A lot of times in Just Cause 2. That game is just so awesome. Demon's Souls as well.

it's very rare I get that feeling.
Normally if I have bothered to go and buy or otherwise obtain a new game, it'll start out "Yeah this is pretty good", then interest will trail off and I am left with about 30 half finished games that I'll probabley never get round to finishing.
They just seem unable to hold my interest anymore. Can't really explain why, it's not something that's just in my personality I have several long running interests, just can't seem to find the love for games like I used to.

When I drop kicked a helicopter out of the air in [PROTOTYPE] and used it's smouldering remains to wave down a horde of soldiers and a tank.

The Just Cause 2 demo, I have over seven hours on it. I don't know about getting the full game, though, I probably will.

Oh boy do I ever remember Xmas the year Pokemon Red and Blue launched. I wanted to show EVERYONE that my Bulbasaur had just evolved that afternoon.

I think my family was too drunk to care, but they humored me all the same.

I went on like that for the next few days, hooked up to my gameboy like it was a lifeline.
That was awesome.

Very rarely. Most recently Bayonetta, before that in Disgaea when you had to fight all the candidates for the demon throne.

Prototype, and also Just cause 2.
That game was made for "OMIGOSH DID YOU GUYS SEE THAT" moments.
I second that

Add the first modern warfare when I first played the prologue and you've got urself a complete list. So far...

Devil May Cry 3. I remember smiling thinking "Holy shit, this is awesome" during the final boss fight, even though I was getting my ass handed to me.

Mega Man Zero 3. Yet another game that gives you a character with all kinds of sweet moves and weapons, yet still kicks your ass. Being able to dash-jump off a wall at an enemy and cleave it in two with a lightsabre is all kinds of awesome. Shield Boomerang is awesome too. Z-Sabre + Shield Boomerang = Jedi Captain America

Contra 3. The weapons are well-balanced, the controls are flawless (the "stand still and aim" button comes very much in handy), the two-gun system means you're not completely screwed over when you die (because you get to keep the gun you didn't have equipped when you die), the weapons are well balanced (even the default machine gun has its uses) and the game is freaking HARD. But not in a cheap way. Any game that can give you a gun that shoots RAPID-FIRE HOMING MISSILES with infinite ammo and STILL kick your ass is doing something right.

In conclusion, cool moves/weapons + challenging but fair difficulty + the number 3 at the end of the title = Awesome.

Prototype: elbow drop an helicopter and then slice a tank in half!

Just Cause 2: Hook a jeep to a plane taking off then load the jeep with C4 and windsurf into a military base.

Modern Warfare 2: the entire single-player. period.
