?!? Yeah, I've heard their drops are so rare, it'd make your head spin; I don't even COUNT those amongst the guns I hope to find one day, they're the fucking Loch Ness Monster of gaming...

I Wanna Be The Guy. That game was made to do nothing but fuck with you. You spend an hour trying to get past a single screen, you succeed at getting past all these fucking spikey things through perfectly timed jumps....only for the pattern to change completely about midway through and kill you. And then it does it three more times. I got a total of nine screens. I hate that game with such a passion.
It's definately a game that infinitely more fun to watch someone else play rather than playing it yourself XD

I have decided it's actively trolling the player (unlike Super Meat Boy, that game just fucking hates you with a passion.)

There's this one part where you need to jump through some spikes to turn off a fan, get back through the spikes and when you try and double jump through the now inactive fan Ryu from Streek Fighter comes out of nowhere and spin kicks you

U mad bro?

Oh and since this is I Wanna Be The Guy we're talking about i should say...

APPLES DO NOT FALL UP
Actually their more like giant cherrys =D

There's a certain point in Assassin's Creed II where you have to make a particular jump.

It's not a hard jump, pretty similar to the 11,045 or so that you will already have made.

However...

Right in the middle of the jump the camera swings around, causing your left input to become right. Ezio promptly falls in a puddle, making you start the obstacle sequence over again. It's completely beyond your control and happens every damn time.

I honestly think someone at Ubisoft did it as a prank. "Complain about our DRM will you, you whiny little bitches? A few spazzy cameras will shut you up!"
Yes! I don't know who possibly could have thought it was a good idea.. That was the only bad thing about the Assassins' tombs.

Dragon Age 2.
When you have to
do something to restore that mirror.
When you get into the cave, 3 spiders spawn. After they're dead, 3 poisonous spiders spawn. For those who don't know, poisonous spiders can spit venom as a projectile attack.
I ended up running through the cave to get to the boss fight only to have my entire party (save my character) drop dead from even MORE spiders along with the main fucking boss spider.
Oh, and another 5 spiders spawn on the way to the boss. These ones usually chase me into the boss area.

Unfortunately, I like the game enough to want to see it through. That's why I'm getting rid of the PS3 version, getting the PC version and using cheats to get past that one damn mission.

I have always found revolvers to be the most flexible of any of the guns in the game. I have several go to guns that i usually carry and pretty much all of them are revolvers. As for pearlescents they are ridiculously difficult to find. Pretty much all i do now that I'm the max level is go hunting for weapons with friends and I have found one. It was a shield and the stats are pretty terrible on it. There was another time when I was with a friend and he found a pearl rocket launcher but rocket launchers are kind of useless. I hope to find Pearlescents but I never expect to because they are almost impossible to find.
I don't know what build you are or what level but the Pestilent Defiler (orange revolver) and the Atlas Chimera (orange revolver) are both very flexible all rounders.

I got that feeling one time from Black Ops Nazi Zombies, but I was super high...

Some friends and I were playing spilt screen and I was tripping balls, which means my friends were playing spilt screen and I was shooting at the zombies on the ceilling. I'd look at my screen and it'd look like an MC Esher painting, not joking, then I'd look at a friend's screen and it'd be all normal. I tried to vocallize "Wow Black Ops, fucking with the guy whose out of it," but it came out more, "Woow um...oh are we still playing Black Ops?"
Good times.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 likes to screw with me some times.

How? Because some days, on every. damn. server. I connect to I end up joining the team that is already getting absolutely pounded into the ground before I even start playing, making the whole endeavor completely useless.

Every god damn time...

Oblivion was also kind of like that, where you pick up a fork in an abandoned house and then every Imperial Guard ever comes out of nowhere to arrest you.
At moments like that you catch 'em. No need to fight on when they're weak enough for a Pokeball. Then again that doesn't do much in gym fights, where that somehow seems to happen most often...

Friend of mine raided Karazhan for almost a year to get some healing mace from that big female statue. It was the best Paladin healing mace for a long long time, well up to Black Temple. I don't think he ever actually got it, even after killing that ***** a couple hundred times.

YES! OH MY GOD YES! I thought I was the only one! I kid you not, for about 3 months straight I would ALWAYS hop into a server on the shittiest team. EVERY GOD DAMN TIME. I didn't win a single game in a 3 month period even though I worked my ass off in each match. But noooo. I got stuck with a bunch of incompetent newbies every game.

.....whooo. I need a nap.

I think I know the part you're talking about. Is it where you have to pull some switch and run to the gate before it closes again? The camera there was so messed up.

I remember having to pull myself up onto a ledge, but the game wouldn't let me do that unless Ezio's back was to the camera, so I had to awkwardly shimmy around to another part of the ledge just because the crappy camera was locked in place.

I've just been using a Shotgun+Shotgun*+SMG+Launcher Combo here, it works pretty well too.
