It's even worse when it finally sinks in that they are wrong, and rather than having the courage to admit it, they then say something like "Who cares anyway?" or "I was only joking" even when they clearly did and they weren't.

Then of course if you point out that fact everybody makes it seems like you are the one being argumentative.

Which is why I normally avoid any arguments and just shut my mouth if people are starting to head in that direction.

Lesson learned for next time, I'm not even gonna bother next time...

But I guess i deserve it, for opening my big gob trying to explain that there are categories of instruments the voice being included as wind for a Capella music and the human body as percussion for obvious reasons escapes those who like dance... the funny thing is dance was once written and performed live... with guitars ... :\

I don't know... people just flat out do not believe you need an instrument to create music... so I'm gonna go flying with a pizza because the purple dinosaur told me my crab juice was getting loose.

Dude, chill. We're pretty much saying that there are more instruments out there. If the body can be classified as percussion, the computer synthesizer stuff can be classified as something else. Or all of it. We could have found a 5th group of instruments. That's a great thing!

Now that I have some context on this thread, I thought I might contribute my 2 cents in this "music debate." You stated in the dubstep thread that we cannot have "musical anarchy." Why not? Musical anarchy is fun! Music has no strict guidelines, and that makes me happy. Also, do you really think that dubstep are pure musical chaos? HA! You're so ignorant it's funny. Going off of what the OP said, I will say that the professors at my college greet everyone on the first day with a smile and a syllabus that clearly states "Wikipedia does not count as a source, DO THE RESEARCH" and goes into further detail by saying "Even if sources are cited on Wikipedia, because of its free-edit and open nature, you cannot be 100% sure someone didn't go by and vandalize the page you referenced."

Honestly, people who try to gain intelligence in the court of public opinion end up being the villege idiot of the day.

More to the point, I do not argue with people, if someone has a different opinion, thats cool, but if we are talking facts/factoids and the like then I clearly state where I had heard/read the topic of discussion. If I am proven wrong, no harm done, and if I am right, well then they learned something interesting that usually is a 'ah, neat' moment more than an 'ARG I AM WRONG'

I never post on this forum, but when I saw this thread on the side of Zero Punctuation I just had to chime in. I see that this whole thing was born out of the OP trying to tell people that dubstep isn't music and getting butthurt over people disagreeing with his incredibly limited textbook definition. Well here's some examples of how I really don't think it can be argued that dubstep isn't music.

If you're used to hearing that screechy, noisy Skrillex/Doctor P bullshit then I can understand you'd be skeptical, but trust me, those are awful examples of dubstep. Some people wouldn't even call them dubstep. If you love music give these a go, you might be surprised

I flagged every one in which he called Vault some permutation of 'retarded' which was most of them, really. He has since expressed that he doesn't really care about getting banned. I guess insulting people is more important to him?

I put little faith in even a civil formal debate of changing the other debaters mind. But when there is a audience in the end it doesn't matter if you change the other debaters minds but rather can get through to the audience. This is why it is worth it because someone who comes in unsure of the answer and has yet to make up their mind can see both sides and choose what they feel is correct. I simply try to reach those people and bring them to what I believe is truly right.

You might know they are wrong, but they don't. So you must explain to them why they are wrong, and point out the logical flaws in their argument. If you cannot it may be you who are wrong. Unless it is an opinion, then they cannot be wrong or right.
