Do you have any out of character characteristics?

I work as a pharmacist so I'm constantly in smart clothes for work. Due to my job, I'm polite, and generally what you call 'professional'. I'm probably the type of 23 year old that makes old people think there is some hope in society. But out of work I probably give the opposite impression. I have a three year old daughter, I dress for comfort and I have a tattoo and like music that old people wouldn't consider music, so I usually look like I'm living off the state with no good intentions.

I wouldn't say that's necessarily out of character, I just feel like I live two lives sometimes.

I used to have really long hair and wear heavy metal band shirts. So when i played classical music on the piano at my school I always got surprised looks. Also, a couple of old ladies were talking about me and thought i wasn't going to school and wouldn't get a job. After a while I responded that I studied latin and planned to study medicine :/. At my first year of Uni I did cut my hair short and started wearing normal clothes ^^.

People assume that I'm white when they voice chat/telephone me for the first time and I haven't mentioned that I'm Asian. I don't know why but they get all surprised about it.
Likewise... I speak English like Stephen Fry and yet I'm obviously Chinese. Same with my old man, only it's worse with him, because he speaks English with a German accent...(!)

Among my gamer friends, they're surprised at my taste in music (hardcore baroque!)

Among my PG uni friends, they're surprised at the fact I do Thai boxing.

I'm one of those people who likes grim and gritty, brutal fantasy like WarHammer or The Painted Man, or novels by Stephen King.

So me liking MLP is kind of a major contrast.

Also singing ''The Art of the Dress'' right after I finished singing ''Lets Go'' by Ministry.

I don't really think I'm a very conventional person. I'm not trying to say "hUUuurrr, gais, I'm speshul!", just that I'm don't fit particularly well into any stereotypical groups. I'm too nerdy for the jocks, too antisocial for the cool people, not nerdy enough for the nerdy people, too smart for the average type but not smart enough for the actually smart people. My intelligence is also very inconsistent. I can be a really nice person but also a complete asshole, it really just depends on the day. I'm also both overly self aware but also pretty oblivious. I can be a really funny guy, but it's more of a self-amused sort of humor that really doesn't lend itself well to conversation. I love art but hate talking about it. I love anime but hate where it has gone as a medium and most of the fans (the ones on this site are probably some of the best I've come across). Point is, I'm kind of this floaty nothing without much "character" to speak of. It's not something that I romanticize, it's just sorta how I am. I usually just stick with a couple close friends and that seems to work for me.

I prefer to keep to myself outside of two really close friends and am an extreme nerd...

But I also can get along with everyone, and am extremely friendly and outgoing when I have to be. So everyone is either shocked by how well I do with people, or shocked that I hate being with people.

I don't think I can think of anything aside from being an aspergers "sufferer" who doesn't use it as an excuse, and that steretype's mostly due to people self diagnosing on the internet.

EDIT: Actually, there is something...I'm a metal fan who has a thing for old school rap.

Really, that's because I used to mostly like rap before...well...it all went to hell in a handbasket sometime around the millenium.

I'm programming and listening to the Portal 2 soundtrack, while a pile of snowboarding information and instructor qualifications sit on the desk beside me and my board rests against the opposite wall.

People I meet are usually surprised when I tell them I'm in the process of getting my PhD due to the fact I look like a lumberjack.

I suppose my biggest out-of-place characteristic is heterosexuality. I cook, I clean, I'm well-spoken, I fret over my physique and hair, and I have a fiery disdain for macho bullshit. Even in fighting, I rely more on dexterity and balance than strength and reach, in spite of possessing rather surprising amounts of the latter two.

By all means, I seem far more suited to be a stereotypical gay man.

People are amazed to learn that I like rap music. I play games, do sport read, study.... and for some reason people don't associate those things with rap music. :p

Maybe I haven't seen many threads on rap, but I'm not sure about that. I actually found out about my favorite rappers through The Escapist.

I pride myself on being compassionate, understanding, open-minded and tolerant when it comes to people who are different and lead different lifestyles than me. My family and friends trust me to be able to come to me with problems and I'll never judge or criticize.

But, I'm completely ignorant and misunderstanding of people who have less money than me. I don't understand why people can't afford the things they lament over wanting, and whenever someone says they can't afford something, my immediate thought is "Have you considered not being poor?", which is a horrible thought, one I'd never actually say to a person.

That's me, right down to the two really close friends. We're like... connected and stuff!

I kind of worry about making friends when I go to university, but I suppose that's a different matter.

Are you a massive nerd who loves sports?
This.

I hate watching sports though. I mean, why sit on a fucking couch watching people do something fun when I could be doing the same thing? The only time I have ever watched an entire game was in the middle of the night, with a commentator who clearly didn't give and shit (and he might have been stoned).

I am a total nerd but if i was lost in the woods I could easily survive for quite a while with nothing at my disposal. I know how to make and find shelter, hunt, trap, make fire and all that other stuff.

Well, the people on here who like rap, really like it, and know a lot about it. But we are a minority. Look at more threads on music, you'll see. :)

I am a borderline sociopath and genuinely evil human being, who despite the omission of all emotion besides anger and apathy, is intrigued by human nature, psychology and philosophy. In layman's terms, I am a being who seeks to identify with and understand humanity even as I endeavor to destroy it. (I am also, apparently, very good with children and can never bring myself to harm anything that isn't human. (Except spiders. (I hate spiders.)))

P.S. Thus concludes my vow of silence.

Heh, I reckon you have to have a character to have out-of-character anything. But yeah, I love DnD, WH40K, MTG, vidya, books and such, yet I'm extremely outroverted. Well, walking the line between outroverted and introverted. Used to be very shy, very introverted, but now I'm very opem with people, very talkative and such, and gain energy both from interacting with people and having some nice alone time with say, a good book.
I also do like sports, that is, actually participating, not watching some overpaid retards on the telly, but a game of football (give it up america, you're the only one that calls it soccer) with some friends is just great.
Additionally, I honestly try to be a nice and kind, sensitive person, but sometimes intolerance just flares up in me and I want to cave someone's skull in by powerbombing their eye socket onto a picket fence. Usually whenever religion is in the picture.
Anything else...I love rpgs and complex games (to a degree, I hate the spreadsheet buttfuckery of EVE online), but I found nothing wrong with MW2 when I played it, 'twas a nicely done game in the vein of a James Bond movie, basically, with very impressive and fun set pieces.
The point mentioned above is actually quite contrary to my usual tendency of being very skeptical to something new, before eventually warming to it.
Edit: I'm also a male aged between 12 and 40, and I despise zombies and the post-apocalyptic settings, with the exceptions of anything Fallout related and L4D (if only because the gameplay is solid).
Also, I'm on the Escapist and don't give a toss about episode 3, plus I still like BioWare, even though ME3's ending(s) didn't exactly satisfy me.
