I don't disrespect my countries flag, so no. I used to, then those useless beurocrats in washington fucked up our country, so that all changed (By the way, i'm american, just so you know)

Personally, I kind of understand when people get angry because their flag has been burned or destroyed as a deliberate 'fuck you', but your example of getting angry when you see a flag that is merely in disrepair seems a little bit much to me.

I'm an American, and I don't respect our flag. Not only am I not particularly proud of my country, I don't really get into the whole "attaching great meaning to a rectangle of cloth" thing. I just don't care.

I find it a little weird when anyone gets really angry over disrespect over a country's symbolism (Unless the symbol is a living thing).
Like.. If someone were to insult the royal family, I don't think I'd get mad, but that could be because on most comedy shows, people just rip into the royal family like mad. Maybe just having people poke fun at and critique your country's symbols is a good thing, as it stops you from getting worked up over nothing.

It truely baffles me the amount of.... emotional investment people put into their countrys' flag. You can go on and on about how many people died for what the country, but how many of those people died for what your country represents NOW? Example, Americans (Just because its the best example of the severe patriotism and where this reason is given most), yes your flag is a symbol of the people who died in the civil war, the rebellion against the british and all the rest, but is your country now what those people fought to protect and create? Is it the bastion of light and freedom it was suppose to be?

Over hundreds of years, the wars we have had have been pretty plentiful and varied, so could I sum all the deaths in the name of our flag as because of my country? No, because my country no longer holds those ideals really, and so is not that country anymore.

I dont mind particularily, but then I dont attribute many meanings to the flag. I can only really see it as a symbol for the unification of England, scotland and wales under the crown, and if someone disagrees with that then that might annoy me slightly. Carelessness doesnt bother me particularly though, perhaps because I see that as part of the britian the flag stands for.

No, I think it's a bit of stupid hing to get worked up about, it is after all, a flag.

I live in Quebec, disrecpecting the Canadian flag is like a national passtime. That said, no real feelings either way, I find patriotism and jingoism to run too close together for my taste.

OT: I was in the US Navy stationed in England. Protests were held outside base every week (Tuesdays if I remember correctly). Every week I saw the American flag stepped on, written on, and otherwise disrespected. I had no problems with it, and I still don't.
When someone decides to burn or otherwise disrespect a US flag, I take it as a victory. I served in the Navy to support and defend the rights and freedoms of my fellow Americans. If someone chooses to use that right to protest by using the flag in a horrible way, then let them. It is their right. The right I worked to defend. Whether they are American or not.
