...he didnt shapeshift...he inhabited a human form, which he has done before as the master from "the Five Doctors" has inhabited that body(human i think) and they offer him a new set of regenerations, plus every doctor is fundementally different so that one could have been half human, one incarnation is alergic to asprin, another to a particular gas...hence the stick of celery (its turns purple if the gas is around and is the antidote to)

Wikipedia is a good place for info :)

Grrrrr... No.... Calm, calm, calm. It's pseudo-canon. The Master was never a shapeshifter and the Doctor is NOT half human.

Warning to General Mao Chu: There are some VERY rabid Who fans out there. Be wary. :)
yes they might be rabid but the eighth doctor was McGann and that was a canon show

*mutters* They've changed canon a lot of time through the series, but the Eye of Rassilon and the Master becoming a snake and the laser screwdriver were as much canon as Jar Jar is to Star Wars.

We just don't talk about it. ;)

Unless Timelords can catch Retcon disease, like comics can.

The first episode of Who I witnessed was the regeneration of John Pertwee into Tom Baker.

Tom will always be the best doctor in my book for his mad intellectual enthusiasm. Although his first episode was somewhat cheesey (The name evades me but it was about a murderous robot) the episodes following i.e. the sontarin experimment, the ark in space, and esp. the genisis of the daleks were brilliant.

To be honest you can't go wrong wherever you start because of the drastic style changes, but I would reccommend beginning with one of the first episodes of a well respected doctor like John Pertwee, Tom Baker, or Peter Davidson.

There's also a number of non-canon roles like the three movies, Peter Cushing and Paul Mcgann (Eighth Doctor),
nope the McGann doctor is canon, hence why David is the 10th doctor

sadly a large chun of the old episodes are lost, the masters were destroyed

Duly noted. I'm also an anime/manga fan so I'm acquainted with rabid fans and bizarre retcons.

I currently have this theme remix stuck in my head. Check it out.

I can't wait to check it all out. Plus, with so much material, I doubt I'll get bored of it.

SNIP

I have over 100 books, 10 audio discs, toys and the like and I'm only a novice collector.

You're talking roughly 45 YEARS worth of material.

Only my queen has seen all the shows though; I am but her humble servant. ;)

As for spoilers...no-one knows as of yet. Don't think there's any spoilers here to anything that's not over ten years old. Just guesses.

Well, you name the device and there's a version of it in the shape of a TARDIS. Doctor Who sleeps with all major forms of media, including video games. I would say you should start wherever you want in regards to the series: just memorise the names of major badguys (Daleks, Cybermen and the Master to name a few) and you won't miss too much.

Is it sad that I know it's numismaton gas off the top of my head? Yeah, it probably is.

Blink is, without doubt, one of the best Dr. Who episodes ever made. Absolutely terrifying, wildly creative. It's a must-see, for sure.

Colin Baker wasn't that great a doctor, but he had a few good episodes. The same cannot be said for Sylvester McCoy, however, who not only was a shite Doc, but he had crap assistants and lousy stories, too. I mean, really, did anyone NOT want to shove Ace out an airlock?

Well, David Tennant is doing a bit of Hamlet so after this series ends Doctor Who will be on haitus. They'll do a couple of specials, but I don't think there is going to be a 2009 series. By the way, I'm almost certain that David Tennant will continue as the Doctor for a while now.

Is anyone else trying to remember the "Mister Cooper Foundation", the company that made the Sub-Wave network? I'm pretty sure that's going to crop up later.

I've been inside the TARDIS set, and it is surprisingly roomy. They even have a little hammer on a chain.

the TARDIS doesn't have an airlock :p

that's the enterprise and Wesley you're thinking of. funnily enough Wil Wheaton wore a "throw Wesley out the airlock" button to a star trek convention and no one figured out it was him wearing it, they all laughed at his button tho

personally for me my fav doctors go like this

Tom Baker
David Tennant (will pass Tom if he keeps going)
John Pewtree
Peter Davidson

never really saw any of the ones with William Hartnell of Patrick Troughton

and for the Doctor Who geeks, the TARDIS 4 por usb hub (same item just different country sites, sorry couldn't find an Aussie site)

No, I was simply making a joke. I am perfectly aware that the TARDIS doesn't have an airlock, as I am aware that it has two control rooms (though they had to stop using the second one because the wood panels got wet and warped whilst they were in storage), a cloister bell, a swimming pool, and a Zero room that was jettisoned in order to give the TARDIS enough thrust to escape Event One, also known as the Big Bang.
