Do you ever wish you were born in a different era?

Absolutely, I wish I lived in the classical period of history (800 BC-400ish AD) in pretty much anywhere in the Mediterranean, but my top two choices of locations would be ancient Greece or Rome itself.

How amazing would it be to witness firsthand the vibrancy, optimism, and intellectual vigor of Athens? The sprawling civilization and empire of the scions of Aeneas?

Does anyone else ever feel like reading about classical civilization makes the contemporary world seem terrible?

Totally wouldnt mind going back to the era where everyone just had sex with each other and no one gave a shit about STDs or getting pregnant or anything at all.

So like 2010.

I often feel like I've been born on the cusp of greatness. We're closing in on the time when technology and science can take mankind to godlike levels, maybe even defeat death...it makes me kinda bitter I might have been like 20 years too early for immortality or something like that...

That said, I doubt I would have this many great friends in the future so...a good run compared to a terrible eternity?...

I kinda wish I was born maybe 10 to 20 years earlier (1969~1979). That way I still get to grow up with the awesome advent of technology but my whole life isn't completely ruled by it. I know it would suck to not have the internet, but people back then were able to live without it. And I really hate how PC our world has become.

Plus, the 80's just seemed friggin' awesome.

I wish i was born in the far future. If i have learnt anything about studying the past, the future tends to be better. The most rational choice is then to aim for the far future and hope that civilization hasn't collapsed.

If I can choose to be amongst the privileged classes, I'd like to be born 150-200 a bit years ago. If not, I'm not going to find anything better.

Quality of life in the world is trending upwards so quickly that it's folly to want to be born at any time in the past. If I had been born 3 days earlier, I could vote in this year's Canadian election, but I'd rather see 3 days further into the future. I often wish I was born 50 years, or 1000 years in the future, but I'd never wish to be born far into the crappy past.

I rather enjoy this era I just wish I was born somewhere a bit more... modern.
Actually if I could go back to an era with all the knowledge I have at the moment I would totallllly do it just so I could blow peoples minds. Can you imagine if a white guy made the final fantasy series, Zelda, Mario or anime? or if one guy made all at once electricity, light bulbs, and gas powered engines? Or if one guy went back in time and was able to say all the major wars that point forward, would happen from there and what would cause them?
As for being BORN in a different era I would mind about 12 years before the medieval ages started, then I would probably have started training to use a sword as they started and when they really got off the ground I would get to participate weeeeeeeeeee

I wish I was raised in the 80's. I mean, I was born in the 80's, but I only got to live a year or two of my life in them and I was too little to remember anything. And I hate that, beacuse the 80's were a great time period. Great movies, good cartoons and anime, excellent music, awesome games...entertainment was really at its peak at the time.

Ok, sure, the fashion sense was kind of bizzare, if not outright hilarious, but that would be a small price to pay.

I wish I had been born in 1968. Just for the music: growing up when the Beatles were at their peak and Led Zeppelin was a crazy new band. And when 1980 comes around, metal. Metal everywhere and I would revel in it. Also, NES.

Witty Name Here said:
Probably the early colonization of America, you had had a vast and untamed wilderness to the north, natives to trade with, plenty of animals to hunt, and nice clean air and water.

Either that or the Golden Age of Piracy (around the 1650's is when it started I believed), what can I say? I missed out on some good ol' fashioned pillaging and plundering.
Rape and murder. Yay!

Why yes, I did come to this thread just to point out that piracy was generally the not at all glamorous lifestyle of soldiers that became obsolete, and now had to resort to being criminals.

If I was born in 1970 I could have seen all my favourite bands before they started sucking.
And I could have seen Nirvana.

I'm perfectly fine right now. Communications between countries, technology, everything is just awesome compared to a mere decade ago.
