My hand is just always in that general area, since it's more convenient to type that way.

yeah, most of the time that's just where my hand lands. I have a bigger problem with PC wrist cramp - you know, after having your wrists setting on the edge of a desk for so long that they fall asleep and start aching?

Any hints on how to solve this?
You could try using a joystick, but that'd only help with one hand.

Uncomfortable. I want to use a keyboard. Of course my entire set up is hard to get comfortable in - my desk is made for working in, not for gaming in, and the keyboard and mouse I'm using are very old, though both still function perfectly. My choice of chairs consist of a hard desk chair and a low lawn chair with pillows in it, neither of which are fit for gaming. Damn. Actually, I can get on my bed and pull the little plank that the keyboard goes on and put my laptop and mouse on it, but then I get what my brother's friend calls "video game butt" - that sensation in your ass that tells you you've been playing too long. Actually, that one's my fault...
You could use a gel rest they're normally available at office supply stores

As for video game butt... I THINK THIS CALLS FOR A NEW THREAD! ;) lol jk! Yeah i know what you're talking about... you mean when your one cheek (or both) goes numb, and you normally don't notice for the first while unless you stand up and try to walk. Afterward you can definitely feel it though haha

No...but as a kid, I discovered an affliction that I referred to as Nintendo Thumb. It's when enough playing will turn the thumb white.
Was it loss of blood flow or a callous? I had callouses. :/

OT:
Now I have De Quervain's Tendinitis [http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00007], lots of fun. Someday I think I will get brave enough to have surgery but I am not looking forward to the recovery time. At this point I just have to sleep with braces on sometimes, cortisone shots aren't working anymore either.

That's how you can tell the boring people from the gamers when you're at the school library!

Yeah, when I was reading I noticed they were on WASD.

As a wise power user once said "One hand on thine mouse and one hand on thine keyboard." So yeah, constant gamer claw for me too.

I had "SMB Pinky" a while back from holding down shift for 11 hours straight.

Yes. I noticed while I was at work a few weeks ago. My left hand is either at WASD or ASDF. ASDF after and right before I type something, WASD when I first set my hand on the keyboard.

I'm going to go with loss of blood. There was a numb feeling accompanying it, as though circulation was affected.

Little finger on Shift (from years of Adobe CS use), ring finger on A, middle lying flat over W and S, index on D, thumb on Spacebar. Have done for yeaaaars.

You think that's bad? I have scars on my thumbs. My right thumb is worse, due to Nintendo's wise decision to make the letters on the Gamecube controller engraved, so constant high-speed button switching wore down the skin so much it bled. That's where playing SSMM for money gets you.

Oh, so this is an actual condition... ever since I installed Oblivion on my laptop, Every game since than used the WASD. Now, when I just st my hands down on my keyboard, they instinctivly go to the WASD buttons. Damn, if that aint wierd...

What I want to know is if there is a cure for Mouse pads? and no, not from just porn...

Better for graphic design, better for shooters, better for RTS games. You want speed and accuracy? Got it. You want to keep your wrist from being ruined? You got it.

Seriously, they're fucking superior.

I've been playing games for years, but have yet to develop this. Could be my lack of playing PC games, but still...

I played Tetris on a Gameboy while sitting in a chair with my elbows propped up on the chair arms until my pinkie through middle fingers turned white on both hands. I decided it was time to call it a night.

My cousin had Nintendo Thumb - completely dislocated the joint in his thumb, needed to have it operated on to fix it.

Buy a mousepad with a gel pad for your wrist. Seriously helps reduce Carpal tunnel, rsi's and in general overall pain and cramps.
