As long as you are not forced the answer is no. In fact women in porn make far more money than male actors on average. It is also quite sexist to act like only men like porn.
no, really, only men like porn.
Not (completely) true! Most porn is catered towards the hetero male, true BUT! (also as a lesbian anyone who thinks that the mainstream girl on girl titles do anything for us is off their rockers. Seeing high as a kite straight chicks make out is as titillating as watching paint dry.)

I myself have an embarrasingly large collection of Victorian era porn. It's amazing and weird and awesome. Just pics, natch, since the video wasn't around then.

And the alternative, indy porn industry does offer things that interest a lot of people, not just men.

Of course, when people think of porn they think of Ass Nurses 9, they don't think about whacky ancient stuff, or strange off the beat stuff, so I'll just go back into my corner and waggle my 'more positive portrayal porn!' flag to myself.

I wouldn't necessarily say pornography takes advantage of women if they are fully consenting adults (although it can, in certain circumstances, be considered that way).

I would say it gives quite a few guys false (or at least exceedingly high) expectations and standards for what a "real" woman should be like, which then causes many women to feel like they aren't normal or attractive if they aren't up to that expected standard.

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: The sex industry is based around demeaning women. Despite the ridiculous rumours, people do not get into the sex industry because they like to bang, they get into it because they need money fast, and they don't have qualifications.
wrong, wrong, wrong

i could go find you a TON of porn stars that got into porn cause "they liked to fuck" and that's their own words

prime example is Sasha Grey, who is honestly one of the smartest porn stars out there today and frankly you should listen to a few of her interviews that she's done where they tried to trap her in the "you were suckered into porn" argument and she verbally ***** slaps them

Anyone who really wants to argue on the side of porn, look at gonzo porn, and tell me that after that you feel that porn empowers women.
really and how does the gonzo industry NOT empower them? the thing is most of them are doing that because they WANT to do it. if a woman on the set says "stop no more" they stop, there is an actual movie where they are having rough sex and the girl calls it quits in the middle of the scene, they left it in the movie to show they aren't being mean to them

the thing is you can say "oh they're exploiting those women" but the truth of the matter is that you don't like they type of sex they are having so you object to it. if you were against BDSM i'm sure you'd say that kink.com is exploiting women, however they aren't cause there's a ton of women and men for that matter that enjoy being tied up and whipped and beat and ordered to do many things.

so no porn doesn't exploit women in the least, it's one of the few industries where women earn a TON more money then the men do. a woman can make a couple thousand dollars for a scene, a guy makes a couple hundred at the most, gay men make a lot more

some directors like kahn Tusion do abuse the girls. and the girls gone wiled videos, where girls are shitfaced drunk. unable to make a clear headed decision. is uncool
Girls gone wild pisses me off so much. The advertisements for it are so fucking long and annoying.

Still, they sign a legal contract before being in the video, so while it is exploitation it is legal.
The thing with Girls Gone Wild is... they don't crash parties and bars and just film drunk woman, that would be exploitation. Girls Gone Wild actually HOSTS events, and people have to sign wavers and get into lines and shit to go. Case and point, regardless of what state of mind those women are in while they're at the party, they went through some measures to get there. It's not like its surprise your boobs are on video, they know what they're getting into before they go to the party.

At least that's how they do it now. Maybe when they started Girls Gone Wild they went obtained their footage by sketchier means.

However, the occasional mens excess in being patrons of porn in any shape or form is rather demeaning to the men in question.

Since one can conceivably cheat on one woman with another, I consider porn essentially cheating on the given woman with whatever medium the porn is; video, paper, thought, etc.

There are no yellow brick roads to enter the porn industry.
Most people enter it because the shit hit the fan and that was the only way to make money.
Find me the porn star who graduates from an Ivy league school and turns down a well paying job in an office to have sex with am stranger in front of a camera so sad virgins (like me) can watch. And to make it more humiliating if they wants to make a career out of it they have to have regular AIDS test with the results made public online.
The few major porn stars who do get paid well are a minority in a larger group of poorly paid actors just trying to make a living.
For every Sasha Grey and Ron Jeremy there is a hundred no name men and women who will eventually leave the industry in disgust.
And even the megastars (especially women) have to live in some fear as crazed fans have attacked and raped these stars in the past.
So let's all be honest if this was such a great career would you want your child to go into it or your parents see you enter it?
Silence can be deafening.

Are you saying that being in a good paying job where all you have to do is have sex in very erotic ways is a Bad thing? Lots of people would kill for that kind of job :p

It's always the choice of the people involved in pornography to do what they do, there's no "taking advantage of innocent women".

The woman chooses to be in it, saying it takes advantage of women would not make much sense.

Some people (women and some men) see it as sexist and morally degrading to our society, but when you look at the long history of porn, it was a celebration of the human body and symbols of fertility in societies.

I have no problem with porn if any one chooses to take part in it, so long as they're of age. Women should know by now what they're getting into, and should be smart enough to get out of a situation that sounds weird or feels wrong to them. Yes, women have been taken advantage of in some cases, but not all of them.

Depends on the porn I suppose.

Lets not forget it's more or less the industry standard that women usually double a man's pay in the business. Jenna Jameson is fucking rich.
