Depends on what you mean by 'casual.' I consider all the mini-game nonsense to be casual games, because there's no depth to them. And lets face it, its those 4 games that really moved some Wii's.
My point is just that about 99% of the titles considered "casual" aren't even made by Nintendo, other than rethoric and a very small number of titles they have done nothing for the "casual" gamer yet people act like Nintendo is making nothing but "casual" games. How many minigame collections were made by Nintendo? Wii Sports (which was more of a tech demo for the system), Wii Play (a tutorial for the controller) and Wario Ware (has been around since the GBA), maybe Wii Fit if you count that as games. Just counting the big titles, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Zelda TP, SSBB and Mario Kart you get more core games than "casual" games so why do people act like Nintendo has shifted all of its production away from the core? That's not even the complete list of core games they made for the Wii while the list of "casual" games is pretty much complete. They make 2-3 times as many core as "casual" games! Except for rhetoric I don't see any real focus there. Yes, Nintendo isn't making many core games but that's mostly because they are one company that has to make games for two systems and simply can't make that many games. I don't think they're making fewer games than during the GC period. Of course they're not going to produce a PS2-level library alone, noone can do that!

What's missing is a decent output from third parties who don't seem to be interested in making anything serious for the Wii as if the thing was still in the last place like the Gamecube. The Wii is half the console market now! What does it tell you when the big anticipated (or recently released) games for a system are published by a has-been (Sega) and developed by teams that didn't even exist before? What are the big publishers even doing? Oh, right, racking up losses with games like Mirror's Edge.
Mirror's Edge was a chance. Aren't you criticizing publisher's for NOT taking those?

MY point is that the 1% of games that you mentioned is what made the Wii big. You think it's the core games that really sold Wiis? And yes, Nintendo IS making core games, but that's the problem. Nintendo's core games will sell no matter what (not to say this isn't the same for all the console companies to some degree, but Nintendo is infamous for it).

Further, I haven't played ALL of Nintendo's releases for the Wii (really, only Twilight Princess and SSBB), but from what I've seen and played, they're all just copy and pastes of the same old formula. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Nintendo fan (conservatively), and I would LOVE to see them start some new franchises. But I can't see Nintendo ever doing that.

While we're on the subject, I would like to point that it IS hard to make a Wii game feel organic, and like I said earlier, there are some good third party games out there (again,Okami. Love that game) that do that. And these companies know that. You can't expect companies just to whip up high-quality games for the Wii for the sake of your argument. Motion sensing controls are (from my experience) buggy, and therefore, inherently flawed. It's always nice to see innovation, but not JUST for its own sake. I've had control issues with both Twilight Princess and No More Heroes, so it seems to me that its not just an isolated problem. And don't get me started on SSBB; its doesn't even USE motion sensing at all. Unless you count the smash option, but if you do count that, then you're really stretching.

Last point: I don't think it's reasonable to use the Wii's success as some kind of point in the failure of the third party developers making games for it. I do hope you see why.

And the same with the game Red Steel, I had that and that has potential too.
Hopefully the Motion+ thingy should help with those issues in Red Steel 2. Apparently that's going to have much better swordsplay, where the sword actually follows the position of your Wiimote.
Hey, if they just take their time for once then maybe.

Wii... that sounds familiar... oh the thing that's been collecting dust since Super *Make Money* Brothers Melee came out? Yeah, I bought MadWorld for it, still haven't played it. It's an overrated system with a bunch of shovelware, marketed towards old people and non-gamers. I've officially lost all respect for Nintendo.

I don't really hate it... tho the major failing in this system is not enough games over the Teen rating, heck even those rare among the sea E-rated games in the library that are completely coming out every half-month or so...

The reality is that the PS3's of me and my friends are sitting in the dark, gathering cobwebs, because not even Killzone 2 could keep us playing it long enough to care about it.
My stance on the Wii is I don't exactly hate it, it just clearly wasn't designed for me. The PS3 expresses a similar problem. It mostly plays games I can play on a different console (where I actually don't resent my controller), and has thus far handed me little more than a cavalcade of mediocrity with a few brief and shining moments of hope in it's exclusive lineup.

That said, the only thing that keeps me from using a system is the game lineup. The Wii so rarely delivers anything I actually care about that it mostly exists to provide some airspace between my 360 and my PS3.

If I had bought the Wii for myself, I would be slightly disappointed. However, I bought it for my family and the thing is awesome in that respect. My son and I have a blast with it while my wife pretends to show some interest until she feels like Wii bowling again. ;-)

I got mine for Christmas just gone, haven't found a game that really screams at me. So it's been sat on my desk since I completed Tomb Raider (came free with wii) just collecting dust.

I look at the thing like a hypothetical child who ran amok with the high school druggies, failed school and now lives on my sofa. I look at it and see all the potential... Then cry myself to sleep over it failing so miserably.

I love mine to bits. ^_^ Haven't even bothered looking at XBox 360 and PS3 until recently (was able to get a used 360 with tons of bells and whistles for only 200 Canadian). With the exception of stuff like Rock Band, Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect, the Wii pretty much had everything I wanted in a console (well, not so many JRPGs, but I have a PS2 for that). And I haven't even gotten into the Virtual Console yet... I suspect that will make it even better (I know its XBox equivalent Marketplace is intriguing me so far)

EDIT: Should note that the thing the Wii really excels at is party games, getting a bunch of people together and playing SSBB or Rayman Raving Rabbids or what have you. Haven't played enough of the XBox 360 to know if it's as good that way, but my friend who works at EB games says there's less emphasis on local multiplayer and more on online multiplayer... great, except I love to game with my RL friends. XD

No, I don't actually. I hate that there's a whole lot of junk games and the only good games from from Nintendo which isn't putting anything out right now, but I don't hate the Wii itself.

I do not hate my Wii per-say but there are some features I wish were improved. The motion stuff needs improvement badly. its either too sensitive or not sensitive enough. When I play metal of honor, its almost impossible to reload on command. I just got used to running out of bullets and letting the game make me reload. Another improvement should be more choices for your characters. The Xbox 360 took the same idea and made it a lot cooler with tons of options, why can't the Wii do that?

I love that little system. Even if there aren't as many actual Wii games that I like for the system, the Virtual Console more than makes up for it. It's a good way for me to get some older games I never got a chance to get for my SNES(and other consoles I never owned) without having to pay $50 per cartridge on E-Bay for some of the rare games. And now that Nintendo has finally allowed us to play our Virtual Console games/Wii channels off of the SD card, I can't think of anything bad to say about it really. Between Metroid Prime 3, and Lords of Thunder(TurboGrafx), I have hardly touched my 360 for a while now.

Only thing I don't like about it is that this system has so much potential for something great, but Nintendo is going where the money is, the casual market.

i hate the wii for one point only. it is the first console that is movement sensored and yet there are very very few games out that use this new idea to its advantage. many if not most wii games are not unique to the console and can be played on the 360,pc or ps3.Games that take advantage of the wiis abilities such is Okami, Mario and Sonic and rayman raving rabits are few in number. This is the only thing that makes me hate the wii so much. Infact the only reason i have keept my wii and not soled it is because of the games mentioned above, and that i love zelda games and shootem ups games such as RE:the umbrella chonices and house on the dead 1 & 2.

p.s please forgive me for my poor spelling and grammar mistakes

It has Super Smash Brothers Brawl.

That is all. (Oh, and the Conduit doesn't look to bad either.)

I love my wii.

Now I do much of my gaming on a PC, but I have a 5 year old and the wii is perfect for her. Additionally, the wife and I rock out to Rockband2 on the wii. So the family is certainly getting enjoyment out of it.

Before my Wii was stolen, it was my favorite console I owned. I like the 360 more now, but if someone maybe took the Wii's massive potential and made a game that uses it, I would like it more. I hear Madworld does just that rather nicely.
