I take him somewhat seriously, but with him it's comedy first and review second, so what you have to keep in mind is that he blows bad things way out of proportion for comedy's sake. If I'm considering getting a game I'll listen to what he has to say, but he's not the be all end all for me; even if he really dislikes a game I have enough of my own opinion to tell that I might not agree with him and I might get the game anyways.

He has valid points but he isn't my god, he doesn't have any say on what I do or don't like. He's more comedy based anyways.

Of course. They're more comedy than anything else, not really meant to be taken seriously
While I agree that they are mainly for comedy, if you read between the lines he often does a fair job of summerising the game. Several games I own which he has reviewed I often look at afterward and have to accept that between the swearing and shit based analogy's he makes some pretty solid and often correct remarks on the game.

All of Yahtzee's reviews have to be taken with some amount of salt. Some more, others less. He falls into the category of what I'm going to start calling a "snob gamer". This is nothing against Yahtzee, I love his reviews, but as his reviews are certainly intended for comedy more than anything else, he obviously nitpicks a lot of issues from games that often seem pointless. I see it for what it is. He makes reviews about how he hates *game*, which is funny, even if *game* is really good by general concensus.

Zero Punctuation is fun to watch, and has some good advice, but you should never take Yahtzee too seriously.

As far as I'm concerned, all reviews should be taken with a grain of salt. It's pretty much universal truth that a 100% objective review is impossible.

So, to answer the question, yes.

I love his 'reviews'. To be honest, I most like the reviews where he beats on a game I like - because then I understand all the funny, in-jokes. The reviews for games I haven't played are usually a bit meh, because I don't really know what he's ragging on.

That said... I find Yahtzee to be more reliable than the average gaming magazine or online review - All of whom seem to be kissing the developers'/publishers collective asses so hard that the gooey stuff drips onto their reviews hours later.

Star Trek Online, Operation Flashpoint 2 and Global Agenda being cases in point.

I take his reviews with as many grains of salt as I take any professional reviews sites scores. 10/10's are handed out far too often by them. (So this 10/10 game is perfect in every way and has no room for improvement does it? Bullshit.)

while his reviews are over-flowing with sarcasm and humor, they are in their own way legitimate reviews.

so in some respects, i listen to his reviews for what they are intended to be but i also listen to the overall theme he is sledghammering into your forehead and judge for myself whether it's accurate or not.

I don't play a lot of games, but one of the ones he did review that I have played was The World Ends With You. Now, I really enjoyed TWEWY, but I noticed every issue he brought up was true. The thing was, I didn't mind. It didn't change my view of the game, nor did it change my opinion of Yahtzee. It's just we have differing priorities and differing tastes.

I think his reviews are accurate, and I find it easier to take him seriously because he is so critical of games. Those reviewers who give rave reviews to all games and never mention the bad parts are harder to take seriously because it feels like it's all just fan-wank.

I embrace everything that Yahtzee says, having found his insights dead on. That being said, I also have my own opinion. His unabashed dislike for subtle flaws is informative and tends to reveal flaws, but I myself don't mind them so much. I actually enjoyed WET... in the same way that I enjoyed The Phantom Menace. I have a much higher tolerance for cr@p. This may make me a lowbrow gamer, but I am fine with that. I think the man is brilliant, but every brilliant man has his share of eccentricities. You can't consider yourself a critic if you don't have a discerning taste in games.

So... salt? Nah. I trust him if he says a game blows half man, half donkey hybrids with warts. I guess I just like a good freak show.

Yahtzee doesn't review games he critiques them.

Anyone "offended" by him needs to man up, I mainly watch yahtzee's vids because they are hilarious and he presents a totally different outlook on games to every other journalist out there. But if i like a game one video isnt going to drastically change that, people need to be more open minded.

As that one anonymous e-mailer put it in the mailbag showdown episode, he's a professional troll. You shouldn't let it get to you if his material pisses you off. These reviews are just for fun (except at times when he makes valid point).

Yahtzee makes a lot of valid points on gaming but I take his reviews with a grain of salt. Not everyone is going to agree with yahtzee on wether or not a game is bad. For example, yahtzee unconditionally hates Jrpgs(with a few exceptions) and fighting games but those genres have a lot of fans. They aren't fanboys of those genres for liking them . Those aren't fanboy games for being praised by their audience. After all, all popular games have a lot of fanboys, even silent hill and tim schafer games.

I find yahtzee's views on gaming very convincing but Idon't always fully agree on his opinions on quality of games. I didn't portal was the greatest game of all time and I fucking love smash brothers. I also think that people should turning his comment thread into flame wars.
I take the facts, all that means is that I'm not one of the Yahtzee haters who if he says a game has a quicktime event would disagree simply because he's the one who said it and I'm definitely not a Yahtzee fanboy who creates a new bible every time he speaks. I form my own opinions, I'd like to think most people do, personally I think some of the games he dislikes are great and despise Team Fortress (though the characters are awesome) even though he loves it.

There's no denying I enjoy his work though.

I understand trolls don't have valid points at all, just an opinion. Since Yahtzee presents what he considers a games flaws and then rips into it I don't really see him as a troll.

Replace "grain" with "mound," and yes, I do. At the very least he is, at best, utterly unreliable at reviewing JRPG's (or Japanese TRPG's; Valkyria Chronicles review, I'm looking at you) among other things, not to mention that he isn't all that informative on the game itself, just (intentionally) nit-picky flaws.

However, in combination with somewhat-too-forgiving reviews from other gaming sites, he can be surprisingly indicative.

While I enjoy the reviews and (dis)agree with his points I don't take them to account when I buy games. Mostly because I like games he would hate before looking at it, and he takes everything out of proportion for comedy.

I take them for a truckload of salt.

Yahtzee reviewed games like Demon's Souls and Torchlight, games I never heard about until he pointed them out, and already I decided not to even think about getting them.

and when he states if a game is good, I tend to believe him 100%, that's what got me to get Fallout 3.

ever since I started watching ZP, I stopped following X-play's reviews, which I usually did untill I leanred about ZP, smartest decision I ever made.
