I think that just based on the hype, it'll sell extremely well.

Honestly, I'm expecting it to be a mediocre to poor game, but the way this thing has been hyped up, it'll sell millions.

People are going to say that it's great just because it's a Duke Nukem game. Duke Nukem isn't awesome. His character is every movie good guy from the 80's and the games were just ok. It actually kinda pisses me off that people are probably gonna hail this as the game of the year, when it's really going to be mediocre. The Duke Nukem name(for some stupid reason) guarantees a financially successful title.

It'll probably sale boatloads on the first couple of days just so people can have the novelty of actually owning Duke Nukem Forever. As for it it will be any good? Probably. Its hard for a game to have a development cycle be this long and still be bad (Daikatana notwithstanding). The other Duke Nukems were fun games that didn't take themselves too seriously, which I am all in favor of when it comes to FPS games.

I suspect it will be just OK. I mean...how could it possibly be good enough or bad enough to achieve the notability it had as a vaporware title?

You know, I've seen a few posts about people not liking DNF because it's 90's culture with 21st Century graphics. I've got to ask.

Why is that a problem?

Yeah, the Nineties was a different time, we are all supposedly more sophisticated, yada yada yada. But, without trying to sound like a gamer obsessed with nostalgia, it might be good for the games industry to see what their past was. Games like Mega Man 9-10 were well received, being a trip down memory lane for fans and did rather well for Capcom if I'm not mistaken. I see the DNF going in the same direction.

Will it live to it's own 'hype'? No, No, a thousand times No. Nothing could live up to the hype this game has been building for 12 years.

Will it be successful? Yes. Nostalgia + Renewed Interest + Curiosity makes a commercially successful game.

I think it will honestly, fail to meet the hype, after seeing the working gameplay, I think it doesn't even look enjoyable...
I had hoped it would be better, but I guess it's just gonna fail.

and fix graphics too, I know graphics don't make a game, but they have terrible working-graphics, everything looks wet. I mean seriously, GET TO TODAY'S STANDARD!

It looks like a lot of fun to play, so I think it will be fairly successful.

I'm not really seeing as much hope as I am frustration. People who know Duke Nukem know what to expect. Is it going to be a masterpiece of every element ? No. It's gonna be a Damn Duke Nukem game.

Once it was announced, wasn't it the top topic on Twitter for two days? Even if its only decent, it'll still make a pretty good return. Now if Gearbox can get a good marketing campaign going, it could really get hot.

I will bet that the game will come out, have awesome initial sales, then everyone will find out that the company had been sitting around eating pizza and drinking coke for the last ** years (no idea how long the games taken =P)
Knowing 3D Realms, I highly doubt they were drinking the coke.

As for the game, I think it will enjoy moderate success among the people who still remember Duke Nukem. I'll probably buy it, because I was never convinced it would be a terrible game. I was convinced it would never come out, but I don't think it will be complete crap. It would be nice to have a new game that follows the old school laws of shooters. You're one guy, you have fantastical and ridiculous weaponry at your disposal, and you mow down hordes of messed up mutants. Some games come close to this, such as Serious Sam and Painkiller, but the problem I have with them is they're more arena based games, the level design is actually pretty poor in quite a few places, just large areas for people to swarm you. It'd be nice to play an old school FPS with creative level design, ala Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, and Shadow Warrior that are more than just open areas.

The only possible kink in the chain that I noticed was the gameplay footage. It looks like it's following a more Halo/COD vibe in gameplay, I clearly noticed a weapon swap come up, indicating only 2 weapons can be carried at a time, as well as a grenade button. Yes these work well in those games, but Duke needs to be able to carry 10 weapons at a time, it's what he does. Yes he can use a pistol, but he also has a shotgun, a three barreled machine gun, pipebombs, an RPG, a shrink ray, a freeze gun, and a dual barrel stinger missile launcher. Fingers crossed it's just something on the console versions due to the limited number of buttons, but I doubt it.

Importantly, I'm afraid it will.
Think about it: a video game that's not only a generic FPS that involves an overly masterfulness man fighting off enemies with guns and quirky remarks, BUT a generic FPS that involves an overly masterfulness man fighting off enemies with guns and quirky remarks THAT ACTUALLY PARODIES ITSELF!!!!!!!!

Let's face it. Duke Nukem Forever is basically going to be the Deadpool of the video game world.

This game will cure cancer, it will regrow my broken teeth, it will be with me at all times when I go out in case of AIDS. It better do all of that or I will sit in my bathroom and cry a river.

I suspect it probably will be successful, if only because there's a large enough number of idiots who're apparently still willing to follow that carrot that's been dangled in front of them for 12 FREAKEN' YEARS, instead of writing it off as a colossal piece of fail and moving on. Duke Nukem died out years ago and quite frankly should've remained dead as far as I'm concerned.

I don't understand why you are nervous. Did you have a hand in creating Duke Nukem or working on any of the projects? If so, well yeah I might understand that, but if not, there is no reason to be nervous. Unless you and Duke have a blind date ;-)

As E.T.? I don't think it's going to crash the fucking game industry and will sell so bad the copies will have to be dumped in a hole.
It's a joke my good man, internet sarcasm, not to be taken seriously, also, thank you for the unnecessary swearing, that's always nice. /sarcasm

I forget to put that at the end of my sentence and I should expect such responses.

At this point no...

I'm almost expecting when the game installs or loads.
You get Rick Roll'd when you press play.
