I torrent but only Hentai games, but only because they don't come to the states or I don't want others to know that I (a girl) like hentai.
Take pride in your hobbies! I don't hide the fact that I like hentai (Or that I torrent it). And if you dare use a variation of "Yeah, but it's different for girls" I *will* e-slap you.

Of corse i dont torrent. But if i did it would be to check out music BEFORE i buy it.If its good stuff i would buy it if not i would just delete it. Thats why if I did torrent stuff I would have no problem with me doing so.

I have torrented. Twice. Once for an ISO of Kingdom Hearts, just to see how it would run on a PS2 emulator, and another for BIOS for the emulator to run properly.

The way I justify this stuff to myself is that I already own a copy of Kingdom Hearts, even if I don't own a PS2 (it all happened in an odd turn of events where I bought the games I wanted before actually buying a platform to play them on).

If it's torrenting something that I don't already own, however, I am against it.

I'll admit to using torrents, but for specific reasons. I've had worse luck with PC games I've purchased legally than the ones I've downloaded. I personally feel justified to download Black and White 2 and Hitman Blood Money. I purchased both games legally, had technical problems and was blatantly ignored or dismissed by tech support, and since my legal copies don't work, I don't see a problem with downloading a free copy that actually runs.

I torrent things. PSX Games, music, no movies though, I guess I already own enough. Sometimes, I'll torrent a game, if it doesn't have a demo to see how it runs on my comp. And a couple I haven't gotten around to erasing....

*sirens*

But I think I put enough money in their pockets, time for a kickback.

Indeed I do. Mainly for TV shows that aren't out in the UK yet :D

(I knew piracy would crop up in this thread :p)

I torrent everything EA does. I even torrent their press releases. BECAUSE I CAN EA, BECAUSE I CAN.

In truth, I mostly torrent music. The best games are multiplayer so torrent just doesn't cut it. The only single player games I buy are Bioware games, and I despise EA for buying them. Mass Effect has had one patch on the PC even though it's buggy as hell. Awesome.

I torrent music, but never games. I find games are too much of hassle to download and crack, plus I'm primarily a console gamer anyway.

I would not know about 90% of the bands I listen to and purchase albums for without torrenting. It's also helpful when an album is only available in a foreign country.

One thing I think all non-torrenters should do just for the sheer fun of it is torrent Metallica's new album. I don't like their music but knowing I made a difference would make me oh so happy inside.

No, I don't use torrents because I view copyright violations as wrong, and will have no part of them
See, I knew there was a reason for my man-crush besides that hot storm-trooper chick beside you.

If you are a professional musician, you earn your money from your intellectual property - you create it, and people who enjoy it pay you for your time, effort, and (hopefully) genius by buying your CDs and attending your shows. If people take your intellectual property without paying by stealing your albums and pirated versions of your concerts, you make no money; thus you have no reason to be a professional musician. Eventually you grow up and get a real job, leaving your fans to wonder why you stopped recording when you were so great.

The people in the business of financing, creating and selling music or games or movies do so because they expect to see a profit. If the customers instead steal the music, games, or movies, they make no profit; therefore they have no reason to continue financing, creating and selling music or games or movies. Therefore that great new band remains at their local bars and clubs until they give up and take jobs selling credit card insurance. Games devolve to a series of "safe bets", sequels or marketing gimmicks like movie tie-ins. Movies devolve to the lowest common denominator. If you still pirate music or games or movies you are directly responsible for Britney Speers, the Backstreet Boys, Wall-E the game, The Sims 18, and Meet The Spartans, not to mention the excess of credit card insurance salesmen. If there is less money in the business of financing, creating and selling musicians or games or movies, there is less money to hire the best. The guy that ran the porno theater does the editing in that new movie, whilst the girl at the top of the class does Amway promotional material because that's where the money is. Instead of Peter Jackson, we get Uwe Boll. Because you steal movies.

To answer the OP's question, no, I do not "torrent" any more than I steal other things or cheat on my taxes. If not being a thief is "being all high and mighty", then so be it. I choose not to debate levels of theft.

In Greece torrenting is legal as long as you don't sell for money what you downloaded but just keep it for personal use so when i lived there i used to torrent all sorts of things, now though i only torrent anime fansubs, manga fanslations (fan-translations) and undub patches for english-dubbed (originally in japanese language) games i actually buy.

I spend tons of money for figures and merchandise of what i DL anyways so my conscience is clear as far as supporting what makes what i torrent goes.

Sorry if this has been posted and I missed it but I am not wading through these posts again. I am still curious as to what this pun that was most definitely intended is.

I am unaware of any popular expression that begins with "do you" and ends with a word that sounds similar to "torrent".

I download with intention to buy. I have no notions that I'm somehow justified because of that, it's still illegal and I'd still be liable for whatever sentence is appropriate.

But aside from that, yeah, I use torrents to further that goal. Generally speaking it's more reliable than basic p2p software and faster than finding individual songs. Plus there's a certainty of quality - though a shit quality torrent results in a shit quality throughout.

In terms of viruses etc, it's only as risky as standard file-sharing networks, only it's generally easier to get what you want virus-free. Caution and common sense usually works in all cases to stay clean.
