Now, let me qualify that statement by saying that it's not that people don't like music, it's just that the music they post is usually video game OST's and jay-pop, and other things related to nerd and video game culture.
So to sum it up?

"People on these forums like music I don't like and therefore they have bad taste and don't appreciate good music for people like me with good taste."

Yeah, grow up buddy. Opinions are subjective.
Whoa, how did you get so hostile offa that? It wasn't effin shouting about how bad those things are, just a notice of a lack of much else. If someone making note of omething riles you like that, maybe you should be less defensive, or you know grow up.
I don't *think* what he said was meant to be mean. He was stating that when people DO make music threads, that's usually what happens to them. People accuse others of having terrible taste in music because it doesn't fit their own, and it just goes nowhere. I'm sure people here like plenty of music.. it's just not the greatest place to talk about that here.

Despite just registering tonight, I've been lurking these forums for a while, and I've noticed something. There seems to be an immense lack of appreciation for music on the escapist.

Now, let me qualify that statement by saying that it's not that people don't like music, it's just that the music they post is usually video game OST's and jay-pop, and other things related to nerd and video game culture.

Why is it you escapees don't follow music like you follow video games, and to a lesser extent, movies?

It just strikes me as odd that in such modern times, where good music is available at your fingertips, that people here still don't appreciate it like they do the other modern art forms.

EDIT: Also, please feel free to share your music. A few exceptions. No j-pop, game OST's, protomen, or metal (sabbath, maiden, zeppelin, etc). Everything else is welcome.
You might want to check what type of website your on. It would happen this is a website for video game players and video game makers. SO yeaahhh it would happen to be that Video game OST and music relating to the video game culture. Also let see I love nightwish led zeppelin, beatles, and Russel browser is good the composer for Blizzard. List is endless

well the site is primarily for video games, so it makes sense that the majority of things going on here revolve around video games...
True, yet there are numerous daily conversations about comics, movies, anime, cartoons, etc.

There's a thread devoted to great metal.
That seems about the extent of the escapist's musical appreciation.

I'm talking about other genres besides metal. Punk, rap, hardcore, alternative, hardcore, house, techno, hip-hop, post-rock. There are so many that I never see discussed on the escapist.
Maybe because, and this is a shocker, they aren't as popular with the people who browse this site?

I think age is a huge factor, though my sister recently went to a Rilo Kiley concert and was surprised to find it was mostly kids in the audience. I'd say there is as much a lack of interest in/understanding of organic, instrument-based music on here as anywhere else in that general age group (teens-early 20's). There's a very nice Escapist who created a thread about his favorite sax solo. The embedded video was of a guy doing a piss-poor job of pretending to play an elementary-level sax solo over dated techno-lite. This is somewhat emblematic of the Escapist, but I also think you're selling us short.

Also, while raising a flame shield, I will state in no uncertain terms that, regardless of their unintentional contributions in inspiring the creation of the genre, Led Zeppelin is not metal.

Also, I have no idea what your tastes are, so you should check out Tom Waits, the Apples in Stereo and the Mars Volta. Or something. Sorry if those 3 are too similar :)

You claim there is a lack of musical appreciation, yet you forbid any form of metal from being posted. It boggles my mind and paints you as somewhat of a hypocrite.

I listen to many kinds of music, including metal, and I appreciate the artistic merit in all genres of music.

I asked why they weren't popular with members of the escapist. Telling me they aren't popular basically reiterates my points.

Why is it people automatically assume I'm attacking there tastes? I'm just asking a question. There are many movie, video game, and comic die-hards, but hardly any music die-hards. I was just wondering why this is.

A better question would be why do several members of the escapists blindly jump to conclusions? I mean jesus christ.

I realize Zeplin isn't metal, but I just figured it fit with the rest. You know what I mean.

And yeah, I listen to all of those. Sorry :)

Well (generally speaking), they hate anything that's not metal or an anime ost. Rap requires no talent. Anyone who likes pop is braindead.

I mean, I love the Escapist and everything, but this is like my biggest pet peeve about the place. :(
What about people with a fine interest in Classical, Baroque and Romantic period music like myself? Are we part of your pet peeve?

I listen to metal too, it's just discussed too often here. I want to hear some what are some other bands or genres that escapees listen to.

k. Here are some of the greats:

Oh, you don't like any of those? oh, you must have no taste then.

Seriously OP, get off your high horse and please realize that "good music" is different for everybody.

Movies and video games are like brothers in the industries. The way I see it is that movies, video games, and books have had a close and fond relationship of enteraintment, but have difficulties transistion movies into games or games into movie.

I can barely play the guitar and piano so the appreciation I can show for music is kind of lacking.
I'd like to think that I enjoy a large quantity of different musical genres; including death metal and Mozart.

But hey, if I can post my current favorite song again why the fuck wouldn't I?

No, I read it the same way. But I see your point.

OP perhaps should have been more clear if you are correct about his intentions.

Say Anything is a guilty pleasure of mine. Not the most technically impressive, but I will be damned if Max Bemis can't write some damn catchy hooks and lyrics.

Why do you assume that I assume you're attacking our tastes? I'm just pointing out the obvious; if people aren't discussing it very much, then most people don't like/care about those genres.

If that's the case then you should really clarify that in your opening post. Because written as it is only serves to contradict the entire point of this thread.

Regardless, I don't think your argument holds much weight.

There are also various Music-related forums out there, and it makes sense that people might tend to limit their conversations about music a bit, especially if they're already members of those music forums.

I usually assume that people who are using sarcasm tend to be pretty defensive. So maybe you weren't assuming that, but the tone of your post sure looked like it.

Don't take it too hard, you're on the internet! You can make a post about loving puppies a get flamed by cat owners who don't feel they're getting enough attention. Just ignore the idio people who like to get grumpy on the internet and miss the point on purpose.

Also, Jesus saying "Jesus Christ" is quite amusing

Edit: OT: A theory could be that, in The Real Life talking about J-pop, or video game tracks would get you some strange looks and blank stares (Unless you lived in Japan obviously.) so they come here where there is mutual interest. Opposed to The Real World where there are (in my experience) a lot more people who like Classic Rock, or Mainstream music than game tracks.
