Yeah I find it impossible to play any mode in CoD besides for TDM. Maybe SnD since killing the other team is one way to complete the objective but with one life people camp HARD in that mode.

I actually find more games where people farm kills than go for objectives. In every other FPS I've played that douche who farms kills is supposed to be in the minority. I blame killstreaks.

This could easily be solved by making the objectives worth a lot more points and experience.
Noone cares about points and experience, it's all about the K/D and demolition is the easiest to go 50-5 or better on.
Well of course most CoD players obsess about K/D, but they also care about levelling up. Considering the demolition objective is the equivalent of only 3 kills, it's easier to get the same score (and a nice K/D) just DMing. If it was worth, say, 500 points instead of 150, the actual fight over the objectives would be much more focused, like in every Control Point or Payload TF2 game ever played.

My mate was playing COD:BLOPS in Demolition, and his team was just focusing on kills, rather than even try to plant the bomb.

At one point, one teammate was lying next to his care package, he just stayed there for like a minute, didn't try to claim it. My friend went and nicked it, at which point the guy in question sent him a voice message, roughly along the lines of " Fuck you, get your own fucking care packages, and stop planting the bomb we're trying to lose this round so we can play again." (I removed about 3/4 of the swearing from that.)

So I ask, does anyone actually play COD these days to enjoy the game? Or is it all just kill-whoring and point farming crybabies now?

Also, feel free to share your own stories of annoying/pathetic players online.
Black ops was the biggest waste of money I ever spent.
It's the same game as the previous iterations. It's basically counter-strike dumbed down.
Remember the times when you actually had to switch to your knife to attack rather than having the melee button assigned to it, and being able to stab people at a moment's notice unrealistically.
People only ever care about their K/D ratio and it really is pathetic how into the game people get. They act like they're actually fighting in a real war, it's downright hilarious.

Well in Australia CyberGamer runs several highly competitive ladders on all different levels for CoD games, but that's for the real modes not rubbish like demolition. So yeah there is a lot of hardcore serious players, and sometimes if it is an enjoyable game the winning team can decide a to lose round to keep it going, and it is always some noob who ruins it for everyone, it is never a good player. You sound like you are unfamiliar with the whole CoD mentality.

maybe if you quit playing the console versions and play the PC versions you wouldn't have that problem. private serves and custom mods ftw.

I try to accomplish objectives when playing on games types with objectives, but mostly I just play team death match so I don't really see this problem too often.

If you want serious FPS, go for ArmA. Or Battlefield-servers with good admins.

Also, I'm waiting for an FPS that finally properly incentivises survival above murder.
Operation Flashpoint did it, but to me it wasn't much fun to play.

Gimme some Bulletstorm and murder sprees over sneaking around in a bush any day :D

The proportion of asshats is lower on older games (WaW is my favourite anyway, better maps and it's more stripped back), because they'll just play the latest one avaliable.
Funny you mention it, I was playing MW2 recently and it was really fun, only came across one OMA Noob Tuber in my whole might.

Are they having fun? If yes then they are playing it properly.
Yeah... no. To me playing a multiplayer game mode "properly" means playing how the developers intended. So if they go to the trouble of sticking in a flag site or a bomb site or whatever the hell the maguffin that COD Blops objective based modes revolve around then to play properly means they intended to have you go after that maguffin.

Of course if it's more fun to play the game in ways the developer did not intend, i.e. playing an objective based game as death match, then that's the developers' fault.

While the idea of playing "properly" might seem rather childish and paradoxical, you have to remember that playing a video game or any sort of game for that matter is different to pretending to be a pirate on a couch-ship floating over a lava-carpet floor.

Imagine if I played a game of chess with you and all I did was try and move my pieces into the shape of penis. That may be more fun for me if I was an idiot but it sure as hell is not the way to play chess.

Does playing Leapfrog with your friend during online multiplayer count as properly playing it?
