This isn't going to give your PTSD.
Read up on the latest articles about the condition and it'll become apparent the debilitating effect will not occur if you realise it was a not real.
See there has been a LOT of study into PTSD from just how many Coalition troops are exposed to ambushes and IED attacks, expensive research has shown that PTSD sets in during the aftermath of a traumatic event as the victim's mind tries to process all the memories, not during the actual event itself.
In effect, the mind overcompensates and gives the memories Super labels them and it becomes debilitating as they are constantly reminded and practically relive the horrors of an ambush ever time a car back fires or a door slams or anything reminds them of the event.
If during this aftermath period as the brain is sorting the memories it is interrupted, it has been found PTSD can bee significantly reduced and those who experienced the events can approach their memories far more rationally and in control. This process can be interrupted with certain techniques and exercises mostly to do with distracting the brain from doing it's job.
I suspect the same thing would happen here, if in the aftermath they learned it was all a cruel joke then the mind would not label as "EXTREME DANGER, Don't ever forget this Memory!" as the apparent reality of the situation has completely changed.
