Eh, you don't notice it so much if you play TDM. I play domination though, and yeah, it is annoying.

This is why I'm so looking forward to BF3; because I'm so utterly sick of CoD.
Bad Company 2 is out, and fun. Spend time there instead while waiting for BF3. I am, and having all kinds of fun doing it :D

This isn't restricted to COD. All FPS games have players solely focused on their KDR. Plus in those game modes, if your team is focused on killing and doing it well, objectives are much easier to cap. Unless, in your situation, your team was camped in a couple of corners and waiting.

I've gotten used to the people killwhoring, but it's important to remember that every team needs a few slayers. And the whole care package thing, why would you take it? The guy has every right to be pissed (maybe not to scream at your friend). He worked for the package and it was taken. I've had it happen to me, and it's awful. Seeing my rewards go to a thief is aggravating.

Are they having fun? If yes then they are playing it properly.
I find that a difficult argument to accept. The word properly is highly subjective, but I see it as "Playing the mode correctly."

I would have fun in say, CTF, by actually focusing on getting the flag and using strategy. But when 90% of the players in the room just sit by their flags and wait for easy targets, that just seems sad, and defeats the purpose of the game.
Videogames are toys. The purpose of toys is entertainment, to have fun. Thus, whatever makes the game fun for them is the correct way to play.
That's like saying I should be allowed to spear tackle people in soccer because it's just a game.

That's just the way games are going now, people think that getting kills is more important then getting the objective, it's not just cod it happens in oteher games, however it is quite fun to have the enemy team trying it when they're two men down, me and my friend, capture the flag, marathon, we took it in turns so we would pass each other had about 20 flags at end of round 2 =] can be fun when they make kills the priority and they have a smaller team.

I play to whatever he gametype is. I may be hated for for it, by the CoD players, but it is worth it.

First problem: Black Ops
Second problem: Playing an objective map with randoms
Third problem: Playing Black Ops

I only play slayer maps on Reach whenever I play with randoms, because I've learned from enough experiences with retards, that objective maps NEVER EVER EVER go well. I'll be in the enemy's base, killing half their team with the flag, and die from 6 grenades on my face, with my entire team dancing around me killing everything that moves. Do I get support? Indirectly, yes. Do any of them pick up the flag? Maybe one or two other randoms, but no not really.

MW2 has pretty good objective games because people usually realize that winning > killing. I know whenever I play with my friends who are so disgustingly good at MW2, they kill everything that moves, AND get the objective done. People just need to realize that by winning a game fast, you can play ANOTHER game afterwards, get as many kills/points as you would if you just grinded kills, AND keep motivation up.

I always laugh my ass off when the other team has 40+ more kills than my team does, but we win anyways.
"Good job. You can camp a tower with a sniper rifle... too bad this is Territories and your tower only covers one territory :D"

'Properly' is in the eye of the beholder. It's just a problem with multiplayer. Maybe if you could filter playstyle everyone would be happier.

People play however they want to play. Again, eye of the beholder. If they think capture the flag is for killing, then it's 'right' to them.

Good day sir.
With respect, if they think capture the flag is for killing, then they're mistaken. This isn't subject to interpretation; the purpose of Capture the Flag is, unarguably, to capture the flag.

Certainly killing is an integral part of that; you must kill those who try to stop you from taking their flag, you must kill those who try to take your flag; but these kills are all in service to the greater objective.

People play however they want to play, this is true; and if they want to play Deathmatch, then they should play Deathmatch. Otherwise, they are needlessly & pointlessly tainting the experience for others, which is most certainly not the 'right' way to play.
I'd just keep spouting the same line over and over again about how the player makes the game for himself, but to save me time I'll just slink away.

I only play Team Death Match because I hear about stories like this. I know I'd get annoyed if I was playing a different mode and no one was actually playing the way it's supposed to be played.

I think I play TDM properly though. Move carefully, find enemy with sniper rifle, then either A) Fire, pray the shot kills him, and relocate or B) Fire, miss/doesn't kill him, and sigh as I'm gunned down by a machine gun from across the map. The latter seems to happen to me much more than the former.

My mate was playing COD:BLOPS in Demolition, and his team was just focusing on kills, rather than even try to plant the bomb.

At one point, one teammate was lying next to his care package, he just stayed there for like a minute, didn't try to claim it. My friend went and nicked it, at which point the guy in question sent him a voice message, roughly along the lines of " Fuck you, get your own fucking care packages, and stop planting the bomb we're trying to lose this round so we can play again." (I removed about 3/4 of the swearing from that.)

So I ask, does anyone actually play COD these days to enjoy the game? Or is it all just kill-whoring and point farming crybabies now?

Also, feel free to share your own stories of annoying/pathetic players online.
This is part of the reason that I stopped playing CoD. Also, I was tired of all the lag and hacks for MW2 (pc player here).

That's one of the reasons I don't play Multiplayer on Black Ops anymore. Just zombies for me.

Nope. no one does. Comes with the territory in CoD-verse. Thats the way it is now, thats the way its always been and thats the way it shall remain.

Its sort of like having a desire for intellectual stimulation and finding yourself in a preschool.
Our friend here is quite spot on. And fact is that your average Codbloper are quite young males, that have bought the game due to the praise their older brothers and friends gave the first Modern Warfare, and firmly believe that how awesome you are is directly proportionate to your K/D.

I find my self conforming more and more to just coop games these days. Playing with people you know is so much more enjoyable that having to deal with the hostile jungle that is online gaming.

Looking forward to Battlefield 3 tho, hope that won't be ruined for me =(.

As far as I'm concerned, the reason people kill-farm rather than fulfil objectives in COD is because they want bigger NUMBERS than everyone else. It's all about the NUMBERS. Worship my NUMBERS.

(A captcha just popped up: Poem rambec. This scares and confuses me.)

Tip: Never play the most recent CoD game online.

The proportion of asshats is lower on older games (WaW is my favourite anyway, better maps and it's more stripped back), because they'll just play the latest one avaliable.

I find that people on WaW tend to be much more focused on objectives and in general, tend to be better. They know what they want, not just the shineyest game.

This could easily be solved by making the objectives worth a lot more points and experience.
Noone cares about points and experience, it's all about the K/D and demolition is the easiest to go 50-5 or better on.

The only way to play Call of Duty, or any generic online shooter for that matter, is to not play it at all.

Go pick up something else that doesn't require hours of redundant activities and dealing with morons.
