Damn right I respect my country's flag. It is a symbol of American pride and freedom. Nothing I can do but respect it.

I don't care if someone would accidentally poop on my countrys flag but if they did it on purpose and they did it because they want to disrespect my country I would get mad

I hold my country's flag as a sacred icon, and I treat it with respect and dignity. I have many friends in the military at present, and I have family members that have served.

The flag itself isn't what really matters though. It's the idea - the foundation on which the concept of the flag rests that is important.

Hell no, why should I? My government gives me a reason to show respect I will. Until this day I have yet to see that.
American? Me too!
Unfortunately...
I respect the American flag for what it truly stands for, freedom and the fight against oppression.

But right now, the Liberal Democrats and the non true Conservative Republicans are practically wiping their asses with it. The reason I say this is obvious, they are trying to control every aspect of our lives, they think that the majority of people want to be told what to do and have their hands held. If I didn't face hefty fines and jail time for tax evasion, I would withhold paying taxes until they remove the socialist health care that is coming down the pipes, because I'm not going to pay for other peoples' health care, because that is charity and I should have the right to be charitable or not.

If you want health care for people that don't have it, start a government health charity. If a person chooses to donate money into it, they get a big tax credit. For example, if I donate 100 dollars to the charity, I get 200 off my taxes, so basically I get to cut my tax payment by 100 dollars.

If somebody was disrespecting our flag, just to get a rise, I would pay no heed to them. I hate it when people get so worked up over a damn flag. Fair enough, I wouldn't be too pleased but I wouldn't break some teeth over it.

Well, some extremists in Afghanistan burned the swedish flag because they thought we should had done something about Dennmarks media for releasing a picture-contest of Muhammed. Twice.

I didn't get offended, I was laughing my ass of. xD
You know what got me laughing about the whole deal? When I saw the official apology [http://www.danishmuhammedcartoons.com/ApologyEnglish.html] issued by a support group of the Jylland Post.
The first one was true and funny, as it puts perspective on what they are doing for their people, yet they don't seem to care.

But Chapter 2 wasn't completely right. Terrorists are everywhere. Any person of any race or religion can get the will to blow up train stations.

Somewhat amusing, yes.

Lot of Patriotic threads recently...interesting trend.
O.P. Nope, couldn't give a crap.

A flag is a symbol of our history, which is imperialist, and bloody in the extreme.
A flag is a symbol of unity of a nation, which I don't believe in.
A flag is a symbol of patriotism, which is largely a con to get people to die for a governments economic plans.
Fuck flags.

Edit: Interesiting trivia though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_protocol

You really should treat it with respect. If only because, in these more nationalistic times, one would not want to be flagged as unpatriotic.

I have a profound respect for my country and states flags. I wasn't really raised that way, it's just how I feel.

I like your idea,

If i would run short on money, I just "donate" 1000 dollars, and within a month i have a 100% profit!

But... you where joking right? (or at least sarcastic)

anyway: If I had just taken a dump, and there is nothing but a flag within reach...
No, I don't respect my flag or any patriotic symbol whatsoever of any country.

I'm an American and I have never cared for my flag.

First, it's a piece of cloth.
Second, it's ugly.

Our flag (The Netherlands) is quite simple,
and the worst thing is, if you tilt it, you get the French Flag....
No Sir, i can't respect such things.

Nah, not really. I live in a country that is irritatingly patriotic about these things, Cymru am byth indeed! Although, a big arsed red dragon on your flag is pretty unique (unless you are from Bhutan!)

I actually don't have a flag for either of my countries (England or France). However if I see them I will respect them since they both have some meaning. On the other hand I have more respect for the Singapore flag as it stands for well:

The red represents universal brotherhood and equality of man and the white stands for purity and virtue. The crescent moon, symbolizes the young nation of Singapore on the rise and the five stars represent the country's ideals of democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality.

Ain't that nice?

As David Mitchell once said "why do people, especially Americans give a mass fuck about there flag? 'cos it's not a countries flag it's your flag, your burning your own flag"

Thats my view on it aswell, it's a flag. It's a colored piece of fabric, it serves no real propose other than to differentiate between different parts of the world.

To burn a flag might show your pissed at a country but it's not going to effect the country in anyway.

We're generally not that patriotic with our flag in Denmark, but we use them for birthdays for some reason, flags everywhere. Saw some angry middle-easterners burn my flag on tv, didn't bother me at all.
