Well, the games he likes are mostly truly good, and those that he doesn't like sometimes are somewhat overhyped.
Personally, I HATED GTA4 and GTA Chinatown but I truly enjoyed running around in my underwear in Saints row 2, slapping people towards the horizon.
Of course none of these games are anything as good as Prototype, but thats just my opinion

Of course. I take any review with a grain of salt because none of them are my own. Reviews help me make an informed decision/purchase, but I still buy what I think will be the most fun for my money. I often buy games with mediocre reviews, but don't buy some of the highest reviewed games. That works fine for me, especially since I almost never pay even half the original MSRP for my games.

I love how people are so caught up on Yatzhees reviews. I take just about every review with two truckloads of salt, given that a lot of them are less about reviews now days, and more about returning investments from publishers (I know not all of them are, but enough are truely trash and it seems the only ones that are actually carefully reviewed are those with no advertising budget). Player reviews don't often get a lot better, and if you're looking to buy a new game, they are some of the worst I've seen since you basically have the hypers and the haters, with not a lot of in between. I will say that I like Yatzhee pointing out the flaws more so than most other game devs, but he often doesn't completely cover everything and is in fact doing this for a job (meaning he can't spend too much time on each game). He also does do it mostly for comedy, so you really can't say the reviews are going to be revolutionary insights and analysis on each game. His Extra punctuation column is often a better view on the game than his videos as well.

However, one of the biggest things is that everyone has different tastes in games. I'm a JRPG fan, so I'm not exactly seeing eye to eye with most reviewers. What could be bad to one gamer is fun to another (think about your childhood games and tell me that they are actually as good as the ones you play now. Remove your nostalgia goggles first and tell me that you enjoyed playing to lose, if all you had were retro games, or that movie liscened games are good. As a kid though, you loved that stuff).
I know there are some people that like their story to be told directly to them, and there are others who rather like some inferred things that you're allowed to interpret (yes I was able to sneak in a hint at Shadow of the Colossus in here). Not everyone likes the same things, and some things might make a game good for you while it doesn't do anything and makes it average for others (ex: Dante's Inferno to me had a more likeable lead than God of War, so since it was the same otherwise according to Yatzhee, I'd like that game while he didn't).

When he likes a game it might be enlightening to listen to him, when he doesn't you better listen carefully if he gave it a fair chance (like The Witcher). So, yes, sure, I take him with a "grain of salt" which should be obvious in comedy.

Yahtzee makes a lot of valid points on gaming but I take his reviews with a grain of salt. Not everyone is going to agree with yahtzee on wether or not a game is bad. For example, yahtzee unconditionally hates Jrpgs(with a few exceptions) and fighting games but those genres have a lot of fans. They aren't fanboys of those genres for liking them . Those aren't fanboy games for being praised by their audience. After all, all popular games have a lot of fanboys, even silent hill and tim schafer games.

I find yahtzee's views on gaming very convincing but Idon't always fully agree on his opinions on quality of games. I didn't portal was the greatest game of all time and I fucking love smash brothers. I also think that people should turning his comment thread into flame wars.
That second paragraph was unreadable. Use proper English please. And also who doens't take the reviews with a grain of salt. Was this thread really necessar?. Sorry for being mean, but come on.

I watch it because I need some good humor, but sometimes I just find him to be a right dickhead who's basicly nitpicking to hell the game he's reviewing. And yes I love bioshock 2, why do you ask?

In all seriousness, he has his good moments, and his bad moments. But sometimes he just is a dick, like the webcomics review and super smash bros. Sure I won't stop watching him, because it's funny most of the time, it's when he stops being funny, and just basicly shouts at a game.

Let's just say that I don't buy games based off his reviews( although the same can be said about every other reviewer/review site/whatever ) which I mostly view for the entertainment value and not to form an opinion on the game, that being said I do agree with most of the things he says, except when it comes to RPGs.

I find them refreshingly good and CRITICAL. I've given up on other reviews as usually they are licking the ass of the company. Nahtzee isn't afraid to say when crap is crap.

Always. He has points, some of them are valid, but he has too much negativity. He's not quite as funny as I remember him being.
Theres only so many times you can wear the same suit before it wears out and looks tired. ZPs act is very much like this.

He overdoes the negative aspects of games a bit, but overall i usually think he's right on the money (after stripping off the harsh language and colorfull metaphores)
I watch him cause he does it in a funny way. Playing games for as long as I (and he) have, i cant help but notice that i look at games in a way that most of gamers dont.
A broader and longer gaming history (24 years, i was around when pong hit the living rooms)is probably the reason so. It certainly makes you more of a critic after that many years.

His reviews are more comedy driven than anything else. He eviscerates the games that need to be eviscerated, but he does have to nit pick the good games with exaggerated criticisms and rather nonsensical comedy. He just wouldn't be Yahtzee if he didn't exaggerate things a bit.
