If you ask me, the Necrons are top of the pile. They've wiped all sentient life from the galaxy before, just to feed the insatiable hunger of the C'Tan. What makes anyone think they can't do it all again?

I like it but I think I prefer Fantasy Warhammer more.

I'm an Eldar player, but if I don't field an army of tanks all my battles become a massive uphill stuggle, and yet if I field a Farseer on a jetbike with Fortune backed up with nine warlocks on jetbikes I'm effectively fielding one of the most broken units in the game.

What I'm getting at is that the balance is messed up unless you're one of the 5 different versions of Space Marines that they prefer to update rather than the Xeno armies like Dark Eldar.

I enjoy the Dawn of War games quite a bit (1 moreso than 2) and I would play the tabletop game if it weren't so damned expensive and if there were people to play it with.

My armor is Contempt
My shield is disgust
My sword is hatred

In the Emperor's name let none survive!

Yeah, I'm a fan.

Liked the setting, disagree with GW's pricing policies(play marines or pay double), think that the fanbase would significantly benefit from an idiot purge.

Bah, they just can't enjoy the true pleasures of the Prince of Excess. If you need me I'll be enjoying my depraved orgy with daemons from the warp. :D

So what Space Marine Legion/Chapter are you painting?

Unfortunately my artistic genes were knocked out of me when I was dropped on my head as a child, otherwise I'm sure I'd be a hell of a miniature painter. I would also need to be the first-born of a wealthy aristocratic family to be able to afford the damn things in the first place.
So, it's Dawn of War for me. Which is fine, I'm still on Dark Crusade (the high point of the entire DoW franchise) and loving it. For the Emperor! You are disposable! He is not! Imperial Guard, form lines! FIRE!!!

Hell yes! For the Emperor and Sanguinius (My avatar pic)!I played DoW the RTS long before I picked up the tabletop just earlier this year, but I've dug my teeth into it and not let go. One may have inferred already that I collect and play Blood Angels.

I thought that the emperor died...

Yes, I do like it. It is a cool universe that I can in no way, ever, afford. PC RTS gaming will have to suffice.
In actuality, the Emperor's body was broken in his fight against Horus, at the very end of the Horus Heresy. His supporters managed to get his body interred in the Golden Throne, which acts as a kind of stasis chamber for his last few living cells combined with a Psykic amplifier. He survives by the daily sacrifice of a thousand Psykers and his limitless will.

FOR TZEENTCH!!!

im an avid colector of miniatures. love the fluff (even if the Grimdark aspects sometimes coil in on themselves to become so Grimdark that no humour can escape... until the Orks smash it up a bit.)

i haven't managed to play a game in 2 years due to college (thats High School to Americans) but ive been building up my custom renegade warband into a force calpable of smashing the puny Imperium of man and its Corpse Emperor.

also. painting is the most relaxing thing in the world and converting save so much money.

I love the fluff and i love the books, i've been reading gaunts ghosts latley, The Saint Omnibus is Epic.
You should see the Lost. It's a thousand pages of pure win.
Too fething right, apart from the Armour of Contempt.
Wait, there was something wrong with Armour of Contempt? I really liked that book, especially the parts not focusing on the Ghosts themselves. Does your lack of enthusiasm have something to do with Caffran?

On the topic of other things that are epic, everything Aaron Dembski-Bowden writes. Seriously, everything he's produced is completely awesome and he 'gets' 40K in a way that most of the other authors don't really seem to.

My main problem with 40k books, however, is that as far as I'm aware, they're all about the humans, with maybe a few borderline exceptions. A book about the Orks, Eldar or Tau, preferably with no humans to be seen anywhere would be excellent.
Such a book exists, titled Eldar Prophecy, which is about the Eldar and never features any other race except by mention. I have to warn you though it has an undeservedly bad rap for being confusing (which it was, sort of), atypical of the species being depicted (prompting "fanboys" to rage that "Eldar aren't like that, he got everything wrong!!eleventy!" when the point was clearly made that the novel was not depicting ordinary craftworld life), and for having a very ambiguous cliff-hanger ending. The last one is the only complaint I'd say holds up to much scrutiny as a real detraction, though if you've read a certain other short story by C.S. Goto then you know how it ends (sort of). At the very least there are parts of it that are sublime (I was moved to tears in one especially memorable scene).

Path of the Warrior might also be an example of the type of book you're looking for, and at the very least it's a book about an Eldar aspect warrior and not humans. I can't actually tell you whether humans factor into the story or not, as I haven't actually read it yet, it's still sitting on my "new book" pile (along with my spiffy new omnibus Enforcer, collecting the magnificent and previously out of print Shira Calpurnia novels by Matthew Farrer[footnote]Another author who really had a handle on what makes 40K 40K, in that his works felt completely authentic to the setting and were not just set there ostensibly, but actually took place in a funhouse mirror version of the setting unique to one particular author *cough* Abnett *cough*.[/footnote], which I bought even though I'd already tracked down used copies of the books it contains years ago). I have good expectations for it though, as Thorpe has yet to disappoint with any of his previous stories (and Angels of Darkness is bloody fantastic, making me wonder whose brilliant idea it was to let other people who were NOT Gav Thorpe have a crack at Astelan, grah!).

the tabletop? No. I tried it and found I didnt quite enjoy the time consuming nature of it. I understand why people like it but its not my thing
The universe, story and video games however. Love it.
