Commercially, sure. But I'm still sceptical about whether or not it will be good.

I'm going to buy it anyway.

I think it can be just from threads like this -- I mean it's Duke Nukem -- it gets the equivalent of what's probably worth millions of dollars of advertising just for being released at all.

This game will cure cancer, it will regrow my broken teeth, it will be with me at all times when I go out in case of AIDS. It better do all of that or I will sit in my bathroom and cry a river.
Be prepared to. Hype barely ever gets lived up to.

in a word; NO. In a few words; It will not be successful.

In a paragraph;
I don't think Duke Nukem Forever will be successful for a couple of reasons a)it's vaporware and has become the butt of so many jokes unless its a parody of itself and it is really really really really really really really really REALLY funny it's going to be looked at as a stamp of shame, a stigma on a game library. b) Part of the appeal of the original was those hot in game pixelated boobies. Not we have not pixelated and still hot boobies all over the internet. Getting them isn't hard now and I remember friends and i bought that game just to see those naked titties. That isn't going to be a strong selling point (see BMXXX). c) interest in this game isn't high enough and EVERYONE is going to wait until reviews to buy it. interest has dwindled over these 10 years and no one even cares about the game anymore. and even if it does in fact come out (still not sure it actually will) i can almsot gauruntee you will not be waiting in a line to get it opening day and more so no one is going to touch it until there are reviews of it. ANd if the reviews show it to be a gritty greyish/brown FPS that other companies have turned out in 1/10 the time 10 times we're all gonna go buy one of those instead.

This game will have to be the new half life. If fact It will be the New half life. Dontcha know? it's full title in Half life 2 episode 3; Duke nukem forever.

For a game that has taken...what...13 years to be released, it will have to pretty epic to make up for all that time. I'm in no way expecting it to be the greatest shooter ever made, but it better be one of the greatest shooters ever.

We can only hope that it doesn't do well.
Then maybe with any luck, the franchise will die in the arse, and I'll never have to here about that miserable excuse for a first person shooter ever again.
Here's hoping. Games like Duke Nukem are the reason we can't be taken seriously by outsiders and why games won't be classed an art form. It really is just neanderthal crap.

It'll be succesful but not record breaking. Core gamers will buy it just because it's Duke. I never played the original Duke Nukem but I'm definitely getting Forever just because I want to see what all the fuss is about, and maybe get to play a shooter that isn't all about gritty realism and the color brown.

Considering that the game is a legend in video game history, it'll probably sell quite a bit.

It has a hype that can only be described as unmatched, the way I see it, if it was the game that Yahtzee described in the "review" of it... it would still disappoint people.

But the movie industry has Die Hard and The Expendables etc, and it is still considered art.

Do I think it will be successful? I don't know, probably not. But I don't want the game and its creators to burn in hell like lots of people here seem to.

I don't know what everyone expects from DNF I mean, it's Duke Nukem, Its just shooting, strippers and huge monsters, it would be very hard to get that wrong. You really shouldn't expect much more than a throw back to the careless 90's shooters, and I think it will do a great job at that.

it probably wont live up to the hype, but with Gearbox behind it now, it will surely be a good game... if not a great game.

im predicting an average review score of like 8.5-9.0

also, the feel of the game seems similar to Half-Life 2, which i absolutely love :D

cant wait

Like this dude above me said,Gearbox are the guys for the job. Now that it's out of the hands of that fat tard George Broussard and his team, and in the hands of a capable and responsible company, it will be a competent, enjoyable, if not groundbreaking game. And that's all that matters. For 50 euro, we'll get a fun single-player shooter with a fun multiplayer experience. Word of mouth will get around and it will sell accordingly.

I'm sure this game will turn out well.

No, it will not be the second coming of Christ. Of course it won't. It doesn't have to be.
You pretty much summed up everything I was going to say. Fun but not mind bendingly awe inspiring. I've played the demo by the way and fun is all I can say for it (Manabar FTW). One other thing I will say though is that I was so disappointed they conformed to the "2 weapons at a time" standard. I was hoping they would go the oldschool/Painkiller path and let you have every gun at once and go your hardest.

It will be a decent break from all the stupid modern so called "realistic shooters"
as far as sales it isnt going to do anything major, decent enough sales, most of the people who will get it will be people who used to play the shooters of the 90's, DOOM 1 & 2, Duke 3D, Half Life 1, the younger gamers who dont know anything about Duke will not find it interesting and go back to Black Ops, which is a damn shame

Also im hoping for a FPS with a decent bloody single player

Thats good, i'd rather they copy Half Life 2 (which hasnt been copied for a good few years now)
more then they copy COD (which has been copied by nearly every shooter in the last few years)

Even if it is the best shooter IN THE WORLD with DEEP STORY [DEEP HURTING] and everything a Duke Nukem Fan can wish for. It still will be old..

It has been so long to say that the speed behind the initial push is gone is unfair. No even after calling the AAA three times this car now is a burned out shell of itself with a wasp nest in it.

Not saying a modern duke nukem could be bad no it could be decent shooter. But lets be fair the IP has died.. rotten..burned.. it is gone!

By now it isn't even illegible to Vaporware Awards!

If they make this game old style it will be called archaic and not worth full price. If they make it new style it won't be a Duke Nukem see where I am going with this?

You know what ..maybe I am wrong. I would be happy surprised to see after all these years and those howler monkeys sitting on their thumbs. Something good coming from it!

Yes the IP now rests somewhere that doesn't hires howler monkeys. At least this means the game might actually be made. Hell by now a movie could be made about how this all could happen!

Oh, it'll be successful, alright. There'll be a lot of people who will buy this game.

But will it be good? Different question.

It's been over a decade, it WILL fail. They hype it has to live up to is extremely unreasonable. My final sentece shall be as such. Good bye Gearbox, I was hoping for another Borderlands but now that you will be going under, I guess Borderlands 2 will never exsist.
It doesn't matter if it lives up to the hype. Hype gets copies sold, that's all that matters.
I just don't want Gearbox's reputation destroied.
Most people fully realize 3Drealms did the bulk of the work. Even if it's awful, and I doubt it will be, I can't imagine many will blame Gearbox. If anything people will be thankful Gearbox finally got the damn thing out.
Well Gearbox's name will be on the box, and while the industry may know the story if they release a bad, and poor selling game it will hurt their image. Sort of like "I'm not buying another Bethesda game since New Vegas was so bad" or "I'm not getting Deus Ex because Final Fantasy XIII was really bad".

Also low sales are low sales. No matter whose fault it was.

I think it will do OK, and unless it is a really good game it will sell well, but not set the world on fire.
