I always wish I would have been born before World War II and been about 18 years old when the war started.

Hell no. This era is FANTASTIC.
We fly on multi-ton vehicles, most of us have cars that can drive over 100 MPH, we cna construct objects so small you can't see them, we fly in space and send objects hurtling to other planets.

Out of all the periods of history so far, the quality of life in this one is by far the best, and continues to improve. So, not really.
I am not saying that this era is not great by any means I completely agree with you about all the technology I find it fascinating I just like the lifestyle of the old days where everything was much more simple. Plus if you were born back before technology was HUGE you wouldnt know what you were missing.

Hmmm... I might wish to be born in a future era. One where there is a cure for aging and natural death. Yay longevity! Other than that I might wish to have been in the army during WWII so that I could have wielded super awesome flamethrowers and burned stuff. Yay fire!

Yes, I wish I was born in time to still explore the world, and specifically be around during the "golden age" of Piracy. Either that or I wish I was born much later than now when we make first face to face contact with an alien species, or have the capability to travel in space. Essentially I just wish there was somewhere new to go and vastly undiscovered.
Edit: As for living in the past if I did die of some horrible disease that we have a cure for now I think I would be ok with that in trade for a life at sea.

Here's the thing. I'm a person of color, and also trans...and also grew up working class.
So, no matter romantic various eras might seem, I always remember that it would have really sucked for me to actually have been there.
I remember being in class teaching Music History--I think I was teaching the 1920s...which in many ways was quite cool...and a student said, wouldn't it be great if we were in the 1920s right now? And I responded, well then none of the women or people of color would be here, because this school didn't go co-ed until year X and didn't start admitting people of color until year Y.
The 80s being cool? I lived through the 80s and the complete nuclear panic was not cool.
The 50s cool? Jim Crow Segregation would suck.
The 20s cool? Not all the lynching.
Anytime before the 1920s? I'd not be able to transition, and living female would mean I couldn't vote or have hardly any rights.
Farther back? If you weren't rich, your life sucked--and very often you didn't even have any human rights or the ability to leave your serfdom.

If you've heard the veterans talking, especially those that were involved in intense combat they were just put in situations they had no control over and had to deal with it, and a load of them never made it back. Not to mention, the European and Pacific/Asian War was really nasty, are you talking as an American, or even a British person, because we got it relatively easy.
How about being Eastern European? They didn't exactly have a good time of it, not to mention the holocaust etc..
That wasn't meant to come out like that superv but yeah, from the history books, films etc it sounds great, don't think it was great if you were there.
OT (finally!): It would have been fascinating to accompany the 1st crusade, not that I agree with the mentalist escapade that it was. Just to see what it was really like Byzantine empire at the time and so on..
