if COD continues to release yearly franchises, they will go down the same path as MoH and TH and GH and every other activision related franchise. as long as BF doesn't fall into that trap and releases quality games every 3 years they will surpass them

Do yo realize battlefield was the original online shooter.Cod 4 was a huge success and could be played online with your friends on consoles.I think the reason why the sale are so high is each year yo and your friends but a new one.MW2 was a huge failure (maybe not in sales) but people we're expecting something different for black ops.I was going to by black ops.Even though i didn't really want to, just cause my friends own black ops but end up not doing so because my brother got it on his xbox.I'm glad i didn't get it because it is crap and now i have enough money for KZ3.

To be honest, I'd rather BF didn't get as popular as CoD (Although DICE/EA deserve the money a lot more than Activision) - Because the players that make up a large amount of CoD's fanbase are absolute twats (I'm not saying all CoD players because im a CoD player too), who trash talk so much, don't give a crap about anybody having fun and there's no sense of community at all.

Basically a game being popular means that you will get the average casual console gamer on your voice chat when you're trying to have a nice, laid back game with other people that want to play/talk co-operatively.

I can't stress how much I hate the CoD 'community' and wouldn't want to wish it on any other game D:

Well to be honest, It still hard.
YES battlefield is WAY BETTER than COD.
I think the record Black Ops overpass is the number of sales on the First day, that record was owned by GT4 and the total sales, well it's still MW2. But im not so sure about it.

Anyway, if we talk about what it deserves... Yeah Battlefield will do better, but we are not talking about that.

COD will sale well for the so called NOOBTUBE or something like that, and also because I know a lot of kids about 10 more or less, they don't even have a COD but they talk about that game all day long, so must of those game sales it's because of little kids

Battlefield Bad Company 2 was a better FPS / Modern Combat game than Modern Warfare 2. I don't see why its taken ONE trailer for people to take their heads out of the sand and make them question what Call of Duty does thats different. Pro hint: NOTHING.

I haven't bought Black Ops, and I probably wont. I've tinkered with the zombies, I've seen the odd level of campaign, and the MP looks -exactly- the same as MW2.

BFBC2 on the other hand? I couldn't put down the multiplayer for months. 4 player squads in a 16 man army, on their own private 4 man chat channels is much better than a handful of idiots all screaming obscenities at each other for a full minute and a half inbetween each game. Destructable environments bring more to the combat, a tactical side to the multiplayer, which the likes of noobtubing, marathon melee attacks and 'killstreaks' can barely compare with.

And don't even get me started on the luxury of having vehicles. Nothing quite like rolling into an enemy infested base with a convoy of your mates in tanks, with helicopter support raining fire from above.

It's not about 'taking down COD', its about waking up the mindless masses who actually find the mediocrity that is the Call of Duty franchise still fun.

Yeah, because it's gonna be the only major FPS in 2011.

No others have been announced yet, and it's already march, chances are if it's a major franchise, we'd know about a new relase sometime this year.

I honestly think CoD is only popular because of the MASSIVE amount of advertising and hype it gets. Battlefield is an older series and has been PC exclusive for most of it. The fact that CoD is on just about everything that has a screen kinda tilts the odds in it's favour, but I personally prefer Battlefield over any of the Cod's anyway.

Cod just feels like an over glorified Death match game, and people on it play like it is too. If i want to play a death match game, I'll go back to Quake of Unreal Tourny.

That sense of community disappeared when they introduced matchmaker with the console generation. The reason I despise console multi player so much isn't just because of the community, but because it's more fun to get to know people you're playing with.

Example: I've played counter strike for nearly 8 years now, I played on the same server almost the entire time. The people I got to know were regulars and we would chat between matches if we were dead, or even during the matches. It got to the point where we would just fool around and stop taking things so seriously, those times were the most fun. So blame the consoles for having such limited options in terms of online.

Why would anyone want a series that's declining in quality, but provided excellent games in the past, to be replaced by a series that has yet to provide a single above average game, and that brought us one of the worst triple A experiences of the past decade?

Call of Duty is what the casual and underage play.

Battlefield is for the serious player.

I don't give a shit about either, personally.

I don't know if MW3 can match the level of graphical upgrade B3 seems to have made.

And in the end, the large 360gaming masses are dumb enough to be enticed by it.

MW2 was really shiny, for a 2009 game....;)

1. It's already obvious how Activsion is about to milt the CoD franchise.
I assume you mean milk. If by that you mean that there are currently three different developers working full time on the franchise along with a number of others coming in to assist on the next one to ship, then I agree. Except this isn't in the future, it's happening now (Infinity Ward is working on what is presumed to be MW3, Sledgehammer is working on some game in the CoD franchise and Trearch is still working on content for Black Ops and, one could assume, pre-production on the next CoD Game). What's more, since 2003 the CoD franchise has released: Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 3, Modern Warfare, World at War, Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops (those are the main ones) along with Finest Hour, Big Red 1, and Roads to Victory. Thus in 8 years they have produced 10 games.

2. BF:BC2 did WAY better than expected
EA in fact said exactly this. The game was their biggest march release ever with more than 5 million units sold. By contrast, the original only moved 1.4 million units (according to available statistics).

3. I know that many of my friends, who were once hardcore CoD fans, are getting sick of CoD and they're moving on to Halo, BF:BC2 and Crysis 2.
This is more or less what happens in the long run. Eventually one just gets sick of a game. Since very little has really changed about the CoD experience since 2007, people are basically playing the same game as they were four years ago. This trend cannot possibly last forever, especially when what people are actually getting for their money is a series of maps.

This is more or less the same problem that Guitar Hero faced in that each new game really only offered new tracks to play.

You know, I think it was 5 maybe 6 years ago that these two franchises lived in a state of co-existence with each their fanbases. Each community willingly to not only see the flaws in both, but also see the positives and enjoy both. The only real high end shooter that was looked down upon and laughed at was Medal of Honor. Yes, those were the days that the PC community ran it all, we had BF2, Call of Duty 2. What did the consoles get? Finest Hour, Big Red One, and Modern Combat. All laughable in comparison to their PC counter-parts, then Call of Duty 3 comes out, most don't like it, though the console crowd uproars about how great it was. then COD4 comes out and Bad Company for Battlefield, both identical for both communities. Ever since, it seems like everything has to be a rage-fest.
