Matt Smith is a great Doctor, who's actually showing some learning curve towards things (lying to old Amy to save young Amy, dropping Amy and Rory off etc) rather than just continue on doing the same things.

Sure Tennant was good, but he's just an actor who embodied a character. There will be others, better ones probably, and Matt Smith is sure nearly there. With two seasons under his belt and a third coming next year he'll be stuck in peopls's minds like Tennant was.

I do have to say that I like Chris Ecclestone's Doctor more so though, mainly because it was a dark season before it started to get all light and childish in certain places with Tennant.

the 11th doctor is my first.

And he can have my babies. (?)

From what I can tell, this is a rather common feeling people get after becoming whovians.

I'm stuck on the notion that David Tennant is simply a better actor than Matt Smith. While there is the obvious "Writers v. Actors" blame-game at play here, I can't help but feel that Matt Smith oscillates between 'serious Doctor' and 'spaz Doctor' with all the grace of a cement truck.
I do like the overarching narrative that seems to building this season, with it's decreasingly subtle 'the Doctor is a Monster' message. Unfortunately, this is being done at the expense of cannon character traits being ejected e.g. pacifism and restraint. I still cannot accept the Doctor, any Doctor, endorsing genocide. (N.B. The Daleks don't count.)
Ultimately, we all have to struggle with our own 'MY first Doctor' complexes. Where we come down on individual Doctors can only be assessed once their time has past.

I love Matt Smith as the doctor, I think he fits the role better than David Tennant.

But the thing I hate about Dr. Who, is that it's no longer a Sci-fi show... That's what Dr. Who does best! ITS WHAT ITS BASED AROUND, SCI-FI!

It's freaking beyond me why the writers seem to think it's fine to take some shitty horror movies, and copy them. Only make them a lot shitter. Dr. Who shouldn't be a fucking horror show, it's terrible to even consider that. Make it Sci-fi with some horror moments. Not Horror with some sci-fi moments.

Matt Smith is unlucky to have landed the part of the doctor with this shitty writing. I wish the old writer didn't quit....

This thread was done about a day or two ago.

Also no, I dislike him.

What?
You asked and I answered.

My response doesn't have any kind of aggression to yours.

Christopher Eccleston was a dark, serious doctor. David Tennant was a wacky, eccentric doctor. Matt Smith balances the line in between. He is both wacky for moments of comic relief, but also has that heart of callousness when he is unable to shy away from what must be done. He is able to make a joke about a situation and speak with all sincerity, and then be able to make a tough decision with a second thought. Case in point; The Girl Who Waited. The fact he was able to so coldly shut the door on future Amy was shocking to both the character Rory and the audience, but it was something that had to be done. I know Tenant probably had his moments too, but from what i see of Smith he seems to balance comic and dark, creating a happy medium.

I prefer Matt Smith to David Tennant, and David Tennant was awesome but I prefer the more whimsical, eccentric Doctors ala Tom Baker.

I think that the story arcs should go back to the old style of having a few mini series style arcs in a season, or a tighter overarching arc rather than the current style of having individual episodes with a loose connection to the main story if at all. I did like the subtle references in the first new season with the bad wolf bit, but still prefer the older style.

Eh, I don't like comparing Doctors, so I won't comment on the Tennant-Smith thing. But I like Smith, he's the oddest mix of gleefully childish and scary as hell when he's angry.

In terms of the writing, I'd have to say that both parts of the series had severe low points. Moffat's got some issues with story structure that pop up now and then, but I personally think Davies was a pretty poor writer most of the time, with some moments of excellence. For every episode like Midnight there were plenty of moments where Davies' hammy dialogue, random endings, poorly placed political and social commentary, and overuse of Rose Tyler (who was fine for awhile but just grew dull) ruined it.

I like Matt Smith he seems more like an old Doctor, he could stand proudly amongst Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, William Hartnell, Peter Davidson, Patrick Troughton and Worzel Gummidge as they all worship at the temple of Tom Baker.

The actor is fine, the certifiable morons writing the series are not.
After the likes of Love and Monsters, Fear Her, pretty much one-third of the first season and every series finale since the first one, you really can't say that with a straight face.

Asking a show that had the Last Of the Time Lords' "Tinkerbell Jesus" to be pure scifi is laughable.

Sorry, but technobabble does not a good scifi make. I rather prefer your "sh*tty horror" over your scifi so soft it may as well be replaced with "magic" anyday.

Not to mention the simple fact that the best Doctor Who episodes have been very horror based, since the show began in 1963.

Seriously people, the thread is called "Do you like Matt Smith as the Doctor?" not "Let me tell you how much I hate Steven Moffat and want to eat his babies ARARRRARRARRGH!"

David was just bad at the end. And not that great at the beginning. Matt Smith beats him so hard it hurts.

Not as good as tennant, but hes starting to grow on me. Alot of his episodes arent that great, but him as the doctor is really good. of course, in my opinion, Doctor Who at it's worst is still better than 75% of whats on tv nowadays

Yess! I think he's brilliant! I mean he has a funny (yet still hot) face and he's a tad...lets say childish, but he adds something more to the role. Chris Eccleston was just...merrrh. Didn't do anything with the role. David Tenant was angsty, angry, funny and sexy. Perfect. He was fantastic as the Doctor but he left at the right time, before the angst got boring...but i digress:3 yess, i like matt smith, yes, i fancy him bigtime. But he's also an amazing actor. :)

David Tennant has a lot of energy and charisma. You can really tell he had fun being the Doctor. Matt Smith, however, has a different kind of smooth, rather than energetic charm. They're different flavors of nerd cool, both of them.

Personally I prefer Matt Smith, though. He is my Doctor after all.

David was a great doctor and thats why matt and who plays the doctor next will be judged against him. But Matt seems to have this twitch to him, the light of madness, and a dash of something magical when he plays the doctor that makes me think his better suited to the roll

I'll put it to you this way:

I like the latest incarnation of the doctor.

I don't like the latest incarnation of this thread. Just because something's about doctor who doesn't mean it has to regenerate.
